Absolutely, this song was sampled from Janis Ian's "At Seventeen", from back in 1975. I love Maroon 5...but I wish proper credit was given to Janis Ian, who began her career in the late 60's, way before Kayne West was pooping in his diapers. Problem is...most people are too young to even know these artists & their music...so they credit things to newer artists who swiped what they did from the older artists. Give credit where credit is due.
Actually they can't... Unless it's on an actual CD... Because UMG is one of Youtubes sponsors so technically they would just aadvertise on the video... You don't need to credit the artist... The worst that they will do is remove it...
You guys are all off. Kanye had written his verses for Heard Em Say and Adam Levine had already written this song... They kinda molded the two together. So Kanye really sampled Maroon 5 and I guess Adam Levine sampled Janis Ian. Please don't be misinformed haters.
OKAY... the credit is to the music... what verse chorus is similar to this song... NONE!! Besides the fact that the cords are similar and melody... THERE ISN'T ANYTHING ELSE SIMILAR. Don't dictate someones opinion...ESP if you don't know what you talkin about!!

they copied john legend's style. Can't think of the name of the song(s) on the top of my head. But definitely a strong hint of john legend's style of song writing.
Old times...♥

I hear alot of people giving credit to kayne west but the original artist maroon 5 sampled this from is janis ian's song at seventeen from 1975.
I hope maroon 5 gives the credit to the real original artist not kayne west since he ripped from the original artist.

Why do people hate though? Without sampling we'd be out of new music.
Heck, I love people who sample. It's always nice to hear a fresh interpretation of a great song.
