I really enjoy seeing the main discussion here is not regarding Fernando's awfully closed portuguese accent but instead how close italian and portuguese are. XD
Anyways, I will add my opinion.
First of all, spanish and portuguese aren't close at all. Dunno why everybody keeps saying so. It's just like saying polish is close to russian or german is close to dutch. It's not, they have the same root and that's it. The only "spanish" close to portuguese is galician.
Regarding the discussion about the languages, indeed portuguese and spanish are very close, and we can add italian to this. Portuguese, spanish and italian speakers can understand at least a little of each language in question. I´m brazilian, portuguese speaker and, listening to Christina Scabbia I could understand at least some 40% of what she spoke (the italian part, the english part I got it 100%).
Hispanic is everbody from Spain and Spanish Latin America (that means, Latin America except Brazil)
I´m brazilian and therefore the correct would be "lusitanic-american" (if such term exists), because of the lusitanian (portuguese) roots Brazil carries within.
If your first language is portuguise and you just can't undearstand spanish you are a fucking lazy bastard because people who speak portuguise is able to undearstand a lot spanish. So i don't think that portuguise is a lot different,of course is another language but yeah is a bit the same,i mean the accent is different...well i can undearstand a lot spanish, not at all but ...i think you got it.
Ummm...no, Portuguese and Spanish are pretty different languages except for a few words which are pronounced similar or sound similar because both languages come from latin. There are more similarities between English and Spanish than between Portuguese and Spanish...also, the reporter is italian.
You don't have a fuckin clue, spanish more similar to english? nothing like that, spanish and portuguese are two of the languages that are more similar! don't try to come tell me i'm wrong cuz i'm portuguese and speak spanish!
Ok. people should not talk about something if they don't know much about it. I agree with Stainless. English has NOTHING to do with spanish nor portugese nor italian. I speak spanish, english and italian and can understand a LOT of portuguese and I can say that the english grammar is the easiest one to learn, that's why those who speak SPA, ITA, POR and even french can learn english faster than an english-speaking person can learn any of those. And shame on u 4 not knowing who the reporter is.
Fernando is portuguese, he speaks portuguese. Only people that speaks spanish are considered hispanics (spanish, mexicans,argentinians...).Portuguese and spanish, are by far different languages.
Hispânico não define Espanhol, define uma pessoa originária da zona geográfica da Hispânia, ou seja, Iberian Peninsula. And furthermore, Spanish and Portuguese are alike in many aspects, not by far different languages as you state. Let go your "wannabe" pride and assume our similiarities with spanish people, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

The interview went from Italian to English because Cristina was interviewing for an Italian program. Fernando Ribeiro is from Portugal and the only language Cristina and Fernando had in common was English. So she translated for her Italian audience.
Almost but not quite...for example, hispanics really would be the people who's roots go back to Hispania. I'm from South America and my roots don't go back to hispania, I have French, Portuguese, Swedish, etc etc...roots.
love hearing this in both italian n english.

italian isn't spanic, spanish, portuguese, italian, french an romenian are latin languages!!!
Stainless1369 4 years ago 2
hispanic is everything from Spain and Latin America right? So Italians are not hispanic Italians are mediterraens
Gurisssimo 4 years ago
Both Spainish and Italian are latin people, such as Portuguese :) But hyspanic are all spanish speakers.
ImaginaryVoncroy 3 years ago
Wrong, Hispanic is a denomination to classify people whose origins go back to Hispania.
1sTcHoSeN 3 years ago
That makes sense.
