  • eeewwwwww

  • forever alone favorite song

  • What is the name of the instrument that they are using in this, I have been looking all over for it, please I need to know, anyone??

  • @jakobsson85 i believe it is a "mandolin". with lots of reverb.

    such a great tune.

  • I am having one of several glasses of port (apropos, yes?) and chilling out to this....

  • listen to marsha ambrosius version , marsha sings it way better than portishead

  • Full special K

  • How could anyone dislike this song?????

  • 2:58; is Beth slightly cross-eyed??She is still beautiful though; now she has LOTS of sex appeal; its something which a woman either has or hasnt; strutting round half naked does NOT make a woman more sexy, sexiness comes from deep within. Just saying. Oh and this is a BEAUTIFUL and amazing song; and sexy too:P

  • i miss MTV when the "M" used to stands for music =(

  • I Just referenced this song in my blog post.

  • @Europa2099 You're right. If you hadn't put everything in caps, I would have just dismissed you as an idiot and moved on. But because you did, I now think you're an idiot who can't turn his caps lock off.

  • @Europa2099 U S A! U S A! U S A!

  • no remarks, just enjoyment in a so-called free world.

in the next two months we shall not move out or have any communication to the outside world-

    BUT WE SAY FUCK YU

  • ALLCAPS COMMENT FOR THE WIN.

  • @Europa2099 Now what exactly does this have to do with this song... I would be totally offended by your completely rude and racist remarks but that wouldn't be about the song either. So in lue of that, this song is not to bad but I must admit, marsha ambrosius' version is a lot better. See.....

  • Wow! This is so reminiscent of Akira Yamaoka's music from the Silent Hill series. It would be great if this song were influenced by him :) If you listen to Silent Hill 1's opening theme you can hear its similarities. Chilling yet beautiful ^_^

  • @DizzyOtaku Considering this album came out in 1994, 5 full years before the game, I would say that's unlikely to be an influence.

  • @Ogrecrusher Damn xD Didn't do my research ^_^; lol. Maybe Akira's a Portishead fan ;) hehe

  • @DizzyOtaku Hehe indeed! This album was basically said to define a new genre, so it's likely to be influential.

  • Ahhhhhh, yes! Brings to mind spys, beautiful double agents, secret plans, guns, briefcases with false bottoms, blondes with fake boobs, intrigue and mystery. What more can you ask for in music.

  • @welkflingers When I first heard this song, longer ago than I care to think about lol, the second thing it reminded of (the first being sex, of course) was exactly what you described; makes me think of John Le Carre and spy novels. Great minds think alike, yes?

  • Reminds me so much of Akira Yamaoka's stuff.

  • Yeah, this isn't sexual at all.

Makes me wanna pour a glass of rum and chill out.

  • @QuicklyMrScott You must be asexual.

Perhaps it isn't music to fuck to or anything, but it certainly creates an atmosphere where you could have a romantic evening with a girl. Like a scene in a Noire movie.

  • @Danorowski Yeah, that is what I meant. Glory box is much more of a fucking song than this. This is more of a chilled out romantic song, like you said.

    No way I'm asexual, buddy. : D

  • HOW MUCH/KM?

    ONLY EMAIL COMMUNICATION

  • HOW ABOUT THE TIME AND SPATIAL DISTANCE TRAVELLED SINCE PORTISHEAD?

  • Nobody Loves me, Its True, Not Like you Do.<3

  • MTV totally does suck these days. I remember it meant so much in the 90s, but i guess it just cares for the "younger" generation and what they're into. Not that im 50 or anything, im still in my 20s.

This has been a public service announcement. Thank you.

  • It sort of creeps up on you ?

  • I think I saw this in a movie or something recently, but I can't remember which...

  • back when mtv cared about music rather than 'hooks'

  • I don't remember ever seeing a Portishead video on MTV, I can assure you this was not a regular occurence. Even back when they played videos, I hated them because they mostly played shit. Alternative Nation was about as good as it got.

  • @flukenukeem

The first Portishead video I saw on MTV was "Only You", at around 7:15 am while getting ready for school. I do miss the days of MTV where they actually played videos, the cartoons were hilarious, The Real World and Road Rules actually meant something and there were actually great videos nominated for the VMAs, and fans weren't allowed to vote on them.

  • @flukenukeem When they were at the height of their fame, MTV Europe played their videos regularly.

  • its about intimacy or maybe just sleazy

  • I don't really understand how people keep saying this music is supposed to make you want to have sex.

It just gives me an enchanted, mysterious feeling. I don't feel anything even remotely close to sexual desire.

    Am I weird or something?

  • @fuzzytangent your not doing it right checkout "smokecity underwater love" also

  • @fuzzytangent Nothing weird about that. I think that it's the slow, driving beats mixed in with a bit of that ethereal feeling that some people find sexy. Maybe it's because a lot of their songs take the same tempo as something you'd pick for a sensual striptease - audio foreplay? Perhaps.

  • @fuzzytangent call a girl over and put this on.

  • @fuzzytangent hell no; i think anyone who thinks of this as "sex music" is wierd

  • @fuzzytangent One has to be a romantic to understand the sexual desire created by this music,,,

  • @fuzzytangent no your not, is jusy your "Mysterons" mate.

  • @fuzzytangent Kinda..

  • On the movie Gonger: El mal viene del pasado i listen this great trakc of this big band :D im in love of Trp-hop Yeap >_<

  • 1:52, i can see "Numb" still, for the single :D

  • Kind of reminds me of a James Bond theme song. Very cool track.

  • This song needs to be used as the title track for the 2012 Bond film.

  • @TheAlphabetBunyip so does "The Rhythm Divine" by Yello

  • @71lolwut yep...reminds me of goldfinger

  • @71lolwut After listening to "Yello Featuring Shirley Bassey - The Rhythm Divine" I agree. In fact, either song would be suitable.

  • Please please please, someone tell me where I can find the instrumental. (I already have Danube Incident.) Thanks!

  • @victoriawillardx you are a bit optimist... (a very large bit, i dare say)

  • Isn't interesting how almost every 90's teen lost their virginity to a portishead song..? xD<3

  • when i saw this title i instantly thought of marsha ambrosious "sour times" she sampled this song

  • love this one

  • Thank you Lalo Schifrin, for writing this song for us

  • @Victheremin he never wrote it smart arse ... they used a sample from one of his songs ....

  • Timeless, classic band. Going to see in Berkeley on October 31st after missing them in Glastonbury 99 due to the fucking rain.

  • This song or the original was never in a James Bond movie. This song is actually sampled from a song called "Danube Incident" by Lalo Schifrin who did compose the theme for Misson Impossible as well as plenty of other movie compositions.

  • phatest beat n tune !! heard the hip hop version?? Rawcotiks- Live your life

  • @iRIEdoitz the prowl was the frst hip hop song to sample this song

  • @TheRETROKID1980 do da smackin wit my bat so my hands dont sting

  • OTRA SONG 90ERA ,,,,LA MELANCOLIA DESGARRABA LAS CANCIONES DE ESA EPOCA MARAVILLOSA

  • From the days when MTV actually meant MUSIC Television

  • PORTISHEAD = GODS..........yeah nobody loves me,not like you do...

  • @jairzinho1974 LALO SCHIFRIN IS GOD SUPREME!!!!!!

  • Cof cof..MTV!!

  • This song would make an amazing James Bond song.

  • DOPE SONG

  • Cuando mtv era bueno y con buena musica, no como ahora que es una porqueria de canal

  • apla uperoxo...........

  • Not only the backbone of this title (a csarda's loop) is totally lifted from Lalo Schifrin's "Danube Incident", but the chess part of this clip is stupid. OK, we have the chessboard correctly placed, but, in the opening of this videoclip, Black, a rook ahead (the one at h7), sacrifices needlessly his queen to g1. Many chess amateurs will see at 0:15 a tempo Nf5-g3+ forking king and queen. Besides, at 2:10, the position is not the same.and BEFORE the faulty Qg1+. Sour times, time paradox?

  • @BixenteFabregas none of that shit matters, its still a class tune no?

  • @ADZ23774 I don't wanna troll here. But certain disc producers think that they can forcefeed the hearer with samples of long forgotten songs and making irrelevant vidclips at the speed of light... And sadly, it works. Remove the csardas, the bass line and the guitar, you obtain only Portishead voice... And she sings off-tune.on that #2 seller in UK charts. At least that song was a smash hit for the debut of Portishead. But in 20 years, who will be mostly remembered? Portishead or Lalo Schifrin?

  • @BixenteFabregas that totaly depends,i bought Dummy around the time it was released and me fr one,and probs a load of other ppl dncin fr 12 hrs in the early nineties, will defo still remember portishead,

  • @ADZ23774 One thing with which I totally agree with you is that "Sour Times" is a good tune. But good doesn't mean original. Good does mean pleasant to hear from beginning to end. But ranking it to worldclass song is strongly overhyped. The producer hasn't talent, but craft and flair, and Lalo Schifrin is the authentic genius behind it all. Nevertheless, I like Portishead, Tricky, Massive Attack, all the trip-hop scene. But knowing how this is done gives more height to ancient music composers.

  • @BixenteFabregas am gonna look up this Lalo Schifrin bird, sounds like its worth a butchers,thnx..

  • @ADZ23774 He composed many legendary tracks: Mission: Impossible, Mannix, Bullitt, Enter the Dragon, (etc.) worked with Astor Piazzolla, Xavier Cugat, Dizzy Gillespie and Sarah Vaughan. Not a giant, but still a big, big one.

  • @BixenteFabregas thnx much fr the info, its often by chance conversations like this that you find something that you really like.

  • @BixenteFabregas It's not simply a matter of picking a good sample. It's how that sample is arranged with percussion and whatever else the producer adds. That's why they will stand out. And, I'm sorry, but Beth Gibbons' voice is perfection. Watch one of their live sets sometime. Preferably the song "Roads".

  • @ohjeezriles Now I strongly aggree with your point of view. I've discovered how daft punk tunes were made via excellent websites and... amazing! this is a real work (cut and paste, reversing and more). Here, we don't have such a work but... Sounds good.

  • ahhh. when MTV actually PLAYED VIDEOS..good times..

  • STOP SAYING NOBODY LOVES YOU! I'M RIGHT HERE.......

  • Nobody loves you... no like I do.

  • Holy shiit D: MTV used to play this in 90's .... i was born in 1994 ... too bad i didnt catch those times of mtv D:

  • @Alaangb I had music videos, Daria and Beavis and Butthead. You get Jersey Shore. Enjoy.

  • @droge085 Liquid Television :)

  • @droge085 the sheer magnitude of this comment, fantastic.

  • @Alaangb or mate,ya missed the allnight galacticas then goin back to a mates and puttin this or massive attack and gettin blitzed to try to come dwn b4 monday morn, them were the days..

  • x-files

  • Funny to see such a big difference on what MTV played then and now...

  • @tevax456 Funny?? I would say sad and pathetic. MTV is a joke. A bad, very unfunny one.

  • @ststephen909 Taking comments literally, even when the meaning behind them is clear.. *sigh*

That said, you're entirely right too. TV seems like a disease sometimes, given the amount of pure shit on it.

  • @tevax456 I think the biggest difference is that MTV actually played videos back then. It should be called RTV now (Realities Television)

  • @tevax456 MTV sucks so bad now. They should call it Reality TV.

  • @tevax456 i think it's more sad than funny

  • @tevax456 Watch VH1 Classic, they played Sour Times and all the good ol' oldies.

  • @tevax456 as someone has put it, MTV in now full of BS about and for pregnant teenagers

  • @tevax456 --- for sure, the 90's was very introspective

  • @tevax456 Is it all guns, ho's, tts and arses now?

  • Remind anyone of Clara Rinker of the John Sanford "Prey" novels?

  • This is what the wives of russian mafia bosses play at night.

  • we meet again mr Bond

  • Learn something new everyday; I didn't know Portishead originally did this. Marsha Ambrosius does a great cover on her CD "Late Nights & Early Mornings"

  • Take a ride, take a shot now.

  • it's true

  • sounds like this song is meant to be in Silent Hill just saying

  • @XxShAnE07Xx That's what this song has always reminded me of for some reason.

  • I LUV U BETH GIBBONS,AND WOULD MARRY U!!!

  • undoubtly I could listen portishead all day.

  • @maryAnne951 Maybe, but if you listen to "Machine Gun" all day, it will give you a headache from hell. Trust me!

  • This song reminds me of Clara Rinker from the John Sanford "Prey" novels. Any takers?

  • been listening to since i discovered acid 18 years ago

  • this is my anthem :' /

  • Can;t believe this album is 17 years old already. It never ages

  • there is something about Portishead.....this stuff is sooo cool!

  • Oddly enough I have had this tune in my end for a while now but didn't know who it was from. Cheers for the upload :}

  • i remember the first time hearing "nobody loves me it's true" and thinking "aww that's so sad." then hearing "not like you do" and thinking "bitch, you tricked me." awesome song, nonetheless.

  • @GlitcHead i kinda wish it said 'nobody loves you, it's true, not like you do'

  • fucking lovely
