But to argue that we are better than MDs in everything else is ridiculous. Those guys may pay the same amount of $ that we do, but they have a lot more training and see far more patients than we do during training. Blind faith in a profession can be damaging. I would never get an OD if I could do it over. It was a huge waste of $. My videos tell why.

If a skin cancer or a papilloma has to be removed, a punctal plug inserted, a chalazion given an intralesional injection of corticosteroid or excised, etc...we do these basic surgical procedures. We are primary eye care providers, and we cover all the basics, just as a Family Practice doc does. Glaucoma, infection, trauma..

I retired, got bored, moved to another area of the state, and started over later the same year. I would sell out again in 1998.
For those ODs who have financed undergrad, then grad school, and then want to work part time...yes, they'll have debt for a long time to come. Not advisable. Ditto for those in most any medical field. Debt is not occupation-specific fool!

Now, if you're talking about someone like me, male, private solo practice started cold, then the average becomes 140-170k a year after established. Now that is average, dickhead. This means there will be those of us who are on the higher end of the curve. I was netting 375k when I sold my first practice in 1993. Home paid off, free-standing building paid off.

Optometric physicians complete 4 yrs of undergraduate study, culminating in a bachelor's degree in a variety of advanced health sciences. Optometry school consists of another 4 years of post-graduate, doctoral study concentrating on both the eye & systemic health.

While I don't doubt that you need such help, the fact remains that most MDs do not treat ED or even hypertension. Most MDs are specialists who will send you to your PCP for systemic therapy.

Surgery: Now, if you yourself were a physician, you'd realize that few physicians do surgery. Minor surgery...that's a different matter, many do this, including optometrists. If a skin cancer or a papilloma has to be removed, a punctal plug inserted, a chalazion given an intralesional injection of corticosteroid or excised, etc...we do these basic surgical procedures. We are primary eye care providers, and we cover all the basics, just as a Family Practice doc does. Glaucoma, infection, trauma..

That way I could look sort of look doctor-like, but that occupation only takes a few months to learn, instead of the 5 years of undergrad and 4 more years of Optometry School (that's right dipstick, count 'em up, 9 years). So you chose the later route and have been jealous of ODs ever since. You poor poor poor dumb bastard!

Bad info on this video. Optometrists ARE physicians that diagnose and treat eye disease. They do minor surgical procedures, prescribe drugs, and therefore are considered "optometric physicians." BAD VIDEO!
