i freaking love greensleeves. i don't want to spam, but if you could, please check out this really good song i made for my lit class? i used greensleeves. love you.
@Gustaveleloup I totally agree on that sentence. This is not even plain english style, it is based on the Italian "romanescas", pretty much like sonnatas. Although it may seem Celtic due to the use of guitar, it isn't. Beautiful version though. =)
When I went in scotland last summer i stopped by for three nights in a wonderful hotel in Poolewe (very north of the scotland). So we are in Celts lands. The owners of this hotel told me (I'm a composer) that some years ago anther composer stood there for a couple of moths because he had to "find inspiration". They said he made the soundtrack of a movie... guess what?? The Lord of the Rings!
@slayer1234567891 Slayer, slayer -- a 'fuckwit'? I'll have to look that up - you never know, I might be one . . . but all I really want is a little intonation in the music I listen to - you know, for the instruments to be "in tune"? Maybe it's just a gay thing.
@JohnnyLeyenda Well, it's no like I just write "medieval tune" or "old english song" and this song just pops out, lots of other songs appear in each search. Finding it wasn't a priority anyway, I'm just glad I know the name now, end of the story.
@thepiedjester My misunderstanding, I thought you were talking bout modern Britons instead of their ancient ancestors, yes you are right in that case.
@thepiedjester (wiki "British people") I'd counter that it's much more complex than that....but we'd be here for days discussing the ancestry of the British :P
However, Henry did not compose "Greensleeves", which is probably Elizabethan in origin and is based on an Italian style of composition that did not reach England until after his death.
Umm.. so what exactly is Celtic about this? It's nice and all, but neither is the song from a "Celtic" culture nor are the instruments exclusively "Celtic".
it is not celtic its english, the celts dont exist becase they all have become seperate cultres, and that hapend about 900 or 800 ad. and this was composed in 1510 by king Henry the 8

Someone explain to me how this is Celtic. To start, this is an English tune from the late 16th century.

@thepiedjester You'd have to argue that, the Scots, Welsh and Irish are. Britons as we know them are more descended from the Anglos and Saxons.
