The reason the R movie is the most beloved of the Sailor Moon movies is due to the emotion portrayed in all of the characters.

Literally everyone(exept Kisenian, but she doesn't count) That is there during the final battle, is in tears at least once in the movie. It really shows how they all are connected to each other and especially Usagi. If you look closely, even Mamoru cries a little at her revival.

I always cried to this movie as a child. I didn't realize until now how depressing it was, for Fiore. Boy makes friends for first time in his lonely unearthly existence, is so thankful he travels the universe, for the next so many years, just to find the perfect gift. The gift is an evil bitch in disguise who brain washes him. Boy's friend doesn't end up remembering him. Boy ends up giving his life to save his only friend's girlfriend. ;_ ;

I love the people at Sailormooncenter for releasing many of the episodes and movies on crystal clear R2 DVD, and putting so much hard work into doing so. I really appreciate their efforts.

But I am sorry... their subtitling DESTROYED this scene. There's 3 layers of unnecessary text all over the screen (all of them dedicated to the song lyrics), and they're crapping out sparkles and flowers all over the freaking screen.

It's a huge distraction from watching what's on the screen.

but if you want to count things that could have killed her until she was saved, you can count this scene in the R movie, having her heart crystal taken, having her dream mirror shattered, having her star seed removed (twice), potentially the S movie... but I don't think close calls count.

I suppose you can also count her death on the Moon Kingdom in the past, before she was reborn as Usagi.
