Hey people I need help deciding whether or not to buy this game because of the battle system. I am a BIG fan of the Star Ocean battle system where you can literally run up to the enemy and attack. Can somebody please describe the battle system in Valkyrie Profile 2? Will I like it? I've seen gameplay where your party is like in a straight line following each other in combat or something like that. Somebody please answer my question!!!!!
@xion8900 I have never played Star Ocean so I have no idea will you like it. But it goes something like this: You see an enemy on the map, you engage in battle by slashing it with sword. You start off with 100 action points, which are being used when you move or attack. They replenish by walking around the bettlefield. The concept of the battle is semi-turn based, you control all your characters and you can divide them in groups. It's an amazing game. Hope that helps

Got this game today, the plot is boring, the duel personality thing throws of the relationship the gamer has with the character, the side-scrolling is absolute bullshit. The art is nice, but big deal, since you cant explore it except for side scrolling. The battle system takes no long thought out skill like final fantasy. They start you off with dungeons and cutscenes for the first 2 hours. Think ff12 but worse.

@StatuesBleedingGreen There is nothing worse than being set up and than let down. The introduction gives you a great feeling, with beautiful scenery and nice music, like a Hayao Miyazaki movie. Then they screw you over with a horrible game. Cute character too, except for the emotionless bossy silmerna or whatever her fucking name is who talks 3/4 of the girls dialogue. I'm so pissed I spent $40 on this game new.

Argh. I played a little of VP1, but the 2Dness and the dungeon-puzzle aspect of it really didn't sit too well with me. I know there's a story I want to find out about, and this intro reinforces that., and I want to finish VP1 before going into VP2, but the whole series... is just hard for me to get into.
There's a lot of jRPG's that look really interesting, on paper, but when I go and play them I just fail to get into them. VP, the Nippon Ichi games, the Devil Summoner brands, etc.
I actually VP very much, but in your case, you should just read up on VP for the story. The second one is like the first one in a lot of aspects. If you have to play it, you'll only get the real story in hard mode i think, which means you'll have to deal with all that stuff you don't like.

There goes another scrub thinking since is develop by square enix it most be like final fantasy. Square enix is a merged company from sqauresoft and enix. Square soft makes makes the final fantasy and traditional like rpg games if it says developed by square enix then it is made by the final fantasy team. If it say's develop by tri-ace then it is made by the team who does the star ocean series. This game was very good and challeging you must have not been that good then if you are complaning.

i liked both voice acting but yeah i think these one is way better.you should take into account that the first VP was one of the few RPG with voice acting so it deserves some credit.
agreed on the animation part, though when you say western i take it you are referring to english voice acting, the latin acting of some animes are as good as the original.and i will have to agree about voice acting in games too xD japanese put a lot of enthusiasm on it and besides they include some english words to give more emphasize(like in the shingis or ougis in VP or the special attacks in saint seiya or the name of the cards in sakura card captor)
but when i mean i like the voice acting in this game i mean its better than in other games.the english voice acting of kingdom hearts was dreadful.nice quotes, but dreadful. throughout the voiced final fantasies none caught my attention. IMO this games has the best western voices.
Did you know that the Japanese fans of Kingdom Hearts prefer the English voices to the Japanese ones?
With the exception of Kairi, I think all the voices were actually well done, and I'm a real picky person. I can't imagine any other voice for Sora other than Haley Joel Osment.

This game is 100 years before Valkyrie profile 1. I think.. Therefor they "should not" be in it. But there is several of them, Like Lezard and Arngrim.
Not to mention that lots of games have done it like this. First they make a good game about something. Then they always have to make games about how it began = What happened some years before. and also those games that is about what happened after the game = some years later

the voice acting is... meh at first, but i think eventually it's gets really good. sort of had to get into the character better i think. the game is wonderful though. still haven't beat it! i've had it for almost 2 years!

i just ordered this, but i've never played the original (too expensive used) or the Lenneth remake (don't have a psp), but i like square games and i wanted to get this while it was still cheap. i hope its good, the DS game looks sick

i liked both voice acting but yeah i think these one is way better.you should take into account that the first VP was one of the few RPG with voice acting so it deserves some credit.

agreed on the animation part, though when you say western i take it you are referring to english voice acting, the latin acting of some animes are as good as the original.and i will have to agree about voice acting in games too xD japanese put a lot of enthusiasm on it and besides they include some english words to give more emphasize(like in the shingis or ougis in VP or the special attacks in saint seiya or the name of the cards in sakura card captor)

but when i mean i like the voice acting in this game i mean its better than in other games.the english voice acting of kingdom hearts was dreadful.nice quotes, but dreadful. throughout the voiced final fantasies none caught my attention. IMO this games has the best western voices.

Did you know that the Japanese fans of Kingdom Hearts prefer the English voices to the Japanese ones?
With the exception of Kairi, I think all the voices were actually well done, and I'm a real picky person. I can't imagine any other voice for Sora other than Haley Joel Osment.

This probably isn't the question to be asking here. Go search for it on wikipedia at the very least. They are mythological figures in Norse mythology. They are maidens who ride horses though the heavens and often preside over battles, wherein they will take the slain heros to Valhalla. While they are basically benevolent beings, they also seem to have a real cold and fierce demeanor. As we see in Hrist. They are Odin's and Freya's "servents".

This game is 100 years before Valkyrie profile 1. I think.. Therefor they "should not" be in it. But there is several of them, Like Lezard and Arngrim.
