  • Propz son !!

  • dude i was whatching this while noodling around on my guitar and it inspired a song do u have a vid of this beat without the improv at the end ?

  • dislikes are from people who overquantize their already robotic drums lol

  • how does this have 19 dislikes?

  • Dude

    Beast

  • Nice!!!!

  • Dude... you can really wail.

    Wanna join my band?

  • what kind of crash cymbal is that?

  • super filign exelent sa fait plaisir

  • It looked like the drummer wanted to let his hands go but obviously held back.

  • Good Job, I enjoyed it

  • dude your amazing

  • I love to watch this and I don't even play drums!

  • FIGO!

  • very good drums

  • I put chewing om on my ride ! It really cuts off the unpleasant overtones !

  • dude is it cool if I use the drums as a backing track so I can do abit of slapbass to would be pretty sweet :)

  • nice, might have a go at that!

  • multitask!! Great job man!

  • Hey! You're in the 171 building

  • @HippieDrummer06 Correctamundo!

  • I dont know about the 7 or 9 stroke rolls on the hi hats and ride at the end but I liked your use of ghost notes, very effective, Were on the same wavelength

  • big tings man

  • the distortion sounds so tasty! and damn funky aswell

  • lol i knew i recognized that room. i went to the 2009 berklee percusssion festival

  • good , i liked it!

  • I'm really liking the sampling on this one. Very raw.. reminds of the type of sound on a few of DJ Shadow's tracks. Really digging the groove as well. Nice, man.

  • damn, FUNKY

  • This is some seriously funky shit, dude.

  • Love that warm saturation - sounds lo-fi but still crispy

  • awesome ;)

  • nice funk and skill u got...but how is this like Pete Rock's drum funk? Pete rock uses simple drum patterns

  • @cradleofjohannes not Pete Rock the artist, Pete rock the SONG by D'angelo/?uestlove

  • nice

  • Dope yo!

  • OK- thanks for telling me...I was going to say you could throw a pillow inside the bass drum, but this may not be possible/practical if the outer head is attached...if so, then I think you might be able to do or put something on the outer head (to muffle the boom sound more)...I have e-drums now (after having sold my acoustic set within the last few years), so I can't experiment here...anyway, again, it sounded good...

  • It sounded good...I respect that you might like the "booming" sound to your bass drum - but I thought that adjusting it to a cleaner thud sound could help provide a different dynamic in the overall groove sound...also, I have thought it (perhaps) amazing how using a simple single stroke approach can sound so good just by hitting different pieces (e.g., between hi-hat, snare and ride)...again, it sounded good...keep up the good work...

  • very funky

  • helllllllla sick!

  • yeahhhhhhhh boy

  • spicy stuff man! was jamming to it when i came across your video!

  • dope

  • Dame dude got mad skills

  • dope

    thx

  • Hey dude, whats the snare?

  • I believe it was a Pearl Export, but I'm not positive... it was just a random practice room kit.

  • ayo, you have any Drum solo CD's out?? if Not you should, You can Get Paid Big Time..

  • hesssssss right

  • shit son. i would sample YOU! lol

  • @noodlesoup1998 Shit......Me two

  • Talent...on the breaks...

  • nicw work, expecially the ride along with the ride :)

(and sorry for my english xD)

  • how to play funk drums

  • Props for the coat hanging off the ride, quest would be proud =p

  • Damn straight.

  • this beat sound like the druming in tokio drift the very first song lol

  • yo man left hand lead aint boring at all... i dont actually hear it, i hear the ride on the e's and a's... years ago the best drum teacher i ever went to told me to listen to the hip hop producers drum styles. solid advice.

  • LOL, and to what do I owe this pleasure?

  • nice groove

  • Yea. love the first groove bit and the bit after 2 mins. Sounnnnd as a pound.

  • CHOPS

  • really liked it, nice

  • *bobs head* nasty :D

  • right at 2 minutes is extra nasty.. keep up the practice so you can play that flawlessly and that will be wild good

  • Yo, is this at the practice rooms at Berklee?

  • i like that groove it started a bit boring but it ened really well

  • sweet beat

  • damn i always always wanted to play drums well thanks for posting this. imma study it :)

  • thank you! I understand, why you posted this:-) Excellent blend with ghost strokes and the big drum. Cool playing and entertaining. In other words. No bullshit. Just the real stuff.

  • new to drumming slang, someone tell me what a drum strike is? BTW nice beat!

  • ummm, do you play the drums?

  • good ghost strokes u got man. keep it up.

  • hey what kind of ride are you using?

  • 20" Zildjian A Custom. What Vinnie Colaiuta uses...

  • nice man

  • This is going in my favorites, keep this good grooving going!!!! Keep up the good work!!!

  • Nice groove!!! LOL I wanna sample that kick and snare...

  • wow nice your are crazy!!!

  • Im fellin this...shits of the hook!

  • so sick

  • nice man, but get ur damn jacket or whatever the hell that is, OFF your ride. THATS and A custom. let it ring man

  • I was trying out new things in the practice room.. nothing more, nothing less. I never use a ride this dry when playing with others, and I don't think I've used the coat-on-cymbal trick since this vid, so settle down folks. It is what it is.

  • i agree woth you. im feeling the beat bro. but get that thing off your ride. it's spoiling the sound

  • clyde stubble

  • Great groove, man.

  • nice man.. phat beat

  • Tell me your opinion bout my drumming :) I'd like to have some critisism 'bout it from somebody else than my family and friends. (I've played for a year now and my drum kit is pure suckage, put _I_ think that I've done pretty good progress in my drumming. My friends tell me that aswell.)

  • THIS (!) is cool drumming *N1*

  • GREAT STUFF! :)

  • that ride does sound dry dude....nice bro

  • That groove on the ride was straight funky

  • I can get the bass and snare part of the fundamental groove down, but once i introduce the hi hat its like my mind wont let me play the hihat and bass separately. My body bugs out and i have to play the bass and hihat note at the same time, i guess its from playing easy noobie beats too much, any idea on how i can stop this?

  • pratics

  • nuf respect.. you ill on those drums.

  • It's how he likes it. why should it bother you so much?

  • Why the hell don't you accept peoples kit layouts you twat! He's a good drummer who cares where the fuck his cymbals are!?

  • Yeah, this guy does a pretty damn good job keeping time and you knock him for his cymbal heights?

Seriously, if anything I'd just tell him to let that ride sing a some more, it's a little TOO pingy and raw for me, but hell, that's just my take.

  • nice

  • I am about to make this my ring tone!!! NICE GROOVING!!

  • not too shabby

  • Forgot the haters man, this was dope. Keep it movin.

  • i actually...like the way that kit sounds. its dry like quest would do it.

  • humble and funky...

  • NOw this is drumming! Thanks

  • o no...i know those berklee drum rooms. Nice grooves man

  • Word to your mom!

  • i want to play like youuuuuuu

  • Nice...

  • I don't think it's too "safe" or to "pretty" ...I think there are a million and one funk grooves and this is one. Great groove bro.

  • no its is safe, ill tell you why. cause if you watch the clip again his stickings are always RLRLRLRL,......safe....the only place where he varies this is the hi hat and ride groove near the end.....but he cant play it anyway. this is why its safe and not funky enough....

  • msuotc3, you had me until the "not funky enough" part at the end. Since when does funky music rely on double paradiddles and the like? Besides a few drummers, which makes up about .0001% of the population, who the hell cares whether it's all single strokes or not? It's about the feel, not the technique.

  • No....I think he groove is too safe, too nice and pretty, too not soulful...funk has a solid, in your face feel that makes you want to say...damn that's funky....That ain't happen here...I suggest you check out lil larry, mike clark, Aaron "the clock" Murrell, david "fingers" haynes and clyde Stubblefield...then you'll know what I mean

  • Thanks for the comments. First I'll say Mike Clark is one of my favorite drummers.. I emulate him a lot. But to address your criticism, I would say that funk drumming needs other musicians - a band - to make it come to life. I'm playing a funky pattern, but without the guitarist pushing his rhythm and the keyboardist doing all sorts of syncopations, it becomes hard to create a truly "damn that's funky" feeling. And of course with funk, it's all about the feeling and the soulful sound you create.

  • Hey dude...I am not trying to hate on ya...just giving you a little of my experience...and really...you don't need band to make funk come alive...you just need to understand where true funk is coming from....like latin...funk is best when it's played a little dirty....keep on drumming!!!

  • "funk is best when it's played a little dirty" ...hell yeah. Billy Martin of MMW is my favorite example of this. Ziggy Modeliste too.

  • tight!

  • love d pattern

  • niiiice

  • Work on getting the bass drum hits JUST right. I like how it's groovin already, but it suffers from imprecise kick hits... it will really get heads bobbing and asses shaking once you've perfected it.

  • That's the goal!

  • Thats a cool beat!!!

  • Comprate un buen RIDE

  • cool

  • perfeckt ...

  • SICK.

  • Str8t head bobbin' beatz!

  • i like that, very nice

  • I can do that

  • I'd like to sample that. Sounds nice man.

  • the snare drums sound is so sweet.... god damn.. i can't get my snare to sound good.. it sounds like crap..

  • tighten the crap out of it... till it feels like its gunna pop

  • yh u jst need to tighten it till u think it will rip

dnt make it rip tho lol

i did that afta i woz playin sum1 elses drum at an ice hockey match, got home, sounded gr8

  • nice groove man!

  • You better take care of that kit. Ill be at that school shortly hopefully, banging on that same one!!

What were some of the requirements for your audition

  • Check out the drummer on this cut...Mandrill - Peck ya Neck

  • Damn that is groovey. I sense a groove bone :)

  • Yeah, really nice.

But could ya tell me what did U do with that A custom?

  • It's in the video info... "that's my coat hanging off the ride..I wanted it reeeal dry."

  • dude i love the sound of ur snare...what make is it and what head you got on it?

  • Yeah, by a custom ride is soo bright.

  • i love this beat

  • hey man they were some nice beats, i dont really like the sound of your hi hat that much but it was a nice video all the same. top stuff

  • very nice vid man, really enjoyed that :D

  • nice

  • sounded good

  • yeah man...you got rhythm

  • That was awesome! Great grove! New Drum and Bass cover split screen collaboration

(its funky). Check it out! Let me know what you think!

  • yeah nice. f*ck metal and fast drummers.. funk owns

  • @Bajsaridinmun You said fuck (edited but still you said it) metal and fast drummers.Yea how deep are you ? Fast drummers can mean jazz, rock, punk, pop, metal, funk, etc. So that right there shows your stupidity.I know I'm wasting my time replying to a 3 year old comment but when I see shit like this it annoys me.Some of the best drummers are metal drummers, don't believe me check the rankings of the drummers that are considered as the best.Beyond genre speed shouldn't matter, slow or fast.

  • i like, sounds tight man. i hate when kids think they are good because they can pound a lot of drums really fast (like slipknot drummer, fans of that guy swear he is amazing, i think he's OK just really fast-compare him to somebody like steve smith, steve smith's shit sounds better)

  • Give the drummer some!

  • maaaan :O

    not your desired sound? :O

    i looove the snare !!

love the whole vintage kit !

    awesome

    and your beat :)

  • eh....not bad...u shud just go nutz at the end on the tiny drum set

  • go see the stray cats band!

  • nice groove man, you a student in Berklee?

  • Used to.. dropped out.

  • oh, it's alright. how come?

  • Haha, of course it's alright. The number of successful musicians who "went to" Berklee is the same as those who "graduated from" the place.

I left for a bunch of reasons, but the big ones would probably be that I didn't find a private lessons teacher who I truly respected, and the fact that many of the drummers there are wankers who are studying to become great technicians with lots of chops, and not great musicians. They suck, and they all sound the same.

  • like they all play the same genre and they don't really have their own style or something?

  • this white guy rocks!!!!!

  • hahahahahahaha. One time at a show there was an older black man watching, and afterwards he approached the bassist and I and said in so many words, "man, that was righteous!" ...to this day it's one of the greatest compliments I've ever gotten haha.

  • USE YOUR TOMSSSSSSSS

how much was that ride !?

    sick beat though !!!

  • nice effect on yur ride

  • 0:26.. like the fill

0:32.. backbeat in the right hand makes the groove feel emptyish

0:51.. ugly, I rush that simple pattern for no reason. That's what I call "tripping" over yourself

1:23.. leading up to the fill at 1:29, simple yet effective, my fav part of this video

1:35.. the boring section, I was working on getting comfortable with the inverted Gadd thing

    1:52.. experimentation time!

  • Awesome funky :-P...

  • sick drums... fuckin awesome, skills my friend you have SKILLS.

  • madddd pocket maddd gadd groove maddddddd sweeeeet

  • like the oldskool snare sound, not that i'm much of a drummer

  • Sounds good to me

  • i like the ghost notes at the start

  • Get those 32nds worked out, they were really adding something nice to the beat.

  • Oh, they're all worked out by now.. it was recorded back in May. Plus, I've gotten a lot more comfortable with that inverted Gadd beat. I'll post a follow-up vid sometime.

  • Well in that case, get post it up!

  • Nice.

  • dope.

  • Sick shit

  • bro this is the dank! Sick setup, sick grooves, sick playing, keepin it real, thats how you do it.

  • Don't care that this has so many critical comments, it has a great feel and the fact that you make a few mistakes puts you in the same company as Steve Gadd. Take no notice of these critics, you have a great sound.

    Dave

  • dont do shit to this drumset!

that is one of the illest sounding snares i have ever heard

  • its really nice but i cannot say that it is difficult,,,,
