Hey Marty or anyone else I play straight into a PA system with my acoustic. Does anyone have any suggestions for a type Of Direct box to get a DI box so i can help my signal and make it clearer???
Marty, something I want to learn, it's more about the nstrument itself, how do you protect your strings of oxidating? I have an strat and a acoustic and my string are aways oxidating so quickly, like one month and it's done. What I can do to protect them a lil bit more?
I understand about sentamental guitars i have my grandfathers gibeson e 150 ser 117 its probably the oldest electric gibson and i have the amp that came with it i just had it restord and will never get rid of it thanks for all the lessons tom brennan tom_deb@sympatico.ca

On Monday I toured the Martin guitar factory, what an amazing place. If you are ever in the Philadelphia area, you have to check it out. The tours are free!!! While I was there I got to play one of these DCPA3's... it plays beautifully. It was amazing to see how much is done by hand and the level of craftsmanship that goes into them. They said that the average Martin guitar takes 3 months start to finish. Marty, I will send you a few pics from where your guitar was made.

Marty ... you bought new Martin ... I also bought new Martin ... :) ... but mine is a lot cheaper ... its DX1 ... but hey ... its a Martin ... love it so much
After many of Marty's lessons, I decided to upgrade my acoustic so I bought a Martin DC-16RGTE eight months ago and I love it. It also has the aurora pickup in it. Can't say enough good things about that guitar.
Marty .. I just bought a second acoustic as did you .. a Martin (new DX1R) .. dreadnaught .. (I have had my Guild D-35 for 20 years) .. when I got the Martin home I noticed it did not have a strap button .. just the hole .. when I noticed it I called the store .. they said, "that is normal .. you have to add the strap button" ... is that true ? Also any tips on type to use to add or how ?
Almost goes without saying but I will > you are like fantastic .. like a guitar buddy !
my dad has an amazing Taylor 414ce and he lets me play that sometimes. Maybe he will pass it down to me, until then, my 30 year yamaha 340-g, also his will have to do -___-
I was messin with our Praise leader at our church last Sunday, he was saying his guitar was going out of tune and I told him sell that Taylor and buy a Martin (like me) and it would stay in tune. LOL The other guitarist, who sells Taylor said yea, but you have to play those Martins. LOL We all had a good laugh. I love my Martin HD-28. I really didn't like the new series as much. Don't get mr wrong, every guitar for every person but I think you get more pure guitar with the traditional Martins
enough of this acoustic guitar shit man get some new electric songs in by modest mouse float on system of the down songs man come on thumbs this up so marty can see it and if u agree with me
You're an awesome guy Marty. You just seem like a genuinely nice person. I hope to see you sometime in my life because I have a feeling that you have lots of interesting stories to tell.
a lot of artists use one mic for the guitar and another one for the voice when playing in gigs but normaly they play bossa nova but u could try that too.

Course I'm just starting to play so my opinion probably doesn't mean a whole lot, but figured I'd throw it out there.
Marty can you give tips on how to reduce feedback on stage? I use three pedals one is a noise suppressor and it helps a little but I still get a lot of feed back. I know the basics like now stand close and or facing your amp but do you know any equipment or any other tips to help?

@sawyerbobby European and Sitka Spruce are most common for topwoods today. While European Spruce is more brittle, but is richer in overtones and has a very clear tone color which is ideal for fingerpickers. Sitka is more springy and has a more rounder, warmer tone which is ideal for flatpickers. Brazilian rosewood is typically the choice for sides and backs. It's brittle, but is very acoustically live. Maple backs muffle the reverb and is ideal for jazz and bluegrass. Hope this helps!

@sawyerbobby Typically Mahogany (as well as Koa) is highly variable in their physical properties compared to rosewoods and maples. The denser the Mahogany the more it will ring (like rosewood), while the lighter and looser the wood is, it will sound more mellow and somewhat muted. With necks and fingerboards what's most important is how it's cut (strait grained, without irregularities) and not so much on what type of wood it is. Even though it's cheaper, rosewood makes a better bridge than ebony
@sawyerbobby Yeah, it can get very complicated and this is just the beginning. There's different bracing systems, the guitar shape, bridge placement, voicing the face, yada yada yada... I'm in the process of building my own guitar and bought a few books on the dynamics and physics of it. Prior to this I was completely clueless. It's not just a box made out of wood it turns out :)
Hey wassup, Marty! Yep Martin make some beautiful guitars. But way expensive for most of us :-( Any chance you could review a few good cheap acoustics for us plebs on a budget who want to make a change from electric ? Pretty please?
Soo weird. I just played my first Martin the other day at a Guitar Center, instantly fell in love, and have been obsessing over them ever since....and now this video. I think it's a sign....a sign that I should have one ;) What beautiful beautiful guitars Martin makes. No wonder they're so legendary.....and expensive, heh.

@cbennz514 this is the specs of my guitar: Top: Solid Sitka spruce
Back and sides: Nato (eastern mahogany)
Neck: Nato
Fingerboard and bridge: Rosewood
I play from finger picking to strumming, what do you think?
sawyerbobby 7 months ago
@sawyerbobby Typically Mahogany (as well as Koa) is highly variable in their physical properties compared to rosewoods and maples. The denser the Mahogany the more it will ring (like rosewood), while the lighter and looser the wood is, it will sound more mellow and somewhat muted. With necks and fingerboards what's most important is how it's cut (strait grained, without irregularities) and not so much on what type of wood it is. Even though it's cheaper, rosewood makes a better bridge than ebony

@cbennz514 this all a bit complicated but thanks,i gotta look up all this stuff
sawyerbobby 7 months ago
@sawyerbobby Yeah, it can get very complicated and this is just the beginning. There's different bracing systems, the guitar shape, bridge placement, voicing the face, yada yada yada... I'm in the process of building my own guitar and bought a few books on the dynamics and physics of it. Prior to this I was completely clueless. It's not just a box made out of wood it turns out :)

@cbennz514 i know about the fret affecting sound, but other than that meh.... you're making your own guitar? i wanna see a finished product video!
