i play bass clarinet and it was just me and a bari sax for low woodwind and low brass lots of pressure we did great lots of solos at begging and was the best song i ever played
i play this at a number of concerts.... we have guns and cannons in it.... the guns are right behind me as i'm a baritone.... i hate it playing 1812 as a result.. XD ahh well
@NcHaley That's not gonna be good.... A piece of like this needs immense amount of musicianship. I don't think a 7th grade band is cut out to play a piece like this. Its especially hard because the beginning string part is replaced by brass. While strings are easy to tune, brass has extremely difficulty staying in tune and for a 7th grade band... oh god
Agreed. It's also incumbent upon the conductor/director to make up for that in timing - first you get the brass trying to make up for a string section to open - and then almost always, the band director sets a metronome and plows through it to further reduce the thickness, nobility. Anyway, some guts were cut out of this as noted above - and those guts are tough to play on single reeds and low brass -I did the cello part, and a month later trying to do some of those licks on Tuba - forget it.
transitions are a little off i think its where my school band has a pyramid to help the 1st change in tempo and something sounds different from the way my school band plays it at 2:13
wait this is a high school band? more like middle school. we played the same arrangement in seventh grade, and were better, but your one of the bettter ones ive heard online
Your band, especially the the low reeds and trombones need to learn how to tune. Unfortunately this version cut out some of the best woodwind solos in the piece, other than of course the oboe solo. For a high school you did a decent interpretation of it.
Back at Roseville Middle School, in Ohio, we had very few people in band. We had a grand total of 8 band members. There was just one of each instrument, except drums. If you made a mistake, everyone knew it. We played this piece. We didn't play it as well as these guys and girls did, but we did the best we could with only 8 people. It was my first year playing the trombone, which in my opinion, carries a big part of this song. Big pressure. Great job, guys.
I was gonna like this video but then i got an arrow to my knee...

During the fast part Trombone/Baritone has a fairly difficult part. Those high Eb aren't as easy as they seem.

I love this song a lot... but.... some of the notes were flying off key and in some parts our 7th grade band did better....
But for the most part it was filled with good camera shots and some nice sections of a wonderful piece. Good job filming this, and of course:
Youtube needs an easier way to find the entire version of the song! (as a band arrangement)

Urghhh.... there's no brass section where they do the descending line one after another.... It's one of the coolest parts...

@mukraf we played a shorter version, .

@mukraf actually some 7th grade bands are cut out out to play this. My 7th grade band is playing this and we are better than some high school bands.

They took so many parts out of this fifteen minute piece; it's really not the same.
blaze14220 2 years ago
this song just isn't the same without percussion. I keep waiting for the cymbals and timpani.
ambroom 2 years ago
The timpani is definitely there, at least for the last 15 seconds of the piece, which is the only part I listen to.

can you look at your music and see who this was arranged by? John Higgins? I know it was composed by Tchaikovsky but who arranged it?
