  • Brian Cahl I think he is

  • The date is Thursday, July 15, 1982.

  • This is a great bit of TV history! It's interesting to see how Australian TV news adopted American influences years before most European TV stations did.

BTW, is it just me, or do parts of this theme sound a bit like Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles? It's probably just me.

  • wow those Brissy stations loved their 'newsboats'

  • @anchorman87 LOL! Newsboats - something you'd expect to see on the Simpsons! :)

  • You guys are from the UK, RIGHT? I'm just asking because I'm from the States.

  • huh.. you know where Brisbane is, I don't have to ask, right?!

  • Hey, no need to be sarcastic! I was JUST asking because i didn't KNOW! Hell, for all I know, they could've and you ALL could've been Australian!

  • U R right there !! .. TVQ 0-10 has had a kind of tradition of launching young female Anchors who have gone onto great success. I remember Jo Pearson co-reading with Brian Cahill in the late 1970s and she went on to ATV 10 Melbourne as did Marie-Louise for a spell. Also Robin Parkin debuted at 0 and then of course, Kay McGrath who is still at the top of her field on the top of the Mt Coot-tha in Brizzy !!

  • If my calculations are correct, Kay McGrath turned 50 last year and judging by the age of the tape Kay must have been in her mid twenties when she started with TV0.

  • The Guy is longtime veteran newsreader, Brian Cahill. Brian started at BTQ-7 in 1959 and also worked at some stage at channel 9 too but he read Eyewitness News on Channel 0 from about 1975 through to about 1983. He went on to try his hand at politics as a candidate for the National party. He was also an accomplished English and History Teacher.

  • Cahill would've had an excellent chance of being elected with the peanut premier rigging the votes. Speaking of rip-offs, this TVQ news theme in audio and video is a clear copy of the BTQ theme.

As for best news reader of the era, nothing can beat my man Don, he not only knew how to read news but also the pronunciation primo!

  • He was my English and History teacher in the mid-nineties - fantastic bloke! Quite rigid in his ways, but wonderful to learn from someone with so much experience in life.

  • who are the newsreaders?

  • One of them is Kay McGrath (not shown in the clip). As for the bloke, I got no idea.

  • Great clip,thanks for uploading
