  • You are me...but with money.

  • Gladys is a BEAUTY...

  • I subscribed by the way...Great channel

  • Gorgeous setup...Gladys is a BEAUTIFUL lady... :)

  • You'd think with a CCNA you'd have a real switch.

  • @hmjgriffon Whats wrong with a 5324. It is a full layer 2 switch that is CLI managed, $175, and passes traffic just as fast as the Procurve 2910als I use at work for my edge switches. The only two things I can't do with it is stack (but I don't need that for my home network), and route VLANs (which I don't need because my pfSense box takes care of that). To be honest I can't think of a better gigabit switch that would be cheaper.

  • Fuck you SONY

  • What do you use the broken ps3 for? And how does it help?

  • @JackPostich It is used for Folding@Home which is distributed cancer research.

  • where do you work and what degree do you have

  • @TheAmd1991 I work for a MSP / VISO company. I currently hold no degree, however do hold CCNA, MCSE Server 2008, and I am working on my CISSP and VCP certs.

  • I have a few questions for you :D.

Just wondering what packages do u r recommended on pfsense. I'm currently running the 1.2.3 stable version. What is the purpose of the dmz line, in ur network & is it worth adding?

I plan 2 buy a 2xquad xeon poweredge server soon off ebay, to host a couple of vm's, w/ a few game servers(TF2, minecraft),a webserver. I also plan on creating a vpn 4 some uni mates so we can lan together.

Are there any recommandation you can make for me? I have a spare Q6600 too.

  • @AnThOnYrox8 For pfSense I run Snort and BandwidthD. The purpose of the DMZ is to separate all my web facing servers from my internal server so if they get hacked, they intruder can't get to my sensitive data. If you are hosting game server you should absolutely DMZ them. I would also recommend upgrading to pfSense 2.0 RC3.

  • Whats the make/model of that rack :P it looks perfect for the job!

  • @eihtam1066 Just some utility rack that I bought at home depot. Was like $30.

  • hi CTJoyce, do u have any idea in order to reduce firebox NOISE ?

  • @coucou7863 There are 3 40mm fans in the back as well as the one on the cooler. You can try removing the rear fans (unplug them from power) or swap them for quieter ones. Unfortunately being a 1U box you don't have many options to make it quieter.

  • @CTJoyce

    hi joyce.

i'm about to purchase fan for this fantastic box (x750e).'cause i'have no frozen area in my garage ;-)

what do you think about fan which are designed for 3000 rpm ? (instead of the orginal 10 000 rpm) ?

  • very nice setup, thanks for sharing..

  • Hey it is nice to see another video. It was worth the wait! Another functional and practical update. Nice to have a managed switch huh? ESX is also very fun to play around with, and saves on having tons of servers/racking up the power bill. Props on the pfsense box! pfsense is really pretty amazing. I am using an old celeron, but am considering atom upgrade too. Totally jealous of the 7.5TB BTW. Question. What was the realtek NIC issue? What do you use a DMZ for? Do you work in tech? NICE SETUP

  • @XtR0pX RealTek NICs are software driven instead of hardware driven, so they will sometimes generate watchdog timeout errors when they get overworked. The fix for this was disabling TCP offloading and a few other things. Intel and boardcom NICs don't have this issue. I use the DMZ for a few public web, FTP, vent, and TS servers I run. And yes I work in tech, for a company that does everything from sysadmin to security, to new environment setup or migration.

  • Just wondering, how do you have the hard drives configured on the Black PC (far left)? I got my W2k8 box running, but cant figure out how to do my drives.. I'm assuming theyre all spanned? Any risks with that?

  • @nullx86 The disks are actually in a JBOD so there is no RAID at all. Soon that will be changing (they will go to RAID 5) but I need to buy the card first.

  • @CTJoyce JBOD via Hardware or Software?

  • @nullx86 Basically 7 drives. 6 plugged into the motherboard, 1 plugged into a SYBA SD-PEX40031. They are presented to the OS as individual drives.

  • Cool video. I also have the same rack hah.

  • Nice Setup! Same "rack" that I have hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • @Mist33169 In the Dell there is a Perc4i with the drives in RAID 0, but the fileserver doesn't have a controller card at the moment. The plan is to buy 4 more of the Samgsung F4 drives and probably a HP P410i (or similar) then build a RAID 5. The money for it has been kinda an issue though.

  • @CTJoyce I know what you mean. Money is hard to make now a days

  • what are the specs of the black server on the left

  • @Mist33169

    Case: Thermaltake Matrix

    PSU: OCZ Modstream 700

    Motherboard: Gigabyte P43-UD3R

    Processor: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 (Overclocked to 3.2Ghz)

    RAM: OCZ Reaper 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2-1066
