  • i think i saw something come off it

  • @datboiduane as a C5 crew chief i am gonna let you knowthat you sound dumb the M model engine is not the same engine at all as the KC-10 engines the engine on the M model dwarfs that of the KC-10 and to everyone else who loves the TF-39 was a great engine but if apparently none of you have been around them a whole lot cause after working on them for so many years its nice to see them go i love all the new models the sound levels alone make it worth it besides the leaks and mechanical issues

  • @brewmiester13 KC-10 Engines: 3x F103/CF6-50C2 turbofans, 52,500 lb thrust each. Fan Diameter 86.4 inches.

C-5M Engines: 4x F138-GE-100/CF6-80C2 Thrust is derated to 50,000 lb from an available thrust range of 52,500 to 63,500lb. Fan diameter 93 inches.

So the engine is not massively larger but it is larger. Of course compared to the body of the C-5 it looks small.

  • At an air show here in Eugene, OR several years ago, a C-5 and C-141 from Travis AFB were displayed all weekend, at the end of the show, both took off to fly back, but the C-5 turned around and came in for a low fly-by, the TF39s roaring (and sounding like a super-sized vacuum cleaner!) and making everybody plug their ears. A minute or two later, the maintenance people drove along the runway, stopping at several of the light fixtures - the sound/pressure wave from the TF39's broke the globes!

  • Every time I hear Oshkosh i die of laughter, best name ever!

  • 0:12 baby plane... Wait for me Momma! !

  • Now that's what I call thrust. I wonder if they went light on the fuel load to help shorten the takeoff run, or if it had a standard load. Obviously no cargo, anyway.

  • The old engines sure had a distinctive sound. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

  • when i was stationed at ft bragg, we used to watch em take off all the time, seen some with rocket assist, mostly c-130's

  • Hey T-Bone...the Mike really rock and rolls huh?

  • now lets see him do that fully loaded.

  • Awsome plane, but thoes new engines sound like shit.

  • wow imagine coliding with that thing in a cessna 172 or piper... or just coming close to that thing in the air

  • No cargo load, so the plane can take off within a short distance.

  • CHUCK NORRIS WAS THE PILOT !!!

  • @roa1044 Chuck Norris gave it a push.

  • Its because theirs nothing in it.

  • @MADdrummer971 except their possessions.

  • nice video

  • Seems like the wings would be too small to lift that fat body.

  • @Seapaddler @Seapaddler That's what flaps are for. That, and the design of the wing. That's what makes flying so awesome. The science behind flight is so simple, but captivating.

  • @Seapaddler Go to howstuffworks(dot)com and type in "how planes fly". That describes how that big bird got in the air. :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Zero fuel and zero weight. My wife and I flew from Rhein Main to Dover on a loaded one an the takeoff run seem liked forever.

  • @MrMKH2010 Wrong. Not zero fuel, low fuel and no heavy cargo. The biggest difference however is the 200,000lb of total thrust this "M" model has vs the 172,000lb total thrust of the A and B models.

  • no I dont your very insecure, its fake just like you are homie

  • its' all fake not real

  • @mudog35 Uhh...care to explain WHAT is fake?

  • sounds like a KC-10 taking off. oh wait those are KC-10 engines :)

going to miss the whine of the old TF39s. The TF39 sound is so unique, you know it's a C-5 when you hear it.

  • Does somebody saw the UFO at 0:36-0:37 seconds???

  • it sounds like a 747.....

  • They've killed it. It sounds like a generic plane now.

  • Hey thats a Dover bird!

  • I dont think you guys realize how massive this aircraft really is.

  • man, what humans can make is awsome

  • @rturpening then imagine what aliens with more knowledge wisdom and technology can make..... :)

  • love the scream of the engines

  • @Nuckler18221 if you listen closely you can hear them shouting " FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • I LOVE THIS PLANE !!!

  • Excellent full power sound-!

  • 0:13 - Little plane- Wimpy wimpy wimpy. C-5 - HEFTY HEFTY HEFTY

  • Waddles down the runway like a fat penguin---then takes to the sky like a BIG ASS BIRD!!!

  • C-5M better than that old junk the AF had

  • Would've been better with those tf-39s

  • who else was expecting jdams?

  • And if they would have crashed (like the C-17 in Alaska) they would be boo-hooing along with there families.

  • Miss the TF-39s! :(

  • @SSD99 YOU ARE NUTS THEN!

  • @sakoshooter48: Not really. I realize the newer GE power plants provide 22% more thrust, are much quieter than the old TF-39s, and are more fuel-efficient than the '-39s, but I just like the sheer loudness of those '-39s as the plane lumbers by on takeoff.

  • @SSD99 Being a maintenance controller for a fleet of 747's, half with Pratts. the other with GE's, I just cringe at the old bastard TF-39's. I wish I could say something good about them, although they have soldiered on for 40+ years. I personally thinks the Air Force ought to get rid of the four GE's and replace them with two of the GE 90's rated at 115,000 lbs of thrust each, that would give the old airwhale a kick in the ass with power to spare.

  • @sakoshooter48 The wings could not support that kind of power. Would look kool though.

  • @superskullmaster I know, just a thought though!

  • @sakoshooter48: I know. (LMAO) But I still miss the sound, maintenance nightmares and all. I realize the, how did you put it, "old bastard TF-39s" are fuel-hogs, but I still like their sound. :D I like your suggestion of replacing the newer GEs (I don't know their number) with two of the -90s, or how about FOUR of 'em!?!? It would be hilarious to see C5 lift off in less than eight plane-lengths!!!

  • @SSD99 Could you imagine the airwhale with four GE 90's?!?!?!?!?!? Holy Shit Batman, that would make for a combines thrust output of 460,000 lbs/thrust. It wouldn't fly, it would just ravel up the earth and spit it out behind the aircraft!

  • @sakoshooter48: That WOULD be hilarious. 45--degree take-offs with no RATOs!!! (ref; Fat Albert)

  • beautiful bird

  • Be a cool RV for a billionaire.

  • Come on, no rocket boosters?

  • Now what russian plane could beat this.? Even though if they did build one, it'll probably have an engine fire at take off, paint chipping off all the way to their flag, & for sure FMC computer failure LOL

  • @hondacl0n3

    Sarcasm fail.

  • @scarface8999 Its not a sarcasm, its what i think and if you dont like it oh my mistake i want the most likes and might as well show off my gay ass comment comming out of my ass to everyone to see im such a dopey bitch to know that i got shit and you the fag know more than your big ass dick, correct? stfu & gtfo bro dont judge lil assfuck

  • @hondacl0n3

Dude, when did i do half this?

  • @hondacl0n3 Just so you know, now everyone thinks you're retarded.

  • 3 people would rather have a C-5 with older TF39 engines until their eardrums shatter and they become deaf for life...

  • Fat bastard!

  • Hmmm . . . very impressive, I wonder how quick he could get it off the ground if he had 4 GE 90-115Bs hanging under the wings ? ! ? ! ?

  • @GravityFree2001 my thoughts exactly

  • Why are they cheering when it lifts off? Is it not what they expected?

  • I'm guessing the little plane that went by said "Anything you can do, I can do better"...LOL...

  • I don't care if the new engines are cleaner/quieter, the TF-39s will always be my favorite. They're not pussy engines like CF-6, they're loud and violent and they let you know THIS IS A BIG ASS PLANE. At least B-52s can keep it real.

  • @MrJwill919 Yeah i agree with you on that!!! However, the B-52's I've heard are getting newer engines installed.... More fuel efficient, quieter, and supposedly, more thrust... Keep it old school, way better than the newer shit.

  • the engines sound different on this one.

  • shit it's really big

  • I'm liking the light gray paint on the C-5M. I'm glad that they decided to give them a couple of upgrades to keep them flying. It's just one of those planes that everyone holds their breathe until it gets airborne. LOL Anyway, Great vid and Thanks so much for sharing!.

  • some serious wake turbulance there after that

  • Awesome!

  • 20 sec takeoff roll

  • Dover couldn't have sent the one with the nicer paint job?

  • It's just not the same. I miss the unmistakeable TF39 sound. This just sounds lame.

  • YOU CAN MAKE A BRICK FLY IF YOU PUT ON A BIG ENGINES!

  • Oh, thats just wrong, hushkits on a C-5??????

  • @AccessAir New engines - military derivative of the GE CF6-80. Miss the old TF39's, but these have more power, I think around 22% more that the older TF39's.

  • @AccessAir Absolutely....just wrong!!

  • @AccessAir HushKits? The C-5M with the CF6-80C2 eng are the same eng that are in 747, DC-10/MD-11.

  • i miss the old sound :(

  • strap a few small rockets to the wings, it will do quarter mile take off.

  • No, passengers. The 1000 would be a stretched 900 version. It is still uncertain, wether the 1000 will be realized, However the wings are designed to carry it, and it the wingbox there is space reserved for an additional landing gear and fuel. More powerful engines will come inevitably by the time. - Most airlines are much more interested in the 900 or a 1000 than in the actual 800,

  • Also, does anybody know how the C5M compares to the A380 in size? They look pretty close. The A380 definitely has a higher tail. I'm gunna guess that the C5 is probably a little bit longer in length though.

  • @adfgfds

Yes, the the C5 has a bit more overall length and less wing span. But in grossweight and thrust the A380 is of another class, and still having reserves for the 900 or even the 1000 version.

  • @Caboclo999

Whats the 1000 version suppose to be? Freight? I've heard of the 900 version.

  • I like the video because the small as planes that are also caught in the footage really give you the idea this thing is fucking huge.

  • obviously empty and light on fuel!!

  • thumbs up for the Piper Pacer @:14

  • Amazing take off! Great video!

  • Now let's let the Miserabalmuslims outdo this. As far as I'm concerned, they can all rot in their hell. May they live their "lives" in the hell on Earth they wish upon us all. I fucking HATE them. May they burn in their stupid sandpits. Am I "racist?" It's not about race! It's about Satan! We need to use "radiation therapy," in order to "cure cancer." Here me, Islam? Die you suicidal Earth hating bastards! Yes! I HATE YOU! Go die in your HELL! You are NOT welcome in the West! FUCK YOU! DIE!

  • @soco13466 the hell does this have to do with a C-5?

  • @rambothegreat18 Because c5's carry our troops to fight the war aginst those miserable slobs.

  • This is a great airplane and a vital national asset. Despite the C5s troubled history, it deserves the avionics and engine upgrades.

  • Or maybe this whole idea would be just too expensive. Anyways, great video done on a great aircraft. Thanks for sharing! :)

  • Impressive, but why can't Lockheed do for the C-5 what Boeing has done for the new 747-800? Can building a larger version of the same type of aircraft with modern design features be done with the C-5? A new wing design with an increased wingspan providing more surface area for greater lift to go with those more powerful engines and a stretched fuselage for increased payload very much like what Lockheed did for the C-141B. In my opinion, this new Galaxy can truly be called the "Super" Galaxy.

  • great video! Great plane, even with the new engines.

  • Didn't melt the runway or make you deaf?

  • UAUUUUU!!! PODEROSOOOO!!!!

  • Damn, that hurt my ears. I've never been to the EAA show and I only live about 90 mins south of there. I guess I'm missing a great time, huh?

  • that single engine prop plane was actualy blown off the taxi way at :16 but it was just out of range of the camera...

  • so long sweat old whining galaxy sound!

  • Plus the C-5M / C-5B are the Biggest Military Cargo Aircraft in Service. AN-124 /AN-225. are bigger but Not Active in military Transport. They do Civil Jobs and Move stuff for the US but the C-5M is still the Best. and Hold 41 World Records as of Sept 13(?) or 20th idk. but as of last year. 41 World Records

    WooT!

  • xz-852? Never heard of it at all.. No Info On the net at all. soo stop trying to be a no it all and Just Enjoy the clip. cus we all do !

  • Great clip!

  • the biggest military cargo plane was the xz-852 made for japanese airforce and was built in 2007 and they are using now...they been built more than 200 they will use for aiding military supplies in korea if will gonna war..

  • hmm, my minds eye is telling me this guy is full of shit...

  • @helmetBETTY HU? wth?

  • I haven't had the opportunity to go to Oshkosh yet, but it's about 90 mins north of me and I plan on doing it in the near future.

  • no doubt my people...anchor chains, train whistles and jet engines are 3 of the best sounds in the world. the ugly an-225 maybe the largest, but Miss Galaxy' will always be the finest....OUTSTANDING

  • What was more amazing than the takeoff was the spiral climb they did. They kept the same deck angle and climb rate for a few minutes, spiraling to the left, must have levelled off at fl20. Really amazing.

  • Awesome power, a new breath of life for this giant.....but now it sounds like a 747. No more distinct, turn your head "look its a C-5 Galaxy" sound of excitement.

  • I know what you mean! I miss hearing the occasional DC-10 RR engines at DFW...ah well, needed to be done!

  • holy dam...thats super rare. A DC-10 wit Rolls Royce engines. But yea you're right.....it needs to be done.

  • Alas, that's the only big downside to the C-5M--it now sounds exactly like a CF6-80 powered 747-400. :-( And it may become even quieter 10-15 years from now when we may see the possibility of the GE GENx engine fitted to the C-5M as part of their next life extension program.

  • i dont see why Lockheed jus doesnt built a newer, bigger, better C-5....

  • @6V92TA Maybe because there isn't a government contract, to design something... When it comes to military aircraft, "To be fair" the government will put out a request for an aircraft, with all the perimeters they would like the aircraft to do. Then interested companies will submit bids, if they get approved for the bid, they get money, from the government, to develop the aircraft, then after there is an aircraft. the government will pick one.

  • @6V92TA

True. However the new A380 sounds just like the old C5 engines :3

  • @adfgfds

True, but the GE90-115B produce in excess of 130,000lbs of thrust now. lol

I tried to get the Air Force to run the GE90's but they were insisting the CF6-80C2 powerplants… They are more Fuel Efficient, and produce 50% more thrust. And to top it off, the New C5M engines are Derated…..by nearly 15%

  • Comment removed

  • @PaganEgyptian

Where did you pick up that information? Thats interesting.

  • @PaganEgyptian The GE90 has actually broke 140,000lbs of thrust but GE will not release it officially, because it has not been certified. The only reason the USAF did not use the GE90 is because of cost, or it would have. And according to the figures last obtained, the derating is by 15,000lbs of thrust each, not 15%, it is closer to a 30% derate.

  • @6V92TA Yes, the C-5's size plus the "original" sound of the engines was enough for a happy ending....

  • @StellarBlue1 Right it was. It would have been nice if GE could have upgraded the TF39s or atleast made those CF6s to sound like the TF39s.

  • @StellarBlue1 You and I know that the Galaxy could always use updates..she is an old girl now.. If the new engines are an improvement (and they are) you and I will just have to remember "the good old days".

  • i dont see anybody else with a capable plane like the C-5 cept the Russians. Stop hate'in dude!

  • 86000013. Fairly good aircraft.

  • Airborne in 21 seconds.

  • it is a Short Take off, but that is not as short as it could have been. No run up of N2 before letting off the brakes. Now That would have been sweet! But of course, we have to ACT like only a C-17 can do stuff like that.

  • Shame the sounds distorted!!! Nice though.

  • It was loud. Jammed the mic.
