  • The Fitzgerald lies in Canadian waters. If you want to fight them over the wreck, you must claim olgebay never gave it up hence the Fitzgerald is under our control

  • What about Brittanic?

  • Wow, that was an really sad video I saw. But I liked the video.

That was really an tragic maritimes video.

  • Edmund american legand, history, and i hate canadians, who think they know everything about it. i live in michigann grew up with that ship.

  • @totaldramailand1 Im Canadian asshole..We dont know everything about it.. it sunk in our juristiction..

  • @NHLHockeyfreak it sunk, in our boarder.....

  • @totaldramailand1 No it didnt. It sunk in the Canadian part of Lake Superior

  • @NHLHockeyfreak We own the lake.......

  • @totaldramailand1 How do you own a lake????? Its on both sides!!

  • @NHLHockeyfreak my state, and coutnry declared thoose lakes ours. Michigan = "The Great lakes state"

  • @totaldramailand1 Oh, so you suppose Lake Ontario is a US Lake? Look at the name FFS. And since the Fitz is in our part of Lake Superior, it is under our juristiction and rules.

BTW Snakes, the SS Kamloops sank in 1927 on December 7th. There are even stories that 7 or 6 men escaped the ship and starved while trying to get help. I also read about a man who is nicknamed whitey who is still in the engine room of the ship to this date, perfectly preserved with the wedding ring still on. Spooky!

  • This one brings back memories. Wonderful video & fab music.

All snakes' videos are so touching, educational, relevant. They make history live, especially for me. You rule, snakes3425 !

Absolutely. You bring these wrecks into sharp focus for all who love the lakes, the seas, and history. Probably into focus too for those who never gave this part of history & life a second thought.

  • Good video, but you forgot the SS Milwaukee, a car ferry lost with all hands in Lake Michigan, Oct. 21, 1929

  • why didn't you include the edmund fitzgerald

  • @swaggastoega

Already used the Fitzgerald in my first Lost Ships Video, it's my policy to never use the same ship twice in my Lost Ships videos

  • boats. on the lakes they are called boats. not ships

  • nice pics

  • Ive seen the damage done to those two life boats the storm washed ashore. It sent an icy feeling down my entire body. Just seeing the steel being pulled back and fucked up just as if it were fuckin tinfoil. And the one that got halved, it tells ya how bad these storms and lakes really are.

  • it makes me what to cry cing ships treat lik that

  • @trainmasterben

Send me a picture of the lego freighter and I can probably think of one

  • Wow,the great storm of 1913 sank a lot of ships and I do know a famous scooher.

  • excellent...haunting tribute. the music is terrific well done

  • well who is singin this song, pretty pretty voice

  • how many ships were lost in the storm of 1913?

  • @geversonsr Hi there. I just watched the one in the Video Responses (above) and they said there were 19 ships destroyed and more than 250 people killed. They have a list of the lost ships in the description. Peace.

  • 0:52, looks exactly like the fitzgerald

  • Awesome...great tribute to all those lost sailors.

  • there rly arent the biggest fresh water bodies cuz africas 1st lakes i the worlds lakes are huge there home to the milloins of speceis of fresh water fish

  • 0:47 i have an autograph of the only survivor on a hat of the daniel j morrell

  • Crap..... I WAS BORN IN NOVEMBER

  • Bulk freighter bulk freighter bulk freighter bulk freighter bulk freighter AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing video.I love ships.

  • In fact if you tally up the number of ships lost since sailing began on the Lakes, you'll find more than 10,000 ships have been lost on them. A number rivaling the North Atlantic Ocean.

  • Great video.

Many of these ships are simular in appearance and maybe design. The waves get big enough to leave a section in the middle unsupported, hence these heavily loaded ships break in two. This is the best theory I've heard of.

  • @whistlelips Especially since they are loaded with twice their own weight at times....makes sense

  • A testament to the power of Great Lakes storms......look at how many ships went down with all hands or had very few survivors.

  • Very moving tribute to those lost on the lakes. RIP.

  • thank you for the great lakes tribute we've lost many ships in these great lakes

  • The song is lovely and perfect for this -- about living with the loss of a loved one to the deeps. Thanks for this respectful tribute.

  • Good video! People don't realize how deadly the Great Lakes ( I would know since I live in Michigan which is surrounded by all 5 of the Great Lakes) are and how many lives were lost in shipwrecks

  • Are all the Great Lake ships 'flat-bottomed?'

  • The great lakes are a dangerous place. My uncle does the lake superior jump all the time. He says hes seen storms that cant be mimic'd even in the salt water oceans. Rouge waves that can eat a carrier alive....These sailors have balls of steel.

  • there r over 2000 wrecks i think

  • I never realized so many ships went down in the Great Lakes. I was only aware of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

  • What about the Lady Elgin disaster....1860..greatest loss of life on Lakes...

  • The two I recall are the Edmund Fitzgerald, and the Lady Elgin. If you include the Chicago River with the Great Lakes the Eastland would be the worst disaster on them, not the Lady Elgin.

  • Haunting song

    2:09 Very sad

Thank you for posting and educating

  • My father was on the SS EMPEROR that tragic night. He was one of the survivors pulled from the water by the coast guard. He was barely alive when they did.He tells me that the captain was drunk all the time.

  • @nstemberger,

Are you talking about 1975 being the last major sinking on the Great Lakes? A rogue wave also got the MS Munchen in 1978, but that was on the ocean. And a couple of cruise liners have been hit by them recently. They took out the bridge and disabled the ship for a few minutes before they got back on track.

Those things are scary, scary scary.

  • The historical marker for the storm of 1913 is located in Port Sanilac , Michigan on Lake Huron, and very chilling to read .

  • The historic marker for the storm of 1913 is located in Port Sanilac on Lake Huron, it is chilling to read it.

  • my respects for the lost souls of the great storm of 1913

  • Good grief I never heard of the great storm of November 1913 until now :(

My love to ALL those lost to the water

  • This is a great tribute for all of the lost souls on the Great Lakes. It was also done in very good taste. May they all rest in peace.

  • Well done :)

I've always loved that photoof the Daniel J Morrell

  • Very tastefully done, May they rest in piece.

  • @ 0:48

god i would hate to be that one survivor lol

    but thats just me :P

  • snake........Great post. Thanks!

  • Speaking of Big Fitz why was she left out in this vid?

  • I'd already used the Fitzgerald in a previous Lost Ships video, namely Lost Ships I. I try not to use ships that appeared in a previous lost ships video twice

  • isnt it ironic that all freghter ships broke in half

  • Man a lot of ships sank in 1913. . .

    AMX

  • that is because of "the great storm of 1913"

  • ive seen a ship capsize on lake michigan

  • hard workin great lake folk laid it on the line every day to provide for their familys. may they rest in peace. by the way beautiful vid mayne

  • what about the edmond fitzgerld

  • I didn't forget, I already used the Fitzgerald in my Lost Ships I video

  • good god. 2:09

    =(

  • the no survivers make me cry

  • God bless them all

  • The November Witch always wins .

  • This is pretty mindblowing. Those ships aren't exactly little cabin cruisers either.

I wonder how well one of those Alaskan crab boats or an Iceland fishing boat would fare in these storms.

  • @RMBmike

Those little crab boats are pretty darn tough to be able to go through what the Berring Sea tosses at them.

  • A November Witch can be as powerful as a major Hurricane.

  • And snakes, given that the Great Lakes are fairly shallow like the North Sea, those waves can bet BIG!

  • Actually their depths vary, ranging from 210 feet (Erie) to 1,332 ft (Superior) the North Sea is actually 2,300 feet deep

  • Ha, that proves my point even more. The shallower the body of water, usually the more tumultuous it can become. IMO, that lends itself to more rogue waves...which has been speculated as what got the Edmund.

  • @RMBmike

Very true. The wave energy goes up in shallower water. A large ground swell you are riding comfortably on the ocean tends to become a ship wrecker as it reaches the shallows off a land mass.

  • @snakes3425 who is the singer in this video, very pretty voice, it's kinda familiar but I can't place it

  • @goldwingdwarrior

    Candice Night

  • @RMBmike They wouldn't. AT ALL. Ala Perfect storm sinking scene... The last major sinking was 1975, but with all the new technology now, you'd have to screw up PRETTY bad in order to sink, or it'd have to be THE MOST PERFECT storm.

  • Wow.. great tribute. Sure were a lot of ships lost in the Great Storm of 1913.

  • I read in my Great lakes shipwreck book, The survivor of the Morrel said that him and a couple other were in a lifeboat, and after the Morrel broke in half, they said it was a disturbing site when they saw the stern half of the Morrel still"steaming away"

  • Comment removed

  • I saw a life vest from the Bradley

  • Was a crew menber that got left by Sundew.joined search the next day on 30 ft boat from gull island.recovered 5 that day god bless them all. Sam malott sundew 58-60 68-70

  • I have always put all my thoughts into the edmund fitzgerald and the arthur anderson. I never realized how many lives were lost in the great lakes until now>

  • i have met the suviver of the carl d bradly

  • Cool video, just one thing, it's Wisconsin not "Wisconson" : )

  • The Morrell was long past her prime, at the time of her loss, she was 60 years old, and should've been retired.

Ironically the Morrell's sister ship, the SS Edward Y. Townsed, sank while being towed to the scrap yard, and now lies in the same area as the RMS Titanic

  • I got to meet the only survivor on the Morrell, his name was Dennis Hale

  • I live in Michigan and visit Lake Huron alot. Now every time I do I will remember all of those people who have lost their lives.

    R.I.P. ---<--@

  • Magnificent video - well done!!

  • the musics quite touching with this vid well done!

  • this does not say where these great ships sunk

  • Comment removed

  • i think People still dont know wat cause the edmund to sink In lake superior( at least tats what i think

  • Nice Video! I noticed a lot of the ships have the same basic design as the Edmund Fitzgerald.

  • God bless the souls of the sailor. "Semper Par"

  • what happens to the dead body's are they decomposed

  • lionattacksa; They say Lake Superior never gives up her dead. The lake is so deep and the water so cold that they sink and never float to the top.

  • good vid!!!

  • even sader

  • i prefer sleeping sun

  • Very Good! Ever hear that the Same Storm that caused the Morrel to sink caused its sister ship the Edward Y. Townsend to have a crack in its hull which would later cause it to sink in tow to Europe!

  • Wonderful video! What is the name of the song and artist? Does anyone know?

  • Spirit of the Sea by Blackmore's Night

  • Thanks a lot!! It's a beautuful song and it fits perfectly with the video! Again, excellent job.

  • impressive video mate, nice work, as always

  • Very nicely done.

  • no edmund fitzgerald?

  • I didn't forget, I've already used the Fitzgerald in my first Lost Ships video

  • great Vid!

  • sorry for the late reply yet another great video.

  • Well don't we have the same timing...A few days ago,I ran across a few websites about Ghost ships! And here you go and post this a few days later. Kinda freaky!!

The sites I went to had a few of these ships. I read about the Emperor too.

As always, great video! I'm glad you included the Christmas tree ship. And I love the picture you showed of it. I absolutely love old ships with massive sails.

Thanks for another great video :-D

  • @AlwaysWishing1983

the christmas trees she was carrying are still inside the wreck there's an urban legend that there was no christmas in Chicago during 1912 due to the storm that sank the Simmons there's a theory that the Christmas Trees helped doom the schooner, she had as many as 5000 trees on board at the time of her loss, which was more then she was designed for and the combined weight of the trees, ice from the storm was too much for the 44 year old ship to stand, and she sank bow first

  • Great Video! It's impressive the number of ships lost during the great storm of 1913!!!!!

  • 71 Ships suffered some kind of damage during the storm. Out of the 19 ships that actually sank during the storm, 12 were lost with all hands.

  • There's a story about the Emperor, apparently some divers encountered the ghost of a crew member while exploring the wreck

  • The same could almost be said for the Kamloops. Divers who have ventured into her engine room reportedly encountered an apparition nicknamed "Grandpa" or "Whitey" on account of it's ghostly white appearance. IMO, it's probably an urban legend.
