Really? Wow...that sucks. A lot. But there is a mod for AVP, AJL, it adds a lot to the game, and they have their own servers. Also, there's a Master Server Mod, which allows people to play online again.

Depends on what server you join. Some servers have life cycle, which means aliens must start as facehuggers, then latch onto someone, THEN play as full aliens. You die, you start over.
