We call these areas furnishings & it turns golden.The dogs back also turns a shade of dark "steel blue" This is called breaking It has nothing to do with the hair breaking off or splitting. It means color is starting to "break through at the roots." The older the dog is when this process starts the better the color of the coat.

When the yorkie grows they change colors. The colors fade. The puppies are Black and Brown. As adults they turn any of the following Colors.
Black and Tan
Black and Brown
Grey and Tan
Grey and Brown
Blue and Gold
Blue and Tan
Blue and Brown
Red and Brown (Chocolate)
White and Brown, some black (Parti-Colored, now called a "Biewer Terrier"
