Love the acoustic version ... If a song was to be measured by its very meaningful lyrics, then this song would undoubtedly ... be up there at the top.
That singer still has it! It was a hit back in the 80's and still relevant today. " Ghost appear and fade away." 13th Journey is right, Colin Hay is on of the best most underrated singers.
@coketherealthing I think it's cute that you assume I for some reason was actually upset over what you said. You weren't just expressing your love for this song, you were talking down on Scrubs, trying to separate yourself and make yourself special because you happened to like the song before it was featured on the show. And now you're being condescending to me for defending the show and pointing out your out of context remark. I think you have some self-worth issues to sort out, my friend.
Hey man. Everyone's gotta find out about good music somehow. He/she found it through scrubs. "And in the end.." they still found a song that was good and one that you like as well.
@coketherealthing You're aware that no one cares if you liked the song before Scrubs, right? Scrubs is a great show, and features a lot of good music. Including a few other Colin Hay songs. I knew and liked Men at Work before I ever saw Scrubs, but I actually didn't know that Colin Hay had gone solo until I saw those song versions on the show. So, technically, I liked Overkill before I saw Scrubs too. But I'm not senselessly defaming a show for featuring some damn good music.
@StanTheRecordMan There is no such thing as a western guitar or concert guitar.
There are acoustics and electric, and both are named after the manner in which they produce the music. Colin is playing an acoustic because he is by himself and the hassle of having to haul around an amp and electric. Also, most writers use an acoustic to do their writing. When he is with his band he has to use electric to produce signal to amplify. Acoustics can be used in concert like electrics.
@bashfulbrother Incorrect sir, western guitars and concert guitars are two types of acoustic guitars. The differences are based on body size and there are more sizes--parlor and dreadnought and others. The terms are usually used indiscriminately and sometimes incorrectly. Look it up sometime.
@kesselrun0801 Well, they may sell the guitars under these monikers, but I can tell you this, after 35 years of playing guitar all over the world, if you walked up to any working musician and said, "I just bought a concert guitar." They would look at you like you had a screw loose. In the business it's acoustic or solid body, Pickups or not.
@StanTheRecordMan They are all guitars and while a electric usually is solid body or an arch top it doesn't produce audible signal without an amp. You don't need that with an acoustic. Also, acoustics are a nice way to reintroduce a song and give it a different flavor.
Glad I could help, it's a great song for acoustic, but try that G flat after the Fsharp and slide up to the G. That chord structure I gave is a variation on the Fsharp but it sounds great, I played this in a bar and it went down really well, have fun.
I can't believe there are critical comments directed at this video, unless of course they're acknowledging the fact that Scrubs is the biggest bummer on tv in decades. This band was great, and this rendition is awesome. So good to see him doing Men At Work songs, and his voice held up beautifully. Someone hasn't been drinking and chainsmoking for the last 30 years, and if he has.... really AWESOME! Colin Hay. Austroylian for music.
@quaquichote For some reason he's playing in a higher key than usual. I suggest you play in the original key and capo 2nd fret if you want to play along with this version. Verse - D, Fsharp minor, C and Em Chorus - Bm, A, Bm, A. I think it might be the next chord you want where he says 'ghosts appear and fade away', i don't know what it's called but place 1st finger 2nd string 2nd fret and 2nd 3rd 4th fingers on 5th 4th 3rd strings 4th fret and then it's G flat to G. Good luck
6 people "can't get to sleep" because they are too busy clicking dislike....Lazlo Bane first did the different tempo version of this song with colin coming in on the last chorus...then he redid it this way....but it's his song he can do whatever he wants with it !!!
Love listening to Colin Hay sing. He actually sounds better in the acoustic version of this song. His voice hasn't gotten trashed like a lot of older famous musicians either.
@jiggahippo I am very sorry if that hurt your sentiment. I know its a 80s song and I only came to know about this when I heard it in Scrubs. But then again, musician whores will do almost anything for money. I still like the music though.
See!......Somethings are real!.......Not everything is just prepackaged , manufactured, auto-tuned bullshit! Music is and can be real! Some artists are artists This song is nearly 30 years old and Collin can bring it to life as though it were the first time being sung, because he is real!
@amsmom1957 i feel nostalgic listening colin hay delivering such a great work, make me feel lucky to have grown up in the time when music was music, when an artists was someone who's skills where well above others. i look around me in this world that idolizes rebecca black, taylor swift and justin beiber, and ask HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
