Probably North Korea needs Japan's technological prowess and wisdom to deal against the U.S. and its Nato allies. NK knows they are not technologically advance to match the western powers. Japan has this anti-war in their constitution in which U.S. in the 1940's forced them to adapt it after Japan's defeat. In return, the American Gov't is obliged to help out Japan in case if any nation dared to threaten the Land of the Rising Sun.
If things get out of hand, like today, maybe Japan will consider boosting up its military might. I don't think Patriot missiles are enough to deter N. Korea. More powerful measures are needed.

America's problem with middle-eastern country, I think is pretty obvious because of support to Israel. Despite aid to Palestinian people too I think this is the main reason for it. The problems were here well before 2003 Iraq and Afghanistan.

The threats presented of late by North Korea are indeed a much different type of threat imposed on many countrys. For example: President Obama is presented a most difficult position to deal with in these matters. So many innocent human lives are to be considered. North Korea seems to desperately Need Attention now. But it's that kind of attention that nobody wants to deal with. What a desperate waste of finances for the North Koreans, this nuclear testing and missile testing.

You forget US is already in 2 wars? Our military is overstretched as it is, plus we're in an economic recession. If N.Korea actually did something rest assured US would kick it's fucking ass. But that would cause a lot more problems. Basically it could end up WW3. Japan (no offense) can't do anything militarily other than defend it's borders. But Japan CAN do that very very well, they still are in top 10 military of the world despite the huge handicap they have. Obama can't do anything drastic.

I think you need to learn how to spell before insulting a country. USA dropped nukes on Japan because if we would have invaded homeland Japan we would have lost a million soldiers on the beachead alone.
