To those of you comparing the Tau Empire to Stalinist USSR, I would say the Imperium have a far more Communist approach towards things than the Tau. You could argue that the zealous religion of the God Emperor (who isn't even a god, just a powerful psycher) is a Cult of Personality, much like that of Stalin and Kim Jong'il, at it's absolute extreme. The Tau, to my knowledge, are one of the few races who employ tactics that spare as many lives as possible.

The tau are neat and all, but they don't have a snow balls chance in hell of coming out on top ultimately. They can't go into the warp and have inferior FTL travel, so defeating the Imperium won't happen. Orks are everywhere and will just come to fight the next biggest threat. The full force of the Tyranids has yet to come into this galaxy. Chaos can never truly die (yet). The Eldar just won't bother with them. And the Necrons are yet to fully wake. Not much to help them then.

TheTryrantDemon is right. The entirety of the Tau Empire is so small that it couldn't last a week in total war with any of the other factions. It only survives because it is not a large enough threat to anyone that the adults can be bothered to deal with it. I mean, most of their military resources are spent just stemming the Ork tide in their space, and that is a relatively small portion of the Ork menace.

The Tau Empire is about as powerful as the Imperium in the terms of technology and they can even use their smaller armies to ambush Imperial forces and quickly retreat before reinforcements can come. And the Fire Caste has the respect of the Ultramarines as well. Tau are very worthy foes indeed. GG on the vid.

Here's what i think, if anyone cares:

The Imperium could beat Tau for the time

being, but not for long. As the Tau advance rapidly in terms of technology, the Imperium kills, burns and purges anyone with balls to suggest something entirely new. Lasgun can still drop a Fire Warrior, so why bother improving it? And Tau forces already carry plasma weapons as standard.

But Imperials tend to think that universe belongs to Man alone, Eldar outrank even the Imperium in terms of arrogance, and naive Tau dream about peace and prosperity.

That would be a deadly alliance. Eldar have the greatest knowledge of the surrounding galaxy, Tau have incredible level of technology and Imperium have numbers and biggest balls. Imagine every Guardsman of the IG armed with Pulse Carbine/Rifle.

The biggest threat the Tau pose on the Imperium is political. The Imperial citizens are treated like garbage. Under the Tau Empire they would be much better off, and that is why they are enemies of man. A few planets conceed to the Tau, sooner than you think whole sectors will be rebelling against the IG in favor of the Tau.

On top of that, leading an extermination campaign against the Tau as a whole would require MASSIVE resources on the Imperium's part. Resources it desperately needs to defend planets elsewhere from bigger threats like Chaos, Tyrannids, Orcs, and the occasional DE raid. If they pooled all their resources together and went against the tau... yes, they could destroy the Tau. But every other enemy of the imperium would have a field day.

What makes the Tau Empire stand out from any society in human history is their utilitarianism. Also, the Tau value the individual's life, the USSR did not.

One could say something like this:

The Guardsmen Handbook says that if you're captured alive by the Tau they'll not only sterilize and erase your personality in favor of one more amiable to the Greater Good, but put you in camp making poisons their infiltrators put in Tau goods they smuggle in the Imperium. Undoubtedly in also suggests you'll be responsible for killing your entire family. Therefore avoid capture at all cost.

Sorry for taking you for a noob! The Tau ,to be honest....you can't identify them with being reptilian, mammal, etc! They have a quite unique design when it comes to the warhammer universe! They do however resemble the protoss from starcraft, who have reptilian trademarks such as the inverted legs or the scales so maybe they could be reptilian! Unless someone makes a movie, unit or model that depicts a detailed Tau person we can just assume!

There is racism, which is bad, and then there is xenophobia, which is worse. The other races (except the Orks, Tyranids, and Necrons who just do not care) are more xenophobic, a mark of cultural stagnation at best and decline at worst.

i play necs and i have to say although Tau arnt the hardest to beat, it is awful having to advance on the them they have soooo much ranged power. they can quite literally obliterate your forces before you can meet them.
