...so you're telling me this guy gets paid more than i do to walk down a sidewalk and just say whatever pops into his head about the product that he's holding in his hands? One of the worst reviews of a product I've seen...i have this camera and it's great.
I've used the hv30 against the more expensive "pro" cameras and unless you're filming on a Red cam, no one will notice the difference in quality. If you have $1500-$2000 get an hv30 and a a few lenses and a steadicam. It's a much better deal deal than a multi thousand dollar cam.
I don't quite understand how "production with more than one person" equates to needing a more expensive camera. So, if there's 2 people, I need a $1500 camera, 5 people, a $5000 camera? Just like the rest of USA Today, this guy's review is garbage on a 5th grade reading level.
For my portable video class I've been shooting with a canon xl1s and it's great but the quality of the HV30 > it and it's less complicated to work with and a hell of a lot more portable.
if you can't figure out why 'production w/more then 1 person equates to a more expensive camera', I'd suggest looking at the videos by NewWaveG and it should be somewhat obvious...especially if you look at the vids for putting together a production video cam.
First off the HV20 is a far better camcorder than a "video for the web". It can be used for more than one person in a production. The HV30 films at 24p, 30p, and 60i at 1080. I mean this gives a micro-budget film maker near quality of a 2 grand camcorder for only 600 bucks. This is a no brainer here, you obviously need to do more research before you post your "reviews".
I'm agree with you, this is a great HD camera, i have my hv30 since 2 weeks, the video quality it's excellent, i make my tv show with HER, hehe and it looks like a very professional camera. This is a false review....
its not sh*tty, but if you compare it to some other high end cameras...there is room for inprovements...and thats because higher end cameras will use 3 chips instead of 1 (and ofter larger chips sizes), and use more manual controls better lenses...but for the price this is a really good camera. 1080/24p, external mic jack, for under 800 bucks.... not bad at all.
The HV30 uses a primary color filter on a CMOS sensor, instead of 3 CCD, one for each primary color. Unless you're an expert or doing side-by-side comparison, most people won't notice the difference, in fact, the CMOS is better in some ways because there's no color bleed.
doesnt look like that guy is filming with a good quality camcorder. But i just got the vixia hv30 and im charging it. hopefully I can figure out how to use it.
One more thing. If you decide to buy a wide angle lens for it, try to get one which does not cause vignetting. I bought one which looked fine when viewing through LCD screen, but as soon as I put the footage onto a monitor, the vignetting was HIGHLY noticeable.
I use it. Definitely recommend adding an external mic. as this will improve sound quality and pickup. Also, remember, recording to tape means you can keep all your original footage backups, even if something happens to your hard drive, you still have the original tape.
I don't agree with this guy at all. Why would you need a professional camera too shoot multiple people? I laughed out loud at that. :P And the built in microphone is more than enough for web video, people record web videos with their crappy webcams even. I own this camera and the WD-H43 wideangle lens and DM-50 mic to go with it.
great job! I'm getting this camera next month, i've already both a twoneil 35mm adapter and nokon f1.8 lens and will be getting a raynox 6600 next! then a mic, go meee!
Haha, I bought it last Friday when I saw a guy on the Twoneil site was selling his 50mm lens and 1 month old Twoneil for only $200 total as he has trading up to a different camera - lucky me, I was the first to see his post! lol! Sorry dude1!!

Hey! Thank you for your videos!!!
Maybe you can help me on this question:
If I record in 25p and then render (?) with 1920x1080 resolution, is my movie 1080p?
Nobody could answer me this question...so I hope you know this :-)
Ciao!
