  • Negative. A chip, by itself, in a GN isn't going to make much of a difference at all.

  • lol guys the GN did win.....the light came up first for the 350z, but the times were 14.283 for the z and 14.258 for the gn

  • @WhatAFluke: Bracket Racing

  • Comment removed

  • THE GN AGAINST THE 350 IS LIKE PUTTING A 07 VETT AGAINST A 07 MUSTANG....NO CONTEST...

  • Grand National should have won EASY

  • lmfao@loosing to a stock 350z . what a fail

  • that is a stock GN dude the times for those were around 14s with good launch ,aybe high 13s.

  • LordSamuelJ. Wrong. A stock GN can close to double it's rear wheel hp with just tuning. With the right gas and slicks a well tuned stock GN can dip into the hi 12's. This GN looked very stock, like no tuning what so ever.

  • 14s is was a stock GN will run. They need mods to run better. They are fast cars when worked on but in stock form, a GT mustang will eat it.

  • @LordSamuelJ depends on the year. the 87 GNX will run in the mid 13 stock. but the 84's were 15.9 at stock boost.

  • Its funny that these people dont know what bracket racing is xD Read up on it then comment.

The buick dialed a 14.15, the 350 dialed a 14.40. Its more of skill than just power.

    Herp derp

  • thats some bullshit the gn should be running around high or mid 13's

  • @187lazyjoker not a stock GN

  • all you people that comment on these 1/4mile videos, saying "that guy doesn't know how to drive", you obviously don't make it out to the drag strip very often. any drag racer knows that you go out for a whole day of racing, and you get a whole lot of shitty runs, and maybe 1-2 runs that reflect the actual performance of the car. boo-hoo, the GN ran a 14-sec run, and its capable of 0.5 seconds faster. this might have been his worst run of the day. lighten up people

  • this was a really, really close race. The grand national won by like 1/100th of a second though... woo hooo go buick

  • Did anyone consider the age difference in the 2 cars??? 1987 for the Buick and 200? what is the Nissan. The Buick was a beast back in its day and can still hold its own even today. Sports car is what the Z is and Muscle car is the Buick.

  • lol i love reading the top comments. all the butthurt people can't stand that in this particular race the GN lost...seriously get over it. it was a nice race

  • @insatiableTy ???? But the GN won the race??? thats why his side of the board lit up when they passed over the line:)

  • that dude still didnt know how to drive it. a gn should be capable of low 13's high 12's and he's doing 14.5 wtf

  • 350z's are for chicks. Chicks everywhere drive those things

  • I'm sure this is already posted somewhere in all these comments, but the 350Z wasn't faster; it just got to the finish line first. Pause at 0:25 and see for yourself.

  • Gn win's no batter what. Look at my vid lol

  • Wait a sec? The 350 won? He got really lucky he was going against a shitty driver because theres no fckin way....

  • @richardxx9011 GN is automatic fyi

  • @WhatIThinke yeah how do you know if he dropped the auto and put in a manual? GN is a faster car even if the dude had a automatic.. he was doing something wrong

  • Holy shit 14 seconds?? The GN obviosly need to get a better turbo, my friends GN was running 12 until he put a 70mm Turbo on it, now its in the tens

  • 2 all time fav. cars no contest between both.

  • i used to drag those GN by the bumper in my 5.0. it had 150 shot and came out to about 500 flbs on a 4500 launch. it was stock 302 and T5, that car rocked to shit out of people and had everyone in Dallas thinking it had a motor under the stock heads and intake... who the hell would put a stroker under a stock headed/intake 5.0?? people just under estimated those cars in stock trim. you just had to know how to drive to bug eyed people.haha it was fun

  • The GNX turned 12s right out of the box, to bad you'll never see one of those blasting down the track since they are worth 6 figures now and they was only 547 ever built. The GNs were very quick right out of the factory too, with a few tweaks they would really fly.

  • GN 6 cyl is the best 6 cyl ever made...and ima 2JZGTE fan

  • LOL at all these fags saying the GN cant drive, that 350z was running BALLS SLOW

I ran my 350z at 13.6 being STOCK and automatic so the 350z owner cant drive sorry

  • love the 350, but the gnx is in my eyes the ultimate sleeper

  • high 14 s for tha GN its did better stock at its test runs in 86 and 87 stock hahah

  • The GN weighs a hell alot more.

  • That race was close but the G.N. won it. Good race.

  • got same z... not bad though gn are no joke

  • the GN is one of that fastest production cars ever made...he cannot drag race for shit

  • Grand National

  • t type were exactly the same as the gn they also had intercolors.

  • nissan n'égaleras jamais le Grand National

  • dont fuck with darth fader's car

  • The reason the GN was discontinued was because GM was phasing out the G body cars and bring in all front wheel drive cars. Had nothing to do with the GN beating the Corvette. Buick and Pontiac G bodies ended in 1987 while Chevrolet and Oldsmobile ended in 1988. Look it up. Buick just wanted to go out with a bang and that is why people were able to get the turbo package on any type of Regal. Buick built over 20,000 turbo Buicks. The T-type is faster than the GN and the GNX is the fastest of them.

  • @walkerscranger correction, the T-Type was the slowest of the 3 (no intercooler) then was the GN( a T-Type with intercooler) and the king of the hill was the GNX.

  • @sixty9fordkiller In 1987 all T-Types, GNs and GNX had the exact same engine which included a intercooler. VIN 7 is the engine code and they all received the hood with the bulge. No difference. The GNX did receive modifications to the rest of the drive train but the engine was stock with an a different turbo and intercooler. The GN was heavier than the T-Type which made the GN slower.

  • @sixty9fordkiller Too bad they only made 500. Such a beauty the GNX really is.

  • good race.

  • Both you and the GN didnt run their best..

Im not a fan of Japanese cars. But I will give you some advice, either way..

The best mod you can probably do is a good sticky set of rear tire and a small-decent shot of Nitrous.. You can easily run low 12s, id assume... I wouldnt doubt it..

  • rather go turbo than n2o

  • that GN was not in top cond.

  • Can't believe how many views this video got.

    I don't have my 350z anymore, now I drive a Trans am WS6.

    Happy racing everyone!

  • @Mid117 god I love those Trans ams

  • @Mid117 Very nice im looking to buy a ws6 soon. I have an lt1 z/28 now.

  • great u beat a stock GN

    haha nice Z though

  • I ran 13.70 in my GN w.17lbs of boost on 93 octane on a really COLD night.

  • Bullshit. "Chip" the GN, and it would be no contest. That 350Z would be left in another time zone.

The GN can be turned into a monster at the installation of a chip. The 350Z is no contest.

  • @BreathDoctor

The boost in a GN isn't controlled by the computer. A chip only alters things the timing and fuel maps. Just putting a chip in a GN isn't going to make much of a difference. It's only needed if you install bigger injectors and more boost to compensate for the changes.

  • @BreathDoctor A chip in a gn is an extra 25hp and 75ftlbs tq...add a HO pump, hotwire, injectors and adjustable wastegate and thats 110tq and 35 hp...

  • @BreathDoctor I hope your talking about a tuning program in the ECU and not a pre programed chip. Big difference between the two.

  • Nice run!

  • just because its fast driving in straight a line doesnt mean the car is good.

  • haha...sounds like someones been hurt before?

  • 350Z just barely beat a 20 year old car. The GN was/is a beast.

  • Comment removed

  • 14.40 vs 14.15 were the times from the race before this, I believe.

If you notice, those numbers are there long before the 350 and the GN even get halfway down the track, look at :18

Two new times are listed just as they cross the line. The 350Z time shows up just a fraction of a second earlier.

  • the Gn also has a turbo. if the z had one there wuld be no chance the technology put nto one, not sayinf built cars stock. both are amazing cars

  • GN was the fastest production car in 86 and 87! nothing could beat it!!!! and its still kickin ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE GN's, BUT - I was there in 86 and 87, and NO, the GN could be beat. I know because I did it, 3 times out of 5. 0-80 my 1986 mustang 5.0, could hold them off, and for top speed as well.

And the 'vettes were faster. Sorry, but I was there in the 80's and know which cars were fastest, and I raced them all: GN's, Vettes, IROC's, T/A's, Supras, 300ZX's, and a 5.0 FOX with some basic mods, with a 5-speed was hard to beat. Plus cheap as dirt, basically.

  • GN just has the higher specs. but im not gonna argue with that 5.0! i like those 5.0s and theres some damn quick street legal ones too!!!

  • um no thats why the gn was discontinued or that was one of the reasons becuase it blew the doors off vettes

  • Whatever. I was there, I know what I experienced. No revisionist history here, dude.

A 5.0 with basic mods was a tough beast to beat, and yes, a GN was tough as well.

  • yeah stock 87 vette ran a 15 and a stock 87 gn ran a 14.1. it had 245hp with 355lbs-tq it was the fastest car in gms lineup from 85-87

  • yeah, but the did the same thing with the GN that they did the Taurus SHO when it first came out. they desinged it, and tested it. Then they backed the power off because the GN would beat the Vette in a drag, just like the prototype SHO would beat the Cobra in a drag.

  • muscle beats import evrytime lol

  • that wasnt the fastest gn ive seen

  • buick gn's were 275 turbo charged hp 6 cyl....with 488 pnds of torque 3472 pnds of raw steel..... back in the day that car was a beast!

  • gn's still are beasts when built X_X;;

  • yea it was a beast, at that time it was faster than the vette.

but i thought it was 276hp with 300ibs tourque,,,,car n driver actually rated it at 300hp in their review

  • my dad had a regal turbo which is kinda the same i think and he said it was a monster up to like 80 then that was it. he also said the turbo wouldnt stop spinning after the engine was shut off and would burn all the grease every time and he constantly had to re lube it. the doors were also massive and bent the hinges then wouldnt close right. so for the first 3 years they are great cars. then not so much

  • LOL....a 305 Regal in the 13's with "minor mods"?? 305's were GM's 145 hp joke. You'd need a 200 shot of nitrous to hit 13's.

  • LOL!! at TiKondaRoga saying: "Standard regal" LMAO!!

  • Whats funny about that? People put the GN rims on Regal's all the time to make them look like GN's. A 305 regal with some minor mods could easily run in the 13's.

  • man I was only just being silly when you said "standard" It was more of a stab towards the Z then anything though!! My friend (who has a 2003 350Z roadster) claims he eats EVERYthing for lunch!! HIS LIE: He claims to have 350 HP with NO mods by tune only!! WTF? LMAO!! I would LOVE for him to be walked by a GN or Regal, etc!! Or even read your previous comment, He NEEDS to!! Listen, I had an 88 Olds Cutty 307 HO as a teeny bopper...I understand what these GM 5.0's do when you mod em right. ;)

  • thats true man i have a friend that has a 2004 350z and he says the same thing the he eats all kinds of cars just by a tuned...thats some funny shit

  • fuck

  • my GN was faster then that one so i question the drivers skills

  • Gns always fuckin win im sick of it!!

  • If the 350Z won this race that other drive clearly doesnt know how to drive because that stock of a 350 will get owned everytime by a stock GN

  • @0TAPOUT no the gn probably could've used a tune-up, and an engine flush. it's an automatic so the owner must not have kept his beauty up to par :-/

  • @0TAPOUT What probably happened is that he held his foot down through second and spun the tires. You can't flatfoot the 1-2 shift in this car.

  • @0TAPOUT well thumbs down for you because all regals GN and GNX came automatic so knowing how to drive has nothing to do with it....it just simply that 350z is quick

  • @0TAPOUT GN is auto so driver error is pretty difficult to make unless he doesnt know what the gas pedal looks like.

Dont forget the Z could be modded.

The GN and 350z made very similar WHP values (if the Z is an HR). 07+ Z made ~320hp based on previous hp ratings, 306hp by todays ratings.

Dont get me wrong, i love the GN but lets not overlook the facts here.

  • @WhatIThinke Not true, if you have ever tried to race a car with over 250 hp and automatic its not a matter of just punching the gas because you will spin out of the hole. Where stick cars can roll off the clutch to gain traction. If he is doing it right its about loading up the torque converter before take off. Hold the brake and gas so the rpm matches up to the stall. Say 2800 rpm then roll out of it. You cant just punch it from the light you will spin.

  • @0TAPOUT 350z 14283 buick 14258 the buick won

  • GN is way faster then 350Z

  • Thats a standard Regal lol. A GN should do mid 13's stock.

  • low 14s all day high 13s with a good driver. the 350 z is the same but i think it has wat 260 hp the commercials say??? and a gn at 245???? hmmmm

  • lol more like 300 +

  • awesome! btw, was that David Spade at 0:19? lol. Anyway, I worship the GN

  • Comment removed

  • Buick was way stock add a boost controller you can run 11's with stock turbo and intercooler.

Turbo swap and you have a monster!

  • Im pretty sure the buick runs 14 something stock...

  • nationals can rune 12's stock

  • you are correct sir. I didn't own my GN when it was stock, but the guy who did showed me his time slips and I believe a 13.97 was his best time and that was with beautiful blue skies and a crisp 28F outside. (His words not mine). To me still pretty impressive for a 20 year old car, that was stock and the fact that the stock block and trans can handle much more. Now with the 93 chip in, he ran a 13.8.

Now, with a TE44, alky and alky chip I ran 12.1 and I managed to blow a head gasket.

  • Grand Nationals are made with the devil's evil. No other car with match it's legendary status

  • i love both cars but i wanted the GN to win!

  • wow the GN driver sucked balls

  • Pretty sure it was auto, so how could he have done any different?

  • power brake

if you dont launch a GN right, then you shouldnt drag it.

Also, those cars are easily bump shifted. Almost as good as a manual

  • $30-$40,000 to run 14's....hot damn.Nice looking cars though..

  • Grand National is pure evil

  • GN are some sick cars

  • an eg runs 13s

  • Good race! I absolutely love the GN, cheap to modify and has the potential to be INSANELY fast

350z's are sick too....just too bad i dont have the money to afford one =P

    props to both cars

  • Something is wrong with that '87 GN. They are usually a mid 13 sec. stock.

  • Maybe they are at a higher altitude I know here in colorado Et's are over a second slower then sea level

  • they aren't in a high altitude. its at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown NJ. not very high above see level. maybe like 200 ft about see level, if that much. the GN isn't running right in that race, normally they are about 13.8.

  • yeah i think englishtown is like a foot above sea level lol

    u go there often?

i take my z there too

  • not as often as i would like. but i'm an hour north of Etown. and i wouldn't really race my car just yet. my car is still stock. maybe once i get into college i can do some simple things to it.

  • yeah i havent gotten there as often as i like either. im gonna go as soon as it opens. since the last time i went I now have injen cai, titek test pipes, short throw shifter, and I bought a set of nitto nt555 tires for the rear so hopefully Ill have alot better traction this time.

  • i want 4.10s before i go to the strip. maybe the road course as a stocker. =P just to go fast. to race competitively there i'd probably want a PI swap and a J mod.

  • yeah i think you mean the 4.08s. yeah i was actually looking at the 3.9s. what is the pi swap n j mod?

  • no. 4.10s

    that's a ford gear.

pi swap is an head and intake manifold upgrade to the 99-04 style 4.6L SOHC 2V engines. raises hp from 225 in my car to 260.

and a j mod is for the 4R70W trans, quicker shifting and prolongs the life of the trans. it was designed by the engineer of the trans.

  • i think thats the GNX that was doin 13's stock, but i could be wrong.

GN's are still fucken sweet though

  • the GNX is dope.

  • indeed, very rare also

  • Yea right. Invest another $2000 in the GN... and the rest is all show..

  • who won i cant tell

  • I think the 350z won...it looks like a 14.24 for the 350 and a 14.25 for the grand nat....very close, but i cant really tell either.

  • gn one

  • take a closer peek....350z is 14.20 and gn is 14.25

  • that was real close but i think your right

  • Yep...14.20 for the Z and 14.25 for the GN. VERY close. Fuck i'd be shitting my pants with a race that close lol.

  • For being a stock Grand National that was quick

  • Sandbaggers!!!!

  • i obviously have no idea what is in this gn, but i assume its close to stock...if it was a stock gnx or a gn with some decent mods, theres no way that ricer could hang...the only reason its close is cuz its a shit-ton lighter cuz its made out of plastic garbage

  • elohssa - you're a braindead moron. Your parents never should've met.

  • This is what the owner of the 350 Z wrote me: "This is my 350z vs. a Grand National at the track. My mods are a plenum spacer, intake, and nismo catback, everything else stock, down to the tire. No idea on the mods the gn had, if any. I need more practice, my Z is capable of 13's." This is all believable, including the fact that if the GN owner hooked it up, the Gn would easily be capable of 11-13 sec..

So why exactly does that make me braindead? The 350 is fast, but the GN could easily win

  • Of course the GN should've beaten me, but by you calling the 350z a "ricer" and "plastic garbage" isn't helping your argument at all.

I'm a fan of both domestics and imports, but this bias is stupid.

  • ok well i can see how you would find that biased, but would it have been better if i called it a "rice rocket"? besides, how is it biased if its true

  • Actually all the jap manufacturer are the most reliable you can get and I love the grand but the truth is thats only real car GM hase ever made until the 08 vette came out.If you wont the best performace and almost jap reliability then the germans have it covered.

  • i really couldnt agree with you more, yamasubaruger!

  • Thats the truth!

  • ur just a gay nazi...

  • Your just jeluse because your ilegle street racing was on German designed roads and with a German designed motor vehicle dumb fuck hahaahaahaahaa!!!

  • OOP'S I spelled

"jEALOUS" and "ILLEGAL" wrong, well it is 3:40AM.

  • @Mid117 Agreed. "Buy American!" "Blah stupid ricer"

Can't you just show a love for all cars and stop being single minded fucks?

  • lol, yeah. your mom should've swallowed you.

  • who are you talking to?

  • I meant to reply to your comment.

Mid117 (3 weeks ago) Reply elohssa - you're a braindead moron. Your parents never should've met.

  • if u are planing on running 13 u are either going to need juice or a piggy back

  • I already broke into the 13's without any ecu work or nitrous... :) I ran 13.8@103 all motor

  • The GN had you at first!! Makes since it makes more torque stock and if modded even more. The 350 is simply lighter and has about the same hp stock!! Nice!

  • Grand National still king of the road in my books

  • yeah just the road. god help it if it encounters a corner and/or curve.

  • they go around curves very well trust me i did a road race with mine it handle very well

  • closetbeaner:

The honda guys logic that American cars can't handle, is a myth. My WS6 matched my 350z's time at an autocross event I went to recently.

  • The only reason it matched your time is b'coz it has a good range in torque coming out of the bends. I'm positive it does not have a stock suspension and factory tires. I've seen them rack-up good times but none in stock form.

  • I'm a fan of GN's but i have to agree with that lol

  • thats awesome!

  • Don't post any more stupid comments here, I'll keep removing them.

  • GSR+EG=13's

  • you guys are still bitching over this video? wow....

By the way, I don't have my 350z anymore...I now drive an '02 Trans Am WS6. I like both imports and domestics but some people are just stupid with brand/region loyalty.

  • WS6?

    nice!

alot better than the z in my opinion

  • Who won.

  • Burned.

  • You stupid bitch. BRING YOUR SHIT! I have a 99 Formula with your GD name on it. You dumb shits that talk like imports are gods gift to man have never BEEN in a fast car. Even a GD Honda Accord seems fast when you've been walkin your whole life. Nissan GT-R = track car. You're comparin apples to oranges you ignorant cunt.

  • a gnx would run 13s stock even with the 3:43 gears in it. haha, trust me, it will walk imports. you get new exhaust and tires, and its running with the big boys.

  • a gnx stock should run 12s anytime. imports got nothing on these v6 turbo monsters

  • HAZLET SUCKSSS!!!

  • thats pretty good to keep up with or beat a GN with a 350z. The GN will run yah 13s stock. Mild upgrades will easly push one into the 12s.

  • screw that 350z even my friends old pos 87 conquest can keep up with a vette...dont know against a GN but damn seeing that buick brings back some good ole memories

  • Lol...you can obviously read, to some degree at least, but evidently you cannot comprehend. Do you not know what a "straight line" is? I never said the Vette was quicker around a track. And after re-reading your post about putting the Mustang up against the GTR, I now see that my previous post went completely over your head.

  • Why not put the ZO6 up against the GTR. It's still faster in a straight line.

  • Dude, do you know how ignorant you sound making blanket statements like this? Does this mean that a Z06 won't beat a 350Z? Or a Mustang won't beat a Nissan Versa? FYI, GN's were mid 13 second cars stock and 350Z's are low 14 second cars. Not slouches, but not really fast by today's standards.

  • gtr's are fast nonetheless. but come on...for the price of that i can take a "rustang" and burn the living hell out of a gtr. a track is a different story but who actually knows about a american muscle driving anything but a straight?
