i was born in the 90s sadly, but i will always love n appreciate the 80s music n style , , music style never changes people do! n if people just learned how to appreciate music , then we would still hav the 80s here n now :)
This is just amazing. I love this song, one of the best song I have ever and will probably hear, because people make such a horrible music nowadays. I'm glad that Bernard is still making music, they are now called Bad Lieutenant and songs are really good : )
@ZXRulezzz Dude I had that game back in the daaayyyyy I cant remember what the HELL it was called but I remember I had a copy of it on my old BBC Acorn Computer: CTRL ALT DELETE for Fun on Floppies!
There is more good music today than ever before, you just have to do some work in finding it. Thanks to the internet, any talented person has the ability to share what they've created without lucking out on a record contract. We look back and only see the good bands of the past, while conveniently forgetting the truly horrible state of pop music back in "the good old days". That fact is, music designed to be popular for a broad audience will suck, whether it is called ABBA or GAGA.
It will never be the same, what a massive change in music style when this came along. One of the last great tracks to change the music scene, although Portshead where probably the last. We are stuck in a time warp now, nothing new and I doubt there will be again. It was great to be 16 when this came out and to hear the change at first had.
Not many bands come close to stretching the technology of the day. Kraftwerk and New Order. This track pushed the boundaries of music technology like no other. The Linn Drum Machine had just come out and also the Emulator. This track blow me and my friends away, we had never heard anything like it. There used to be a line of people asking the dj to put in on other and other again, he must have put it on about 20 times a night and that is no lie.
This takes me back to my days in the U.K. First heard this in a club in Gloucster, think it was Cinderella Rockerfellas--been awhile!!! Thanks for posting, pilicedillo.
When you'll be an adult and have real responsibilities, you'll understand why the rest of the band continued. Beside, this is New Order, not Joy Division. By changing their name and start over, they left the legacy of Joy Division intact, so you should lay them off and be thankful instead.
@nedley95 stop idolising people, curtis was just a person like anyone else, certainly not a god! thankfully they didn't just finish it after he died, because i think early new order is better than joy division
cf77777 i completely agree, even though im only thirteen I definetly think modern music is crap, and mordern artist are to full of them self's to make anything decent
i'm so glad i was young in the 80's and partied to this music...so much better than the fluff that's out now and the boring people who are considered 'stars' now
Not sure exactly what this video is about, but it's definitely got something to do with the Cold War, and I love how it bridges generations of video editing: traditional chroma trickery with early Apple II digitization and video gaming. Pretty amazing considering the budget was almost nothing; must have been, else it'd be a Sun or Apoll, not a home computer, and we'd not have so much old-school color mangling. Perhaps New Order had to choose between recycled stock or shitty live-action?
I was born in the perfect synch. I was 13 when this came out, so parents bought me all the 45's. In late 80's I was old enough to hit the clubs and dance to High Energy and Freestyle and in my 20's I had enough money to see all the rock and grunge bands in concert.
yea this song is one of the most coypied from ever! rihanna shut up n drive, m.i.a 20$and orgy, i mean there is more. this is the orignal but very re-copyied from because it one of the best
I saw New Order in L.A. in 1983 at the ripe ole' age of 16---The story goes that I was spending the night at a friends house but instead we drove with a car full of friends from Palm Springs to LA. Probably one of the most fun concerts I had ever been to! It was only the third US show they had done! I told my mom that story about 20 years later! She laughed, but now I have a teenage daughter of my own--She just goes to Jonas Brothers concerts:-/..Boy have times changed....
Perhaps the notion that'video killed the radio star' had some truth and was still not as necessary as the beat or music then, the cold war was still on, we approached Orwells concept of '1984' Bowie had sung of, Kraftwerk brought in the techno sounds
The song is one of the best ever, so how can the video suck so hard? A few live versions i've seen were fucking lame, too. Still, a truly great song of all time.
From my own observations, whenever Blue Monday was lame live, it was because it was hard to duplicate the electronic beats in those days, plus Barney sometime couldn't decide which voice pitch to sing. The more recent live performances are much better and Barney has finally decided to stick with the studio voice pitch.
I remember dancing to this tune plus songs like Berlin's "Metro", Trans-X's "Living in Video", Yaz's "Situation", Depeche Mode's "Never Let Me Down Again" & Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Right Round" back in the day at the Love-A-Fair in Vancouver, B.C.
Orgys version sounds happier :) I like the original better, its not such a mainstream song anymore...(back in 88 it was but now...)..also its more serious i think...
Amo esta canción!!! Tengo especial aversion contra los ingleses, pero hay que admintir que son los mejores en cuestión de música, las bandas mas grandes son inglesas, salvo U2 y Simple Minds...
