Originally Jim Henson hated the idea of adding a laugh reel. But I think it adds to the humorous nature of the show. The jokes in the pilot are pretty good, they just don't grab your attention very much without the laughter reel.
I loved working on this show. I was very impressed with the sets, and how professional everyone was. I was one of the recording engineers on the show. Jim Henson and Frank Oz were such a nice people and very talented
@rty1955 In that case, thank you for helping to make such a fantastic show! I grew up on this show - Tuesday nights, 7:00 (I got to stay up "late" - haha!) Thank you!
@200c5 no this is not like a disny show or anything like that this is more of a adult show it used to be on late at night is is like a puppet version of snl
Nigel got replaced by Kermit. lol I wonder if during the later season of the Muppet show if he became a janitor or something and that's why we never seem him. Waldorf and Statler were so BORING before they started heckling. It's funny to know that Janice didn't always speak the way she does now.
@razorramone63139 If you look closely during the opening and closing credits of the show you will see that after the pilot Nigel became the orchestra maestro.
@niva2gr Yes, as I already stated, I noticed that as I watched the season more. I was just talking about this last night with a friend. lol It's also funny how Animal went from being chained up in the basement to being part of a band.
Love the Japanese subtitles for the Swedish chef's show. It's incredible that this was the pilot, because in structure it's nothing like the show itself. It feels strange to watch it without canned laughter, as well.
If you refer to the first pilot THE MUPPETS VALENTINE SHOW (1974), originally his name was Crazy Donald. Named after puppeteer Don Sahlin, who reportedly took pleasure in playing explosive pranks on his fellow performers. The name was inexplicably rechanged later to Crazy Harry. Same puppet, just an inexplicable name change.
07:37-08:19: Statler sounds different, that's because it's Jerry Nelson performing him here.
"Nope. Nigel was the original host, but apparently he was too "wimpy". I don't see it." TEKUAPETLA and Peevalnari you're both wrong ningel was the original Kermit.

This is the second pilot :)

The spiraling effect in Floyd's shades was really a lighting trick and not part of the puppet like a lot of people think.
