judging from the sound, it's actually a live performance w/o lip synching, so that's very cool. they didn't go for a Beatles thing to progress musically, but they certainly were a boy band of the seventies, along with David Cassidy, Bobby Goldsboro, Partridge Family, Leif Garret etc. we've has inSync and Backstreet Boys - but now we have Rebecca Black and "Friday" - it's a lot of fun too, actually! :-)

Ironically they performed this song on Howard Cosell's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, a prime time variety hour on ABC not to be confused with NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE which premiered that same season. (Before Cosell's show was cancelled, NBC had to call their show "NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT")

i worked 3times for the rollers at NEWCASTLE CITY HALL steward "youngest"....late 1974 to 1977....thay say the rollers couldn,t play...but i heard them practice and sound check and thay were mint....also met my wife at the 75 consort...been together ever since...god them lads have alot to answer for Ha Hur.....

However, they actually appear to be able to play live, unlike all the new boy bands and pop singers that we have today. And, with no pitch-correction software, either!

I admit I get a bit nostalgic when I hear this, though. I really miss the '70's. It was a great time to be alive. Well, except for disco! ;-)

Actually, for those of of who experienced the 70's as kids, the Saturday morning shows were the bomb!

tees you are DEAD wrong this video is definately NOT lip synching. Yes they did on some tv appearances but compare this perfomance and this is the only one u can hear the crowd and the singer breathing heavy from shouting.

Actually, the lead vocal sounds like it might have been doubled (overdubbed) after the fact. It's common practice in live recording. Still love the song, though!

The BCR were the first band to play on the first ever Saturday Night Live with sports commentator Howard Cosell as the shows host when it was first televised on ABC televsion on prime time. Others guests were several unemployed/fired MLB managers sing a song about there firing blues. Long live the 70's.

The Bay City Rollers, who are actually from Edinburgh, Scotland, had their lst and only #1 in the USA with "Saturday Night" in January, 1976.

"Rollermania" was in full swing during 1975-76, but, after their last top-10 hit "You Made Me Believe In Magic" in 1977, "Rollermania" had ended, and the BCR were never the same.

Big Jim Sullivan use to sit with Eric and Woody on that show, for a few minutes each week, and show youngsters basic chords, and it was a great idea, ( got me into playing that's for sure! ) Jim Sullivan wasn't their to teach The Rollers, but there to explain basic guitar VIA Eric and Woody, not to teach them you pillock! In fact both Eric and Woody, were both pretty competent guitar players, especially for there then young ages!
