  • This is an Ode to Jazz.

  • Notice the precision of the Brecker Brothers' solos: Michael's tenor sax solo begins around 2:00 and Randy's trumpet solo begin around 5:00 - and they're both about 2 minutes long.

  • the Brecker brothers!!!

  • Holt up. There is even go-go in the beat. Genius in its entirety.

  • This is a favorite song I like. My parents loved listening to and playing all types of Jazz,so I would hear Jazz a lot at home, along with other types of music!

  • Whats not to like about this. Even the worst parts are so over the top. The final run from around 6:55 is the definition of In the Groove.

  • This gave me my life! Antonio

  • Michael Brecker R.I.P and Chaka Khan, use a bra!

    Tell me what You hear...thx

  • @extremist79

i hear something that sounds VERY 'RIGHT'...it's on the recording as well...and it is, to me, one of the highlights as far as chords...x

  • @extremist79 Awesome sound but check this out: 4:22. Is that sung correct? Tell me what You hear...thx

I see & hear her taking the cue too soon, catching herself, and dropping back out so the backup line can finish their part. She hits a couple notes then stops with a frowny face

  • I listen to this once a day...can't get enough of this band and Chaka's Voice singing over it!!!

  • Crikey this has so much energy it could power the national grid - check the control at 4:45 it takes mega technique to bring it back in so tight - what a band!!!! <3

  • Classic Chaka as only she does it !

  • OH MY GODS.

Bought this on vinyl a long time ago in the 80's and it is even better today. The brothers and Chaka together + the rest of these top notch musicians incredible. Thx for posting.

  • I just got owned by a saxaphone.

  • Brecker!!

  • I need to hear Chaka sing all the time. I need to hear that song that starts: "Sweet Song Saying Take Me Back..... I Wanna Go"! Someone who has it, please post that one. Much Love to Chaka and Much Love to her Beautiful Fans! How can we not love this Sister of Love & Perfection? Love to All!

  • 3:23 that was THE lick, right there

  • @HammondB200 yes, now I have that lick in my head all day O_o

  • this is a great live jam! the album version is pretty great to (for those of you that remember vinyl) I got this when it first came out, still blows me away...No One Like Ms. Chaka Khan!

  • i like it cause its still analog

  • who is layin this down these days? gone forever?

  • YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • I'm usually a guy who frowns upon electric instruments being used in jazz fashion except for rhythm guitar. But this was the best version of this tune ever done and certainly the best on YouTube. I've been watching this clip for years and I still can't get enough of it. It just brings an irresistible smile to your face.

  • @beeshor1 why are you against electric instruments in jazz?

  • @Brian4hand I'm an acoustic instrument fan. I love straight-ahead jazz. When the cats start bringing the electric instruments into it, they tend to stray from the swingin' rhythm section that we all associate with classic jazz and then the fusion stuff becomes more prominent. I don't dig fusion.

  • @beeshor1 There is truth to that, but a lot of times it just wouldn't sound 'right' on some instruments playing the classic feel. I like Johnny Griffin and Casey Benjamin, so its possible to find a middle ground...I would say give fusion another chance

  • @beeshor1 miles did fusion. i mean i agree with your assesment though because i prefer jazz straight to the head nothing added

  • @beeshor1 likewise with me, i wouldnt say the best because of the duzzy orginial, it doesnt compare, not because its better, but just because its so different. night in tunisia is one of those songs that done by the right people, no matter how it sounds, its awsome :)

  • @feddo62 Well, you certainly have a good point. When I use words like "best", it implies that other versions are not as good. I definitely enjoy Dizzy's version and just about every version done by Art Blakey and the Messengers. So my choice of the word "best" wasn't really the best way to describe it. LOL. And you're right..... "Tunisia" is such a great song that when it's done right it sounds terrific no matter who is playing it. Great reply you gave.

  • @beeshor1 frowns upon?! You fuckin luddite!!! AHAHAHA

  • @Nuditeaf Yeah....sue me for be a fan of traditional, straight-ahead jazz.

  • @beeshor1 IT DOSE

  • @beeshor1 what an odd thing to say. That's what makes it jazz fusion. The cross influences of jazz with rock, funk and other styles. This means that other electric instruments in the arrangement are an absolute given. Without them you dont have REAL jazz fusion.

  • @bogusdogus I think you misread my comment. I meant that I'm usually against electric instruments being used in a jazz FASHION. I know it becomes what they call "fusion" when they incorporate all of the electrical instruments along with rock, funk and other elements. I don't like fusion. I'm a lover of straight-ahead jazz and acoustic instruments. But I can find pleasure in the occasional "fusion" type song. That is the case here.

  • That groove is just plain PHATT! Jazz meets Funk! Sensory overload. Whew!!

  • WOW! NUF said.

  • This song is so shit-hot its unbelievable! the groove is ridiculous!!!!

  • Chaka is the greatest singer ever n MB solo...too hot too hot pure joy...

  • I just can't listen to this enough...

  • The music is overpowering, in an empowering sort of way!

And the lyrics give credit to Dizzy and Frank for making the first cuts in the path for other musicians to celebrate this very unique "jazz" melody.

  • Fuck me n I'lsay it again ......

  • Wow, what a treat!

    Thank you for posting this.

  • Saxylarry26 is correct. This is some awesome footage of Chaka along with the Brecker Bros. and other greats. I'm a Brecker fan and never seen this under his tag. Thanks for the post! Very inspiring!!

  • If you put Michael Brecker in the tags you will get tons of hits for this.

  • @saxylarry26 - I agree.... this is a all-star lineup. If you want more hits tag as many of the famous musicians you can. Here are a few I recognize without further research: drummer Steve Ferrone (Average White Band, Duran Duran, Clapton, Tom Petty), guitarist/vocalist Hamish Stuart (AWB, Paul McCartney) and the legendary bassist Anthony Jackson who besides working with all the greats also wrote and played the signature riff for the O'Jays "For The Love Of Money".

  • Saxo solo - off the Richter!

  • Man! Everybody on the date is groovin'.

  • luv the funk

  • sang chaka

  • OMG this is the bomb!! I LOVE the Brecker brothers and Chaka makes it work too!!!!

  • Imagin playin guitar like that sax player !!!!

  • Chaka is the baddest from 70's on up !!!!!
