This is a great performance. To all the critics of this performer: "Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." Abraham Lincoln.WTF RU?
its nice. it would be better if it's not too dragging, especially on 2:29. maybe a little bit of accelerando. at 2:55 it should be sung maestoso with the same speed as 2:29. do the same to other similar passages. Mabuhay!
this mother fucker classic1306 how good are you to sing this song better than this guy who did a very good job, you know are idiot, stupid mother fucker , go fuck yourself please ok, you should not call yourself classic you call asshole, bastard many more.
i understand that my knowledge is inadequate, which is why in the future, i plan on educating myself better. i welcome any constructive suggestions anyone has to offer me, but you have no right to insult my work with words like "hate," "shameful," "disgrace," and "lazy."
Hi Allan! We're so glad to read your remarks here. That one guy must be so inlove with you that he had to get your attention in any way. It's just so sad. Just to let you know that I'm admirer and keep up with your music! I study music with Minda Azarcon here in the Bay Area. Dr. Azarcon composed soutracks for Lino Broca movies and also composed an entire Zarsuela--"Palasyo ni Valentin." Her daughter is Cecil Azarcon, a famous pop song composer in the Philippines. She lives here in Vallejo too.
You have talent indeed. However I hear your voice coming mostly from the throat and not deeper down from your Hoo Hoo. So this is not Bel Canto singing. My opinion is if you like this tone quality your voice would fit well with broadway songs and popular standards. Go for it and find the right songs for you where you are most comfortable with. Just and observation from Ms Buencamino in Ca.
Alan, BRAVO 4 this beautiful singing. You are very talented & your diction is perfect. There's also a tremendous DRAMA & passion in ur voice. Your voice timber is natural & rare. However, Inasmuch as I love your singing, you are not singing the song properly. Youre using your entire throat and that's NOT good for it will destroy your beautiful timber. You must support your voice to protect it; otherwise you will not last long. Listen to Ms. Buencamino; shes right you got to use your diaphragm.
when i worked on this performance, i was the only filipino voice major, and 1 of 2 music majors in the entire university. no filipino professors and no one to help me in any way with my project on kundiman. i only had a few months to prepare this, but i didn't let that stop me from performing it because my intent was to bring awareness to the community of my own heritage, NOT to present a completely authentic representation kundiman.
classic1306, you have no idea who i am, what i stand for, what kind of preparation i've had, or what my intentions were for posting this video. i posted this video to share with my friends and family who weren't able to make it to my recital, not to show off to the world how well i sing kundiman. i don't know much about kundiman, and i don't even speak any filipino languages. that's not because i don't want to or haven't tried. there are no resources where i live.
A lot of the remarks left here are insults disguised as constructive criticism, and I find that rather unsettling. These comments could be really helpful, but telling someone their performance is shameful, and that they're a disgrace to the filipino race is taking it too far, and is in no way encouraging to people who take it upon themselves to learn music that isn't normally heard in our community.
too lazy! western singing not filipino. good voice. yet no line. chappy! more improvement. learn to sing kundiman in a kundiman way not like a children learning a new song. you have a good pianist but the tempo is too slow...
classic1306, darling-- Why don't you post your video and we'll see what you're talking about? Either Alan performed sorely or otherwise, I'm truly glad to see Kundiman here. Honestly, ecouragement from bitter people like you would be much more preffered. Aren't Filipinos 'westernized' from the beginning of time (Spanish, Americans, etc..)? And, what exactly is Filipino singing? God. Have some appreciation.
well, if youre bias with him, you will surely appreciate his lazy interpretation of this wonderful kundiman. for me, its too slow, it lacks passion from inside, it feels like he just want to stop at the middle of this song.. i dont know who to blame, the pianist, the prof or him.. if he was masterclassed my dear, the he surely will not sing this kundiman in this largo tempo.. you get what i mean? huh?
my dear if you just feel the music of this song musically, you know that it shouldnt be like this.. first and foremost, the txt says, nasaan ka irog, nasaan ka irog at natitiis mong akoy mangulila, by that line alone, it shows grief but not hopelessness which his tempo employ here!
It's not a matter of being biased--that's just a lame excuse. Clearly, this gentleman technique is quite premature for this art song and looking for someone to blame for this natural inperfection is just retarted. In other words, let him be. No bashing required.
I thinks you are dreaming. This is good singing: beautiful voice, good diction, artisitic phrasing. What largo are you talking about? This a beautiful soothing rendition; pianist is also excellent.
have masters first or maybe ask your teacher how to sing this kundiman in the natural and with great musicality.. i hate your performance, i know everyone also hates it including you..
hey you!!! its so shameful to post your video here in youtube where the whole world will see your awful performance.. is this how you were thought by your prof? where is the feelings? where is the legato? where is the filipino emotion.. i feel like your a chinese or a japanese who sings a kundiman.. damn, you disgrace the filipino race in terms of classical singing.. although you have a good voice but the musicality is really lacking.
Most filipino repertoires place Filipino songs at the end of their programme. You might be quite tired singing this one but I can't seem to find that "Kundiman Emotion".

Hijo, ikaw ba'y napaibig na? Napakaganda ng boses mo, nguni't tila nagkulang ng kaunting peelings. Baka ika'y matapunan ng isang baldeng tubig. Pero sa totoo lang, you did a great job. If you're below 21, you're really good. This is not from bdbaritone but from another baritone.
