@MeezDre was wondering if u cud help me sort out something-correct me if i'm wrong pls:)..with regards to the respiratory cycle, my understanding is that inspiration:expiration is 1/3: 2/3 respectively yes? whereas with regards to 'vesicular breath sounds' themselves.. they are a soft, low pitched sound where the inspiratory SOUND is longer and louder than the expiratory SOUND- n there's no pause in between (unlike bronchial- much like listening over the trachea)? is this ur understanding too?
The absolute best way to remember how bronchial breathe sounds sound, is to remember how "darth vader" breathes!! Trust me, you'll never forget it now!!
thanks for that very useful. im trying to find out the different conditions you hear vescicular sounds in and whether these differ? wonderig if you can guide me? thanks again very useful
i see. thanks for the reply. im a bit confused; i tought a mass in the lung would show as reduced sounds? rather than a more coarse sound? but i geuss you would hear bronchial breathing if the mass was in a bronhi and reduced if it was on the lung parenchyma?
you do get reduced breath sounds with masses. but masses can also cause bronchial breathing by secondary pneumonia. basically bronchial breathing is pathognomonic for consolidation.which is caused by pneumonia. hope that clears it up a bit for you.
thanks! this video helpsss :D

Bronchial sound : short inspiration long expiration
Vesicular sound : long inspiration short expiration

@gheblack
sorry, in my opinion, this is wrong.
Vesicular BS - long inspiration and short expiration. And there is no gap betw inspiration and expiration.
Bronchial BS - long inspiration and long expiration. And there is a gap betw inspiration and expiration.
Just for your reference. :)

@peisze621
With all due respect, may I correct both of you?
vesicular: inspiration is 2.5 times LONGER than expiratory phase. a 5:2 ratio.
brochial (tubular): louder than vesicular sounds, SHORT INSPIRATORY and LONG EXPIRATORY phase, a 1:2 ratio.

vesicular is normal breathing....bronchial is normal when auscultating the trachea but if heard elsewhere can be a sign of a mass in the lung...
just did this today in clinical skills!
