but still they used the 3800 for close to 20 yrs and it gets goodish mpg. also before i got a car i called 10 mechanics and everyone recomeded the 3800. i have a 94 regal with a 3800 and crusing at 75 i still got 30/31 mpg.
oh i know the 3800 is bullitproof. all i'm saying is that when you put in a car that large, it's true performance potential isn't realized. i drive a crown victoria lx and even that is underpowered i think.
i have a top swapped 3800 in my 96 lesabre and my 0-60 is around 6. even before i top swapped it i was still runnin sub-8. for an old lady car and being a front wheel drive v6 that things definently not underpowered. and do you have a 302 in your crown vic?
Your talken about the crown vics LOL. the 5.0's were slower than the 4.6's. the 5.0 only had like 180hp. and yea the 3800 is about the same as the 4.6L. Thats is when the 4.6 is in the crown vic.
the 5.0's came stock with 130 or 150 depending what year. you could crank a hell of a lot of power out of them though with some tweakage and some simple mods
really? 130 or 150? I thought they had the same out put as the mustang engines in those years. I know how much you can get out of a 5.0 on one of my friends has a 92 mustang limited with a shit load of work done to it. The car does not even have that distinctive Mustang sound, it just sounds meen.
@TInoGS it was very short lived. i thought it would be cooler than it actually was. haha when i added the supercharger my computer completely freaked out and it had no idea what was wrong with the engine so i just went back to stock
Wow you forgot to do your research. You would've definitely needed to swap the PCM as well. Along with a few wires added or a harness off another suitable car.
@TInoGS yeeah i know. if i ever get enough time, i wanna take the engine, transmission, wiring harness, and computer out of a 06-08 GTP. that would be a sick buick
@chevcamaro6769 I agree. I have a 92 and I've cranked 35mpg out of mine. K&N, high flow flowmaster and syn oil does the trick nicely. Damn shame they got rid of the 3800, a direct injection series IV would have been very intriguing.
i got a ? if u dont know it doesnt matter i got my 2000 buick lesabre custom up that fast up until a month ago but now wont stay in its last gear so when i floor it it hits 100 and thats it. have any sugestions what went wrong?
There may be some sediment build up in your pressure-control solenoid. You just need to flush you tranny and refill it. That should solve the problem. It was very common with the 2000-2002 LeSabre. Hope that helps, PEACE
lol 90mph in 2nd gear

i have a 94' lesabre. it weighs 3,600 lbs and only 170 horses. the 3800 is good and works well with the heavy car.
raptorscatch11 9 months ago
under powered ? 165 is pleanty for a 3000 pound car but no really high flow cat and injector ket all you need smoke hondas all day
johncrf150 1 year ago
@johncrf150 The newer ones like this have the series 2, which makes 205 hp.

My crown vic was an '06 with the 4.6L. I have since traded it for a Grand Prix GT!
supreme2005 2 years ago
ohh gotcha. haha when you said lx for some reason the old ones automatically came to mind. what engine do you have in your gt?

@supreme2005 Underpowered? Nah, 205 is plenty for a 3 thousand something pound car. More is good, but I wouldn't qualify it as underpowered.
