This is one of my favoured jazz standards, and Joe Chindamo is one of my fave pianists. The first 3 times I watched this I was disappointed, I didn't get it. But its one of those arrangements that has hauntingly grown on me, and having watched it a few times I now hear it as the incredible masterpice that it is. This guy really is a genius. A couple of points it sounds like he has 3 consecutive (and all beautiful) lines happening. I prefer the last 2/3'rds of this (after all the runs). 5*!
@EoN604 Sometimes I wonder if this is just a kind of warming up-playing, the kind where you use all your tricks of the trade and enjoy that your fingers can run so fast. At 3.00 something begins to happen though.
a sad commentary from "Tapmoron,' he/she just doesn't get it. Too bad. Take some jazz lessons please. or maybe you could be a recruit for the 'jazz police!' Sad.
I m sorry to dislike this man performance, destroying a master piece like that by marmelade of souless technique is quite sad. Listen to Chet or Ahmad Jamal version ... . Mr Chindamo is certainly a great technician ad know all many styles but he just never get close to play music.
@tapmoron gets a bit better at 3:00 but his technical abilities does greatly exceed his soul\rubato. Some of the sections are in an almost baroque like precision which just seems weird with jazz chords.
They would all be smiling, they are all masters and play with such genious. I've personally had the opportunity to see Joe play at a local jazz bar on many occaisions and his sound just warms the room, leaving you with endless inspiration (musician myself). They are all individual players, and while they share similarities, their styles, phrasing and touch emancipate the true colour and beauty of the music they play! Just enjoy it! It's brilliant Jazz. :)
He seems so quiet .... !

Isn't the Tatum-esque stuff just for show? The Perterson-esque stuff, however, is really good!

The beginning is very Art Tatum... both have phenomenal technique.

Genius piano technique and creativity. Who else on earth play's like this?
vicki555 4 years ago
for instance Leonid Chizhik, Denny Zeitlin, Chick Corea.
But he is very good.
