Cool stuff. I got rid of my DX7 and TX7 for FM8 and Komplete 7. The only thing better with the Native Instruments is not as much cables. But I'm loving this tune. :)
I have an original Yamaha DX7, but I prefer my axiom 49 when playing since it has all the midi controls (play, pause, etc.). Is it possible to take the hardware from the dx7 and turn it into a dedicated midi controlled synthesizer? Is that what you did?
Amazing machine, i just bought one and if i didnt hear your demo, i wouldnt have bought it lol it should arrive in a day or 2 what computer do you use to control it and what software would be best to go with it?
@Filthdrive Go for what? 1: I use Sounddiver (Mac+PC) for editing of the Yamaha TX-7. It works fine, without problems, easy. But of course better you should understand FM-Synthesis. TX-7 brings not really so many parameters, like as example the Yamaha SY-77. But enough for good FM-sounds :) 2: My equipment for made my demos: Emagic AMT8, MotU 24 I/O, Emagic Logic Sequencer, my brain & heart ;-)
@DrSqu Do i need a Data Cassette recorder for loading and saving sounds on the TX7? lol i'm lost on a few things, the only thing ive managed to do is hook my TX7 to sounddiver and play with the lfo's and such lol
@Filthdrive No, you don't need the cassette interface. All you can edit and manage with Sounddiver ... it's a library for managing the sounds and complete soundbanks. There you also can load/save/exchange soundbulks. It means, you can save your complete TX7 in a midifile, sysex. Also you can load from othersources soundfiles (sysex/midi) into TX7. And of course, it's an editor for edit the sounds.
@DrSqu Ah cool thanks, i have now somehow managed to lose all the factory sounds from the TX7 and i am hearing only a tone sound (voice) lol i dont know how i done it... and i have been editing the tone sound voice with Sounddiver LFOs paramaters and it's quite fun lol but i do think i have lost the factory sounds, do you think i have somehow deleted them or overwitten them with sounddiver by mistake?
Sounds Great! I just sold my DX-7 my second one but i'm planning in getting a tx7 for all times sake. No where did i leave that logic CD. some how logic never did well on my pc, but i had a good experience using Master Tracks.
While I was never a big DX fan (I had a DX21 briefly and made ONE cool patch I really liked with it), I love the Simmons-sounding tom/snare sound at around the 2:50 mark of this.
How good is the software used to program it (Unisyn etc...) ?? Seriously thinking about buying one... as I can't afford a Dx and the local flea market as 2 Tx7's lying around.
I love Emagic/Apple Sounddiver for most editing of synthesizers. It really works fine. Else maybe there's a freeware in web for DX7. Unisyn is not bad. hmmm... i swear on Sounddiver.
This makes me think of something that Stephane Picq (former composer for Cryo Interactive and now a New Age composer) would program for games that used the old AdLib PC sound card. Very nice job, man.
O mighty God of FM Synthesis, I'm not worthy... :-)
Dann ein einfacher FM-Algo - Operatoren off.
Just picked one up for $50. I'd recommend playing with something like Ableton's Operator to have a more visual idea of how this stuff works. The patch editors that I have seen mostly make no sense compared to that.
i love the part with the little buzzing sound this track makes me smile

Great sound, very nice tune.
How did you record this tune?
Record the one voice at a time and later mixed them together?

Just bought a SY77 yesterday. I am new to FM synthesis. Where shall I start? CHEERS

Danke für die Infos. Ich habe bisher nur die Basics drauf, was Subtrative Synthese angeht. Habe einen Blofeld und Virus C.
War jetzt 2 Monate verhindert und werde jetzt ein bißchen mit FM rumspielen. :)
Danke für deine Tipps und liebe Grüße

@blockthesignal
I created the sounds with help of the midieditor Sounddiver :) There is a good overview of all parameters.

This is possible THE demo that shows how unexplored the DX7 still are.
I'm probably never going to do it but I would like to build/configure a controller for it instead of clicking around sound diver...
