They are very large seeds not small seeds. You do not need to go through all the nonsense of bags. Just plant them in the ground. The seeds do not have starts thay have cotyledons starts are what baby plants are called
Yes it does matter. Sunflowers are a bit more forgiving and will grow from anywhere from 5.5 to 8.
Try to keep it neutral around 6.5 or 7, and do a bit of research. These videos are quite basic, and to even the novice grower, and contribute very little info.
in every video.... she says "so easy to grow"... "one of my favorite plants" and never knows what the hell she is talking about.... what does it take to be considered an expert in gardening? A mound of dirt and a ho? pun intended. ouch.
My GOD you never actually SHOW what you're talking about! You don't even show an actual sunflower seed in this video, let alone show them actually being put in soil.
Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos and for all the nice comments!!

Brissa 47 asks - "when do you get the sunflower seeds from the sunflower, and how do you do it?" All flowering plants regenerat through seeds. The sunflower is the consumate example. You have to wait until its life cycle is over. Like most plants, the seed pod starts to dry out. Wait until the sunflower seeds are like a loose tooth. Cut the head off and place into a paper bag and let it dry out. On Mammoth heads. Slash the crap out the the back xcrossing to let it dry. or risk mold.
@BlasphemousPothead Yes, most seeds, need to mature. Mature to the end of their growth cycle. I'm no 'master gardener'. just a hack. But I've had some lemons that I've cut open have seeds sprouting? Generally, mature your seeds to whenthey start to dry out on the plant. Cut them off. Air dry them until next season planting. I let most of my stuff go to seed this year. OMG. I should sell some. 100 per pack. I've got at least 10k of each type
I have a multi headed huge sunflower with a single large flower at the top and intensely yellow smaller flowers all the way down the stem. Does anyone know what that is?
I also have a lot of autumn sunflowers in a variety of colors. So beautiful. I can't wait to plant next year. Another question, can you plant in the middle of winter, as long as you know there probably won't be another frost? Assuming of course that I can start the seedlings indoors.
@Brissa47 the sunflower will dry out and you get the flower. Let the flower to dry also and when its dry tap it so the seeds will fall. Dry also the seeds if they are wet. Do not dry the flower and seeds under the sun. just let is sit indoors.
Help!!! My sunflower is very big its like 1.25CM I guess but it leaves are very tiny and ugly at least the one who was the first , plus it gets weirder and weirder everyday cause it doesn't seem to like the spot, I putted it in the window for awhile as well it was growing then I got a table to put it on and I thought it was good but I got cat but I think she is trying to hurt my flower is that true? If you can help me with my flower please P.M me I beg you :).

pimprock23 9 months ago
@pimprock23 They need to have some wind to make the stem stronger. A fan or outside breeze.

@1nfidelcrusader
Do the seeds have to be very dry to be able to grow? Or are they "valid" if you will, as soon as they're formed by the wetter living plant?

do sunflowers close their petals at nighttime?
PridefulSin 3 years ago
Nope, they don't close at night, they stay open all the time till the flower looses its petals and goes to seed.
