heard all these way back when I started researching what his real last name was. It's so cool, it's amazing how many decades his contributions has spanded.
When I was 14, my first job had 50's and 60s rock n roll blaring over the intercom. Not until now have I ever realized that DIO was playing! What an amazing man
Ronnie was a great guy. When you heard the Prophets play live, before they hit it big, you knew they were going be a big success. So many of us from Ronnies home town and great memories to keep forever. R.I.P. Ronnie! We miss ya.
RJD's Old World Italian Grandmother's superstitious spiritual eccentricities inspired his incorporation of the ubiquitous Devil's Horns "Malook" into his stage persona. Those same associations years earlier lead him to record this. Maybe only a visit to Gypsy "Madame Rue" can sort out the conflicting signals, emotions & mysteries that the potential loss & subsequent absence of "Love" inflict upon us all, enveloping our very souls around an indescribable & excruciatingly agonizing spiritual void.
Another gem from RJD's formative yrs. Although first recorded by Wash. DC's "Clovers" in 1959, it was recorded no less than six times in the sixties; from the "British Invasion" through the "Flower Power/Psychedelic" era. The appeal of a song embracing an all encompassing "Solution" for the vagaries of "True Love" was more than a little appealing amid the tumultuous decagon that saw the convergence of Fresh Idealism, Uncensored War & New Psychotropic Options in the lives of so many young people
Amazinging how he took different styles during his early years and incorporated into his own voice, for example some of the mid and late 60's stuff sounded very "Who-ish" and this particular song which is from 64 (the year before I was born) sounds very "John Lennonish"
@ohso41 I totally agree with you! I discovered these albums recently, I was amazed! He was a great singer! I so sorry I didn't get the chance to see him live (I was born in '83). I was so happy when they announced Heaven And Hell at Sonisphere this summer... and then... so sad... :(
A song about a mysterious magic potion. Is it really such a stretch from the Gypsies, Mystics and Stargazers he would embrace later on?
