judging from the sound, it's actually a live performance w/o lip synching, so that's very cool. they didn't go for a Beatles thing to progress musically, but they certainly were a boy band of the seventies, along with David Cassidy, Bobby Goldsboro, Partridge Family, Leif Garret etc. we've has inSync and Backstreet Boys - but now we have Rebecca Black and "Friday" - it's a lot of fun too, actually! :-)

The Scots have given us these guys and Haggis. At least they did give us Sean Connery 'cause otherwise they would have three strikes! LOL
However, they actually appear to be able to play live, unlike all the new boy bands and pop singers that we have today. And, with no pitch-correction software, either!
I admit I get a bit nostalgic when I hear this, though. I really miss the '70's. It was a great time to be alive. Well, except for disco! ;-)
OMG Leslie leaves me breathless....He is so awesome in this!!! I don't think the police are having much fun controlling the audience...but hey we are having loads of fun watching this.....LOL!
That was great! I did get to see them live when I was a kid, they played our county fair. They were my favorite group, and Ian was my favorite member. I see that's Pat in this video, but that's ok...he's cute to. Thank you so much for the post. I feel like I'm 11 again. lol

gotta love a band that plays live and still manages to perform the songs they are known for well.i rediscovered this one when "so i married an axe murderer" X years ago. saw them in seattle in the 70's, they were 'warm up' for the osmonds (the REAL draw for me at the time), and i remember thinking Rollers were very good!

My teenage sister had her entire wall PeeChee'd with Tiger Beat magazine pics including frosted contact paper. All I can say is THANK GOD these homos went out of style along with Shaun Cassidy, Captain & Tenille, and Leif Garrett.
Boy, they were cute as anything, weren't they?! I beat their albums to death, yes I did! ...and of course I named my cat Derek, after my favorite Roller :) (he's no longer my favorite... he's sorta... creepy, now!) if it was now? I'd pick Leslie, definitely. but not "now" Leslie, "then" Leslie!
Well, I've been tryin to cut back on my drinking lately...I thought I'd watch this to pick me up...sorry to say, i puked into the garbage can. Then I went in my room and drank down a full bottle of smirnoffs, thank you bay city rollers.
Isn't Les just about the sexiest thing you've seen? My room was covered with their posters many moons ago, and my heart STILL flutters when I see them!
those "boys" are now 55 year old men ... no doubt they've changed...how much have changed over the last 30 years ... some comments like this are just so ridiculous
I am so happy that there's Youtube where I relive these memories-- just came from seeing Shaun Cassidy videos! My cousin bought a "BCR Love Kit" from Tiger Beat and she never got it. I still remind her! :-)
That what it was all about, the positive energy, the simplicity, the joy of life... Not like nowadays cr...p! Just love it, wish they reunite one day.
LOL! I remember the hair these guys had and boy they loved stretchy pants with huge bell bottoms! Yeah this was the bubblegum of the 70's all the young girls loved these guys!
Damn this brings back some memories. The hell with Saturday Night, I remember Saturday morning waiting for The Krofft Superstar Hour with the Bay City Rollers to come on. lol
Wow - such energy and raw excitment. Brings back vivid memories of the 2x I saw the Rollers in concert. The Rollers were great - def. the FIRST of the BEST of the boy bands. Love 'em.
The BCR were the first band to play on the first ever Saturday Night Live with sports commentator Howard Cosell as the shows host when it was first televised on ABC televsion on prime time. Others guests were several unemployed/fired MLB managers sing a song about there firing blues. Long live the 70's.
The Bay City Rollers, who are actually from Edinburgh, Scotland, had their lst and only #1 in the USA with "Saturday Night" in January, 1976.
"Rollermania" was in full swing during 1975-76, but, after their last top-10 hit "You Made Me Believe In Magic" in 1977, "Rollermania" had ended, and the BCR were never the same.

thank you so much- not only for the great video, but also the opportunity to see that there are still rollermaniacs around! Old rollermaniacs never die they just roll on.
Its not a good idea. Not a good idea to go at all. All they will think and talk about is the Good Old Days that never were. Move on.I finished HS and never talked to them since.
Well, I went to the HS reunion and I wore my Bay City Rollers T-shirt and everyone I spoke to said it brought back such good memories. Someone went to the DJ and he played some Rollers and I think that I'm the reson for it.
What would the world be like today if the rollers didn't come into out lives and save us? If only the rollers would come run for president and do the same for the world as they did for us. SATURDAY NIGHT
Thanks for the posting! And be sure to check out the YouTube search THE ROLLERS SHOW. It's the Nick Lowe song with pics of the Bay City Rollers and it rocks!! Rollers Forever!!! thanks.
wow, I got to go to see them at the Santa Monica civic in a limo with backstage passes my friend won us on KIIS fm. We thought we would be killed for them in the audience.
2nd time in Anaheim another friend passed out and we all got to meet them again in the medical hold. Good times..........I feel old!
AM 42 and remember attending my first concert at 10 with a friend and her older sister, I still have the drum sticks Derek threw into the audience...another world, another time, what a great time it was!
I am now 45 and seeing this really does take me back in time. Many thanks to the rollers for giving us some great songs. And Les we all know that those cheating sods at the record companies still owe you lots of money, to this day they have not paid.
I'll be 45 in about three weeks myself, and Saturday Night was definitely one of those records that takes me back to those fun, carefree days of my early teens!
Just went 30 years back in time. Did I really loved this guy? Oke the music is good, better then the crap today with halfnaked people. I admired them especially cause I've read they were only drinking milk and no alcohol.:-) N
WOW.. a blast from the past.. The Bay City Rollers were the first band I seen in concert, at the tender age of 10.. I loved them and was in love with Woody, lol..
Big Jim Sullivan use to sit with Eric and Woody on that show, for a few minutes each week, and show youngsters basic chords, and it was a great idea, ( got me into playing that's for sure! ) Jim Sullivan wasn't their to teach The Rollers, but there to explain basic guitar VIA Eric and Woody, not to teach them you pillock! In fact both Eric and Woody, were both pretty competent guitar players, especially for there then young ages!
LOVE THE ROLLERS AND THEIR MUSIC! THIS VID SHOWS "ROLLERMANIA" IN FULL SWING. WEREN'T THEY BANNED FROM PERFORMING IN THE U.K. AND WEREN'T THERE RIOTS IN AUSTRALIA? ROLLERS FOREVER (with the small exception of pat mcglynn...yuck) THANKS FOR POSTING THIS! WELL DONE!!!
@ABAYCITYROLLERMANIAC now, usually i agree with your taste 110%, but Pat McGlynn is no small exception and I, for one think he's absolutely perfect in every way-guess who MY favorite is, Tim?!!!
@jennilu123 Sorry. Didn't mean to step on any toes. But for me, I love the "classic" line-up of Alan, Derek, Eric, Woody and Les. I didn't want Alan to quit and I certainly didn't think he should/could be replaced. Then this interloper arrived on the scene, Ian. And then the replacement was replaced. Just my opinion. Later...
someone in the "business" needs to clean up the audio and release this on DVD...the whole concert!!! Les' vocals aren't too bad, but the rest of the music sounds muddy!! If they fix this video, it WILL sell!!
I was never able to see them live, so it's a gereat treat to see this clip. I would have given anything to see them in their heyday. Rollers 4ever!!!!
les and the legenery bcr came to our little local club in australia we partied on with them they were awesome especially les so friendly imagine this 30 years ago when we were madly in love with all, watching this brings it all back how big they were
I am a long time fan of The Rollers. Last year I got the chance to see Ian Mitchell and his group AKA The Bay City Rollers in person. "Saturday Night" is just one of my favorites by The BCR. They are still one the greatest groups ever! Thanks for posting the video!
Fuck, how did I miss THIS?! I thought I was pretty regular checking youtube for new Roller videos, but I have overlooked the best of them all! How do I own this? The screaming, the energy... this is AMAZING!
This is the best. Seeing them live in concert shows what great performers they were. Much more raw and energetic than the canned TV stuff they had to do for marketing purposes.
Good to see Pat on the clip. He is still cuuuuute. (I loved him to death!) Apparently it was a live stage in Japan. Coool. Thanks for sharing. I went to their Nagoya's back then. :)

I know that it's currently in fashion to talk smack about the 70's, but the 80's and 90's were much worse in regards to this society in general.

They used to get extremely basic guitar lessons from Big Jim Sullivan on their shang a lang T.V show and they still couldn't play. How embarrasing.
tomgaf 4 years ago

Later...

I think this was recorded in Japan. I can see the Japanese gal audiences...I wonder if my sis was one of them...lol she was crazy for them!!

someone in the "business" needs to clean up the audio and release this on DVD...the whole concert!!! Les' vocals aren't too bad, but the rest of the music sounds muddy!! If they fix this video, it WILL sell!!

I remember as a kid pushing my sister's 8-track into the player and replaying this thing nearly every day along with Styx and Boston.

The screaming, the energy... this is AMAZING!
jacklovejoy 4 years ago
This is the best. Seeing them live in concert shows what great performers they were. Much more raw and energetic than the canned TV stuff they had to do for marketing purposes.

Good to see Pat on the clip. He is still cuuuuute. (I loved him to death!) Apparently it was a live stage in Japan. Coool. Thanks for sharing. I went to their Nagoya's back then. :)
