  • Great song...but the unequivically best version I've heard of this is by Jai McDowall on Britain's Got Talent. He was simply unbelievable.

  • Friends, have any of you seen this? Look for "CHESS "Anthem" 1988 original Broadway cast, David Carroll". You'll have to forgive the vid's quality but the audio is faultless :) Enjoy!

  • BLISS. Pure. Bliss!

  • Wow. This is an amazing song. He performed it perfectly. No missed notes, no "Duhs" or "Tuhs" on his D's and T's, perfect dialect, amazing emotion... this man may be the best singer I've ever heard or at least up there.

  • Wonderful version. The emotion he translates makes the performance. How can I leave her....WHERE would I start??? Awesome.

  • what i like about this version, not putting any other people who have sung this down, is that he sings in character

there were words that hew sang where you could just tell that he was this character when he recorded it

    like his "where"s, or "why"s

he really has the dialect down without having it totally control the song, you know?

  • I guess it all comes down to opinion when it comes to Anthem. Personally, I prefer This version. But I respect Korgberg and mcdowall as well.

  • This song brings me to tears. What a track

  • Phantom, you're right about Tommy Korberg's rendition of this song. I just listened to it on YouTube -- and he was awesome. Also check out Jai McDowall singing the song on Britain's Got Talent -- also available on YouTube.

  • i love this song so much that when my printer was broke (meaning i couldnt print out the sheet music) i spent 3 hours transcribing it from screen to manuscript :)

  • @bonsmom yes you really missed the point!

  • "Let mans' petty nations tear themselves apart; My land's only borders lie around my heart!"

Those words could apply to any nation loved by any citizen........this is my favorite version of this song and I apply it to THIS nation....this land of Liberty.

  • @bonsmom I think you've missed the point of the song...

  • @Planxty Really???

    Perhaps you can enlighten me...........?

  • @bonsmom yep!! you've missed the point of the song!! Definately!

  • @thecommentor14595 ......OK, maybe one of the three geniuses can tell me what the point IS !?!?

MY point is that anyone who truly loves his/her country would feel the same and no matter where he/she traveled, his/her homeland would remain dearest in his/her heart. ( kind of like Dorothy in the Wizzard of Oz when she clicked the heels of the ruby slippers together and said "There's NO PLACE LIKE HOME....."! )

It is a beautiful song and the singes has a beautiful voice, just enjoy it !

  • @bonsmom have you ever seen chess! think about this song in terms of the context it is intended! its ridiculous to compare it to the US!

  • @thecommentor14595 Yes, I've seen 'Chess'. I understand your interpretation of the song in the context of the play...........I simply expanded on it.

It REALLY is NOT something to get excited about!!!

  • I sang this song as my last solo performance in choir my senior year in high school...first time i ever seen my singing make a grown man cry.

  • close your eyes and listen and I guarantee you will get goosebumps

  • Chess. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

  • I'm so glad my director is doing this show for the thespians. i feel like this show is an honor to be a part of and that the music needs to be known more. few people can sing as amazing as this man.

  • We love Chess, and this is one of our favorites. His voice is incredible, as is this song.

  • the amount of views for this video saddens me... why is it that this has so few people watch it, and pointless videos like that stupid staring hamster thing have millions... this mans voice was a blessing, that can now only be heard on the precious few recordings available... he deserves better.

  • @thephantom3194 I completly agree. this song was introduced to me by my choir teacher and I love it. It is a shame it has this little views

  • @thephantom3194 Low views because Tommy Körberg sang this song a hundred times better 30 years ago.

  • @thephantom3194

Don't ya know why's that? Some music pieces are for elite. And elite is always in minority.

  • what a beautiful voice!
