Thanks for this, I feel more confident now about transitioning from imovie to fce. I presently use only my ipod and a fuji stills camera. I want to upgrade to a video camera but get confused about all the features. Can you recommend a cheap camcorder with an ok zoom, enough space etc. Cheers, Carol
Do you know the difference between express and final cut pro specifically? Im looking to get a macbook and express in the next week or so. I need more than Movie Maker or iMovie etc. My school uses final cut pro but i dont start for 3 weeks so i havent used it yet. And its like 900$ lol so i wont have it anytime soon. Send me a message or somethin. Thanks
@Holthane Final Cut Express has the professional features cut out of it, but if your going to buy Express just wait on pick up Final Cut Pro X off of the Mac App store, it's $299 and worth it, it's the direction Apple is taking with their video editing suite. This video is a few years old and things have changed since then. I hope this helps.
Was about to return Final Cut Express 4 after checking out tutorials on Lynda.com. Seemed super complicated as compared to iMovie. But after watching your youtube video I'm going to keep it. You brought up some really good examples of why migrating to FCE4 would be better than sticking to iMovie 'templates'. Thanks for helping me make the right choice.
@Stratzman09 I'm glad I could help! Now with Final Cut Pro X just released, Final Cut Express 4 is no longer offered from Apple. I still think it's a great program to learn how to edit video! Good Luck
@kingsofminecraft1 This video is about 3 years old, I now shoot with a 1080p camera. The main reason to buy this program was to learn how to edit with Final Cut and at the time this was in my budget.
great review! you just convinced me to get this software. i just got my macbook pro recently. i have picked up the 13" Macbook pro with 2.7ghz dual core i7 but i' not sure if this computer of mine will handle the FINAL CUT 4 express. you mentioned in this video that you use this software on your Macbook pro. may i ask which macbook pro you have? thanks for your answer in advanced!
@popitn2nd Thanks, I use this with a Macbook Pro from 2007 it's a 2.2 ghz core 2 duo, your 13 inch Macbook Pro will handle Final Cut Express perfectly! You should have no problems
it's said that FCE 4.0 doesn't come with soundtrack? what if i always put soundtrack in my imovie editing and export it to FCE, does it matter? thanks, i'm deciding whether to get 3.5 or 4.0. Another concern is that i'm using snow leopard, don't know if 3.5 is acceptable for that system version?
@Lewis3947 Yes, you can install it on multiple machines. I'm not sure if you can run multiple instances of it on the same home network, because with Logic Pro you can only have one instances running at a time on a network. Hope this help! Thanks for viewing!
i want to made a guitar cover video, having 4 videos playing at once in screen. (4 individual video happening at once). what programs would you recommend... iMovie? or final cut studio would be just a waste of money?
wait. is it even possible to edit four videos in one screen? (im starting to use iMovie...)
hey u mentioned HD is there an final cut HD? cause i think ima buy final cut express 4 but its like everytime sumting is kool, sumting new comes out and its better
i have been using final cut pro at school, its really good, and i have just been using sony vegas on my pc, but i wanted something for my mac, so my question is what are the exact differences between FCP at FCE and i do some hardcore editing sometimes
@AKATECHSUPPORT - There are a lot of differences between them. I use both of them, and FCE is a very decent option, but one of the things it lacks and is troublesome is the limited number of formats that it handles in comparison to its bigger brother. DVCPRO HD, DVCPRO50, SD and HD card camcorder footage, as well as any other shot at 24fps will require FCP instead of FCE.
Hey, I could buy it used for $150 but i might point out that Im sorta on a budget... like... a really small budget... as in that would be almost all of the money I would be willing to spend. Is it really worth it do you think?
im working on FCE as well on my MacBook (the old Black one still) with 4GB and its working just fine , been working on it for almost a year now and i think im getting pretty good. Check out my Guitar Hero vid i edited on FCE 2 weeks after i bought the prog.
pretty easy prog to use , you should definitely get it !
i was watchin the video and when he said, 'this is a really great program' right after that my mom turned on the radio beside me and the guy on the radio said, 'its the greatest thing in the world!' lol
when u buy the program and it says register do not register it!!!!!! if you dont register it you may share it with other computors so if you have 2 macs (or a freind) then u can share the program. so do not ever register it whenever it says register click register later
Hi Todd, thanks for the review..i am a fcp user in my college...it's too expensive, i can't afford it..so i'm considering fce.. is fce supports formats like fcp? or perhaps just drag and drop from my microSD or hard disk drive?
...i need software that is not to slow with AVCHD format... Have 3,0 Dual core, 3Gb RAM (4), win xp, and try Pinacle, Ulead, but is to f...... slow...
Do you know sometheng fine for that? Not look for profesional, i need onley fade in/out, and cut the scene... That is most whot i need (and work fine with avchd)
To sharpdressedkid, If you are near an Apple Store, i would take it in there along with you Mac and show them. They will help, even if you don't have Apple Care Protection.
How come you never do your videos with Final Cut Express 4? Do you just settle for Imovie all the time? If you are using it, You are not utilizing much of it. All your videos are just you sitting and talking to the camera, you know?
Not sure, I guess it is just easier to do them with imovie. I just felt that I really do not need to use FCE anymore! What would you like me to do with FCE? Please feel free to suggestion something!
Sorry to hear that about FCE. I love that program! I try and do most of my videos in FCE. Occasionally, I will finnish my scenes and import them to Imovie 08 for a little speaking time. I'm not ready to invest in IM09 yet. In FCE, I love using moving video on video, cloning, spinning, better cropping, sizing the window, and panning around the picture, even if it was captured by a still camera.
I admit FCE wasn't as easy to pick up as the ILife apps, but I managed.
yer dude u think thats sucks i got fce4 and it was fine then coupel of mounths down the line it crashes re installed and the dam pin/code think has gone i cant find it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am pretty sure you can do green screen stuff with Final Cut Express, I am not sure with Sony Vegas since I have never used it before, but I know you can do green screen with Final Cut Express!
does it give really good results with green screens? ... if you know and are there any special effects in it ? or do you need a special effects package?
Thanks for the kind words! I am working on more video's and trying to build up everything again since I lost it when the account got hacked! Thanks again for being a viewer, and subscriber!
Any great examples of Final Cut Express? Is it too hard to use? I mean I am good with Photoshop and I caught on with that. I just don't get enough out of iMovie. There is like, not enough effects, transitions, I want something that looks good. And can you do Picture in Picture?
It is not difficult to use, but it is more complex than imovie. You can do three point editing and the tools are straight forward. It's a powerful editing tool for the price.
can it only be used on apple macs ? can it be used on windows vista? this programme looks really good. i would like to make a video with a good, easy to use video software :).
i heard that fce 4 lost a lot of soundtrack features compared to the 3.5hd. Please tell me the so called consequences of the lacking features. Please hit me back.
Yes, the new final cut express does not have soundtrack, but I think they did this because of Garageband. You can do everything similar with soundtrack in Garageband. I hope that helps
great review, i have final cut express 4 hd and i love it. you make pretty fair comments on the program and the way you explained was pretty good too.
Todd, this review was awesome man! I use Final Cut Express and Imovie08 a lot and love them both. Through trial and error, I found that Imovie is the best tool to get the video to You Tube, even if I did the whole thing through Final Cut Express. Stop by my channel and see some of my videos in Final Cut Express. Thanks a lot.
The UI if you ask me I think sucks!! It is this ugly silver and blue!! Eck. Plus you need to render the video, like after every change you make to the seen. Good review BTW
