@manifestgtr Yeah definitely, Suicmez (that's right) is awesome forgot about him somehow. Technical death metal, the genre specifically, is technical and fast, but it's not for speeds sake (at least most of time); it's actually very progressive, theory driven, and dependent upon good song writing. I can see what you mean when it comes to other sub genres and even some tech bands, as a lot of bands are really shitty and ridiculous. But, as far as the genre goes, there is way more good than bad i
go listen to The Tell tale heart by Christian Muenzner, or Septuagint, Orbital Elements, or A Transcendental Serenade by Obscura... school thyself please. Also, listen to the solo in Living Sin by Aeon, or Slaughter of the Soul by At the Gates.
the death metal comment was the end of the video for me. Christian Muenzner would run circles around almost anybody out there with speed and soul; that's a joke.
go die trollers!, and i have a question, im just pickin up sweeping and im wondering where you come up with these shapes, im lost could u help me out, thanks
Hey man, what would you recomend for just practicing getting started sweep picking? When I'm writing solos, I can just hear it, and I know it would sound good in a part of a solo, but I just can't apply it. I've sat for hours just trying to learn, and I can go through the arpeggio, but I can't help put "Pick" as fast as I can instead of "sweeping".
Dude your fucking ridiculous! (in a very good way) thanks for this lesson
good to see someone sweeping on a les paul gives me hope on getting my sweeps haha. Everyones always telling me how much harder it is to sweep on a les paul witch will be my first guitar I've been practicing on my damn acoustic for bout a year using my cousins les paul every once in a while I will have my own soon tho anyways thanks again! btw fuck those trolls!
Another thing is, the way I look at being able to express my emotions to the fullest is by increasing my skill and technique in whatever instrument I'm playing. I'm fairly decent at guitar now, so I'm able almost express feel through guitar exactly the way I want to. Can't say I'm able to do the same on drums though.
I always thought arpeggios were never about speed, but more about having a steady or tight enough hand to be able to pull them off properly. Probably the most creative sweeping I've heard were in jazz/metal type songs and one that really stood out wasn't really all that fast. 08:57 of the "guitars suck" video is actually the one I'm referring to, if you want to check it out.
thanks bro...I've been really busy and I actually need to get a new usb cable for my camera but I am gonna start up again...it's just a matter of getting my act together haha
hahaha dude Ive been playing extreme forms of metal for a very long time....and I've been playing extreme forms of metal in metal clubs for well over a decade...so I dunno if I've exactly "attacked" death metal in the way that you so aggressively took it....but anyway go fist yourself! (in the nicest way possible)....people need to stop fucking taking my goofs on metal so goddamn seriously...chances are I take music and metal in general far more seriously than all you youtube trollers combined
for the record, corpse and necrophagist are 2 of my favorite acts...as you can tell, i don't put up with yt trolls...I dig and respect and about 50% of the comments I've seen here...the other 50% are probably either too lazy to even try and make a video or they just come on here to bash peoples efforts...or they think that people will agree with all of there meritless opinions...either way I believe you fall into the later category so your negativity laced opnions are not welcome here
haha awesome lesson your sweeps are superb!!! and i agree with your opinions! and i do weird stuff with my mouth and face when i play too! and im not trying to spam you in promise but i have an improv and a demo vid could you gimmie tips on my playing after watching them it would help alot your a great guitarist and you outlook on the instrument is great! i will value your opinion
haha thanks man...I'll check out your stuff...and don't worry, it's all networkin...that's the only way to really get yourself out there...I pretty much watch whatever people on here ask me to...every once in awhile, you run into something really jaw-dropping...I'll hit you up after I take a look at some of your stuff
hey man....I definitely agree and thanks for the kind words....as far as death and grind go, I love it...I've been listening to corpse, necrophagist and sfu for over a decade...you have to respect guys that do that every night...it's so athletic and complex...and although you'd have to be a fool to say that any form of music is devoid of soul, I wouldn't exactly compare any death metal group to earth wind and fire haha
great job dude, youre an awesome sweeper...but really...in death metal its not purely speed, this is something youll only understand if you listen to it. It's like 50% speed and the rest is feeling and stuff. (i am ofcourse talking about only a few bands, because there are lots of bands out there who are only playing for the speed)
yeah man...I guess I forgot that I had my guitfiddle in Eb...I usually refer to the note the fret represents rather than the transposed tuning....but at any rate thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you're getting something out of my efforts
cont. IMO.. that's all I really meant.

Your generalisation of death metal using speed is not welcome. Want an example? Atheist. However I agree with your view on Dragonforce.
