phylis diller, one of the first successful female comics. a very funny lady, she always made fun of her funny looks....This episode is just what taking care of an alzheimers sufferer is like... I lived this episode 8 years every day taking care of my grandmother. the part about outside people(the students in this episode) thinking your relative is ok because they only see 5 mins. at a time is the bad part, they usually think the caregiver is bad, but you are really only getting by....
They did get this amazingly accurate. My mother in law would go through bouts of not wanting to bathe, which of course made my husband look as though he was neglecting her. If people on the outside only knew how traumatic a bath would be to someone who's disease cause an unreasonable fear of it.
Getting by.. that;s about as accurate a description as I've ever heard for what those caring for an Alzheimer's patient do.
I'm George Washington, Grandma.
