actually once you are an adult it takes a loooooooong time to acquire a different accent, and even then it's quite rare. I know someone from canada who has lived here for 50 years and her accent is still as strong as ever, not one hint of british in it at all!

If you're an American living in England for almost a decade, with a husband who speaks with a very thick British accent, and you surround yourself with other Brits as well on a daily basis, you're bound to pick up on that accent, a little bit! Since her divorce last year, she's spent more time in the US again and you can tell that her Detroit accent is slowly coming back. By the way, I think she looks a bit like Sarah Jessica Parker here (which ain't a bad thing) :D

I knew for myself I loved Madonna since I was born and still love her today. She is an inspiration and I take great pride in living a life that got me this far, giving somewhat thanks to her. I been following Madonna and her work along with her marketing strategies. She sure does think highly of herself. Great business woman yes however, when it came to acting she could never step outside of herself to be someone else. She cares greatly about what it filmed since once captured it lasts for eternity. Linguistically, I am fascinated by her attempts of altering her English speach patterns depending on the situation or stage presence. Sometimes it seems a bit forced than natural.

As a Linguist. Many people don't understand the accent she is going for. It is actually an American Mid Atlantic accent. It was used my American stage actors until the 60's. Just proper American English and still exists in the Upper crust Americans. Kelsey Grammer...or Frasier Crane is a good example of this. Google wikipedia...very helpful as well. :)
