All this 'speculation' about Apple and there future , they think Jobs comes up with these ideas...will it survive....if they dont have 100's of design/market/buisness guys to develop products.
I doubt Apple will fall, they already have the user base to be sustainable, there share price might fluctuate and Emeek77 will try to do himself in. Steve Jandali is coming up on 60 years old, it is no surprise he his stepping down from a highly stressful position which would be aggravating his cancer.
The device you removed was not properly put away. Data might have been lost or damaged. Before you unplug your device, you must select its icon in the Finder and Eject from the file menu.
:P you can see that at 8:08 lol i thought u'd know the importance of ejecting :P
@mrbit10 lol i look up to you as some one more technologically knowledgable, can you answer one question i could never figure out? why do pretty much NO cameras charge off USB?! iPods have been doing it for 10 years now and i'm yet to see a single point and shoot that does it.
@xsonicbladex These days it's very rare for anything bad to happen if you remove a drive without ejecting, OSX just throws a hissy fit when you do it lol. If it was in the middle of a write or read then you can run into trouble, but it's unlikely to mess the drive up, just the file/s in question.
@TalesOfWar i would disagree since write or read operations are more common than you'd expect, and often go out without the user's attention. For example Mac OS does automatic defragmentation on small (<20mb) files. if the volume was in the middle of such a defragmentation and it was forcefully removed, you might have some (possibly devastating) problems
@xsonicbladex Good point, but I don't think OSX defrags flash drives, which is the most common kind of drive you'll yank out without ejecting first lol. I've had it bitch at me when I plug in a drive I forgot to eject before, but I've never lost any data (touch wood!), just get nagged at. Windows does the same sometimes too, makes you do a scan which can take forever on larger drives!
@TalesOfWar oo this is true since i just remembered the auto-defrag type thing only works for mac os journaled partitions. so i can see not-ejecting being an issue for me since i have a macbook that docks to a time machine disk prone to spontaneous read/write operations
@TalesOfWar Well, Windows used to nag people too. You're really not supposed to yank a f;ash drive while it is busy. OSX and Classic Mac OS constantly monitors drives when you insert them. Tho, I think OSX server is different in that behavior. Windows kinda takes note of them and looks for the drive again when it needs it.
So, when you insert a drive into a Mac, it's actually being used on some level while the windows drive may only be used when information is needed from it.
@sc0pl355 It is because of the indexing service OS X provides. It puts spotlight files (hidden ones) on the drive and indexes its contents I think... not for sure but it is just an observation.
@JamesManes Yeah, that's close. Classic Mac OS did the same thing. That's probably why those ghost files appear when you take some flash drives from a mac over to a pc. Classic Mac Os had its own search feature called Sherlock, before that it had a regular search feature.
its sad but who care's even if apple's stops making new products and simply updates its current ones it will be fine for about 10 years...just a thought
If another CEO would start taking risks, people would laugh at him for trying to imitate Steve and if he failed once or twice, the market would panic.
I say Apple needs to take a break for a year and then start taking risks when the investors and people are a bit more comfortable.
@Vikruntasas $50+billion in cash reserves is a very comfortable risk mattress. They could take some pretty huge risks and never hurt their bottom line. Infact, they have enough cash to run the company with it's current overheads for 7 years, without making a single penny. That's a huge risk minimiser right there lol.
@blacksteel25 Oh hell no. Woz would be the worst choice possible.
The-worst-choice-possible!
It would be about as bad as asking Steve Balmer to take over as CEO of Apple. For different reasons, of course.
Woz is not a businessman and he's certainly not a strategist in any sense of the word. If you need someone to design a remote control using parts from the 90's, then fine, hire Woz to do that. Need someone to lead a multi-billion dollar empire? Don't get Woz.
@blacksteel25 Nah, Woz is an engineer, not a leader. That's why it took the combined awesomeness of him and Jobs to create Apple. Woz made the products, Jobs told the world how much they need it.

He is getting old and he is ill and not in really good health. So why is it a mystery that he is stepping down or taking it easy?

Why would he want to 'cover up' anything dealing with Samsung?
Why is it so hard to believe that the man is seriously ill and needs to immediately address that or maybe die in the short term?
