I am also a Hungarian, and i was born in 1993,four years after the system change(so im now 17).Because all those little changes were happened very slowly year by year, day by day so we dont even recognised the small changes because there wasnt high-contrast,so we get to used to those new things.I can claim there is HUGE difference.Im using laptop, ipod, dig.camera, xbox etc.I have been in 13 countries,my family has 2 cars (relativly new).. without system change my life would be totally different...
I think there will be another cycle with a massive pressure point of change, in social values and economic values within the next few months/2 years. And we will have even more liberty and freedom then we do now. Every new generation is more individualistic then the proceeding generation. we are naturally evolving into lighter and lighter forms of control/government. I bet in 20 years I will see a video "20th anniversary of freedom from global Corporatism and the elite class"
The best video I've ever seen. It makes me proud of being Hungarian so much. Best moment in the video: opening borders... Professional work, wonderful music. We just have to remember and look ahead..

This video is beautiful! THE FALL OF BERLIN WALL STARTED A BETTER LIFE IN OUR EUROPE ... but COLLAPSE OF POLISH WALL SHOWED THE POSSIBILITY OF MAKING THAT. GAVE A SPARK which became the fire in Berlin. The largest blood our fathers shed. That can't be ignored. Therefore disappionted Poles gave those comments to that "20 years of liberty - long version" which contains only 6 Polish secons as an additional part of the revolution. Thanks for the memory anyway.
polish people are forgoten heroes right now, we fight for all these fuckin years for all europe JUNE 1956 , DECEMBER 1970 AND 1981 , even war is over in 1945 real polish army fights with russian and bastard from Ukraine to 1963

Dear Europeans and all people whole around the world, I would like to express that I am extremely and deeply happy that now I can live in free country, in free Poland which was not given nor to my parents neither to my grandparents.

Born in 1979. Lived 10 years behind the Iron Curtain, behind the Wall. Was 10 when the democratical change came. I still remember, that everyone was so excited in 1989.
And now maybe the life is not the easiest in my homeland, Hungary. But I guess, we have a lot of opportunities, we just have to know the way to take them instead of complaining about everything. That' s all.
This video is touching me, makes me remember my childhood, makes me cry, makes me happy.
@ktabanyi, it made me cry, too. Born in Romania in 1976, was 13 when 1100 died in Romania so I can be free and enjoy the world. What some people don't understand is that freedom means that you have to decide for yourself, not seek a government (others) to decide for you. Not easy for many who weren't prepared/educated for a life in freedom. But there is no greater joy than be free!
I am so glad to be Irish, really i am... from the bottom of my heart! I, at least had a voice in the VERY LAST democratic decision of all europeans that could change anything. I, at least had the chance to give the middle finger to Brussels. I'm incredibly ashamed of my fellow country men. But im also ashamed of the rest of europe... has 50+ years of peace made us forget how to fight for ourselves? We all sit and watch what so many died for... being been taken away from us, EU will wage WAR!!!
you should be ashamed of your lack of knowledge and not of your fellow country men...the irish have finally decided to stay in europe and not to isolate themselves from the rest of europe which would have weakened their country...the time of single national states is pretty much over in europe just get over it and move on with time. and europe won't wage any war at all jesus christ
Congratulations Eastern Europe, you've now traded in one dictatorship for another. EUSSR will rule Europe by brute-force for a hundred years and leave the continent in a state of economically and socially bankruptcy, ruin, bloodshed and civil war.
What to you call Eastern Europe? The Wall is still here, in the minds of people like you. You live on a mental island and this drive to isolation will bring you misery some day.
This is a good video in an idealistic sort of way, but here in Romania at least 90% of the political class is either former communists, former Securitate members or collaborators. Life is still hard in Romania, no infrastructure is being built, we are still plagued with corruption on all leveles of society, we do not feel like we live in a true democratic state. Indeed, free travel is the only good thing we have in 20 years of so-called democracy
Guys.. We´re all europeans. We shouldn´t discuss which country should be paid more honor for the achievments in the EU. We are representing an idea. Furthermore we should act like that. We should fight for a better unit!!!!
Yeah, you go fight for your Europe. We'll fight for our Balkans. We're seperate, totally different people with totally different ideas and morals. No place for southern slavs in your "union".
KoZmoOoOo is idiot...His assertion is not true. Now, Hungary is an independent, autonomous country with independent peolples. So a lot of things changed after the revolution..
VChapaev, why do you use computer, internet and other capitalist inventions of the rotten West? Just emigrate to North Korea, Belarus or some other museum of communism and enjoy ubiquitous happiness out there instead of moaning at YouTube.
Tak, tak, przyszło kilku odważnych Niemców zburzyło mur i wszystko samo się posypało, a gdzie Solidarność, strajki w Pradze i na Węgrzech... to nie istotne...
Ja, ja, Deuchland Wounedrebar!!
It looks like everything start in Germany but it`s not truee. Easten Europe was first.
Poland is a fantastic country. I have lived in Poland (from the USA-no Polish background) for many years and I respect the Poles tremendously for their fight for Freedom and their great accomplishments before and since 1989.
This country will all its fantastic achievements is only at the begining of what it will achieve over the next twenty years +.
If you have not been to Poland you are invited!
You will find warm hearted dynamic people with a love of freedom here. A Great People.
A NATION of people (not just a country) that always fights for its ideals.
The Poles are the ones who alway put it on the line to make it happen. PR is not History. Poland is a hero country and History will show this time after time.
Now for the next steps. Poland is only at the very beginning of a tremendous future. How high to go? Up to the Polish People. But they have a lot of support and friendship from around the world.
WHY WESTERN EUROPE SEE THE WORLD ONLY FROM WESTERN WELL KNOWN PERSPECTIVE? I agree - this is the German advert. BUT WITHOUT POLAND< HUNGARY< CZEC<ROMANIA you would not break down the wall...which was of course spectacular and great....IPUTPAPAYATHERE - no one would dare to exagerate - but this spot is just under expectations.
The fall of the Iron Curtain is what is important here. The fall of the Soviet Bloc started with the Poles in August of 1980. Lech Walesa, Solidarity. The Poles did the heavy lifting. John Paul II, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Helmut Kohl, Vaclav Havel and of course Mikhail Gorbachev. The Berlin Wall fell last, after the difficult work was done.
Wow and now another Pole tries to say that Poland actually means anything in the world. Why do we have this stupid tendency to exaggerate so much, I know we played an important role in it all, but stop being this pathetic!
Check the siege of Vienna 1683... Check the allied forces and their commander. Check who broke through turkish forces and who provided inteligence my Hungarian friend :)
to hell wih this united europe crap ..its over rated ...serbia in ukraine are in europe ...but the west is ignoring them in fact ..nato cut a piece of serb teritory .. .that's democracy ..just bullshit ...what about moldova ..the last comunist state ..what has europe done for moldova ? comunism was better for us
I am from Hungary and I agree that real change was started by Poland in the early '80s! But the video shows all the acts and struggles that were done from the 1956 revolution in Hungary just until the change of system by all the countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The fall of the Berlin Wall was certainly not the only thing that changed European history (just think about the cutting of the Iron Wall on Austro-Hungarian border) but definitely a milestone.
szirmaik, I will just add to your revolution 1956, that it started with the example of Poznan Uprisin 1956, where Poles destroyed 35 soviet tanks in street fighting in 2 days. After that Budapest Uprising starded with the word "We will follow the Poles". Your guys did a great job in 1956!
Yes, I have heard about the Poznan precedents of 1956. And in Hungary we also know that after our revolution our Polish (and even some Lithuanian) friends held sympathy demostrations and in Poland they gave blood for our wounded people. We'll be grateful for this forever.
Either start with the birth scene and go on with the thought of young man growing up while changing title for more apropriate or add the whole "process" of overthrowing of comunism with its key points, not just some random acts in the end focusing mainly on Berlin Wall takedown. That hard to do?
Very immature to make such a video on behalf of EU, also disrespectful of Eastern European states which started the liberation movements on their own - Germany was last in it.
Yes, it really did start with Solidaritet. But... it is still in progress, it is not yet over, the wall was a symbol that the spell was broken, but we are still treating the wounded, and a few are still left out in the cold.
I still don't understand why the title of the video features the Berlin Wall while the video is mostly about Eastern countries' struggle to democracy...
I adore this video by the way, but can we have it with an another title maybe...?
To everyone who doesn't understand why we don't like this video - watch it carefully. For the first few seconds it shows Eastern Europe - a dark, sad place full of enslaved people who protest but are unable to do anything. Then, suddenly, Germans tear down the wall and Europe is free again! Thank you Germany! But Berlin Wall is only a symbol. Every communist country worked hard for freedom, so we don't like to be seen as passive victims who had to be 'saved' by the Wonderful Western Europe.
Freedom in Europe has started in Poland, spring 1989 and with elections June 4th, 1989. If this is about the boy that is born Nov 9th (what a coincidence!) the tilte should refer to 19 years of united Germany, not 20 years of free Europe...
That clip is misleading. Protests in Poland in 1988 caused wall falling down a year later, six months after elections in Poland. This clip is not about free Europe, but Germany episod with wall :(
Funny comment, I was just watching a video from Swedish television where our communist party complained about EU becoming the high castle of capitalism.
During the 80's I was a teenager and all this happened around me. In 1989 I got my first job outside Sweden (In Krakow, Poland) but even before that I had been involved in the glasnost campaigns for Russia and campaign for independence of Latvia.
This video brings tears to my eyes, so far we have come and so much more we have left.
I raise a glass for an individual but united Europe - free of political oppression and a democratic voice to all.
What does it mean? It's mostly about German. Why? They kept silence, when east countries were fighting. Unfortunetely, German has generaly influence on this ad, because it is a very rich country. Flag of Solidarity is a real symbol of free Europe. Destroyed Berlin Wall is only a consequence of whole war against ZSRR...
Zachód to jednak hipokryci.
By the way - I was born in 1989, too, and since I have realized the importance of this year in Europe's history, I am very proud of this. I was born 3 months and 2 weeks before the Republic of Hungary was declared and 4 months before the Berlin Wall fell... My mother told me how amazed she was when on 2 May 1989, the Hungarian-Austrian border opened and GDR refugees could arrive with their Trabants to the western side of the wall via Austria (I think you can see this at 0:53).
I don't understand why the title was changed to "1989-2009: The Berlin Wall: Symbol of a divided Europe!" Before it was "20 years of liberty" and this was better in my opinion as the vide is NOT about the building and "protecting" the wall - and killing people who actually wanted to cross it - but the fail of the Communist regime and the struggle of Central and Eastern European countries to build up a new and democratic system, while following the life of a kid born in that revolutionary.
I'm usually very supportive of Poland, but here I just don't get it. The video is about the Berlin Wall, right? It's not supposed to be about Solidarnosc, it's another story, the one about the fall of communism. This video is about division and the Wall is it's symbol. Communism started to fall thanks to the Gdansk movement of workers, but this video is about something else... So stop the whole negative thing.
You say that The Berin Wall is the symbol because You made it to be by making this film. And don't tell me that this movie is not about Poland because I just want You to know that people watching this film are not naive and know the TRUE history. Our fathers were fighting for truth and so we do.4TH JUNE- WYWIEŚ FLAGĘ, !!
To rest of the world Che Gyevara it's nice and cool guy from T-shirts bacuse HE LOOKS NICE and that's why young people want to wear clothes with his face. Nobody want's to know the true story of him.
Because the fall of the Berlin Wall LOOKS NICE AND ARTISTIC we should cover the true and most important part of history. Dou You even know how many people died fighting with communism in Poland and other countries? Pictures of people dying in jails wouldn't match to this film -They are symbols.
Holy shit. Why do you still complain? The Berlin Wall IS the symbol of a divided Europe. It IS the symbol of the Iron Curtain. It is so, and there is nothing you can do about it whether you want it or not.
Is EUTUBE a PRIVATE channel ? Or the official one ? The video is about Europe and Liberty or about German history ? And your description justyfing the use of a Berlin Wall as a symbol, what for ? It's the shittiest propaganda video I've EVER seen in my entire life !
What the F*CK is wrong with you ?! Is EUTUBE a PRIVATE channel ? Or the official one ? The video is about Europe and Liberty or about german history ? And your description justyfing the use of a Berlin Wall as a symbol, what for ? It's the shittiest propaganda video I've EVER seen in my entire life !
Berlin was the symbol of the Cold War, cause it was occupied by American, British, French and Soviet soldiers. Capitalism and Comunism was installed in two different Parts of the same City. It was the first front line of the Cold war!
The Berlin wall diveded the people in both parts of the City. As a GDR citizen you were not allowed to go to the west part. The wall was the Symbol of the Iron Curtain. When the wall was teared down, it was the Symbol of the collapse of totalitarism in Europe!
Instead of fighting over the details, let us recognize and celebrate the significance of the ending of communism. For those of us born behind the Iron Curtain, this entails a special message of freedom!
The Berlin Wall - to the rest of the world - is the symbol of the division of Europe. It's not what ended communism. It's not what started the collapse of communism. It is purely the symbol of a divided Europe! ...
If you want to make movies about Berlin Wall - dont include anything about Poland. Your Berlin Wall is nothing to do with my country. Neither it is Polish Wall, neither I have any interest that piece of brick
What for in film showed Brandenburger Tor? Symbol Anty-Democratic Germany . This is only advertisement of Berlin and Germany as a leader of liberation Eastern Europe (for EU money). It doesn`t truth!
No tak.
there's no point in arguing with a mass product of the wasp, neo-colonial mentality. keep on living in the world of your delusions: yeah, we owe the free europe to brave germans who first attempted to unite it some 60 years ago and then made the soviet block collapse. and glorious brits, whose sacrifice and devotion in promoting freedom is known to many nations around the globe.
I saw few of your videos. Or rather your full of anger comments.
time to stop the hatred
This is a video about the end of devision, which happend because people in many countries thought agains it.
How hard is it to understand that people of Poland do not want to have in it a picture of a communistic face but a symbol which is important for them. Peaceful transformation and a round table.
When you understand that, talk to me about growing up!
This video (and many others of eutube) are so slick, well directed and probably cost lots of money. With just one purpose: show the viewers how good EU is. In my world, this is called propaganda, which is exactly what the communists used to change public opinion.
Polaki! Zrobili wam przysługę i wrzucili kilka ujęć z Solidarnością, a wy jeszcze marudzicie...
Amen
What kind of massage you are sending to those Poles who had the courage to make the first move and risk their lives to fight for liberty when the rest of Europe didnt even think that communism can collapse... hmm?
You should know that A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS, so what will happen if it is a wrong picture... The rest of the world wont know the truth and those people will be forgotten.
I am asking people who are responsible for this video (or should I say a tribute to Germany?) for what reason you make something if you cant make it properly?
Your explanation that The Berlin Wall is purely the symbol of divided Europe - cant be satisfying...
My answer is: Pure logic is the ruin of the spirit.
That kind of thing a child can say but not people who should take history seriously.
Fucked germs. Oh pardon, Germans. When one hand is writing "liberty", then second hand is writing "kill Haider!", "No alternative to the Lisbon Treaty!", "Jean-Marie Le Pen, you fascist!"...
Where is Eastern Germany? ....only this would explain the brandenburger tor...but for all other nations the gate has nothing to do with Liberty. Yes Germany, you are also just 20 years old....! fuck off your cars and machines from our markets.....buy it on your own.
The remarks posted here by the users from Poland are correct. But this video is about 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall that we are going to celebrate this year. Of course we are well aware that everyone played his role in this long process, which is *a process* and not a moment in time. Nonetheless this video is about this year anniversary. Ex. I can celebrate my birthday without my sister being jelous and complaining because it's not hers. Love to both Germany and Poland from Spain
Actually in Germany many people want to have the wall back! Many people from the West and South don't like the Eastgermans, cause a lot of money is going to the East and the unemployment is still like 16 %. Besides many Germans in the East want the Comunism back. Comunist and fascist parties get a lot ov votes. It's like in Poland with the soft fascists from Kacynski.
OK guys its all tied together... without German chancellor Willi Brandts Est Policy, there was no Mikail Gorbatshov, without Mikail Gorbatshov, there was no Solidarnosc or round tables, instead there would have been a Russian invasion in Poland...
So what is the point?
This video is about what moves the people, it's about emotion. Labour unions and Round tables doesn't move people. A divided City and devided famylies who can reunite do!
Dear EU, where is Walesa and the negotiations of the round table??? Where in Poznan Uprising 1956, when Poles burnt down 35 soviet tanks in two days and initiated Budapest Uprising?
When Berlin Wall was falling down, Poland was free for couple of months already...
A clip made by people who never had to fight for anything and didn't care to take a history book. Why bother, when there is a big pay check for making this movie...
Actually, you are all wrong. Liberty and Freedom for Eastern Europe actually begun in 1985, when the Soviets placed Gorbachev in power. His policies of Glasnost and Perestroika brought the Soviet power to its knees, thus loosening their grip on eastern Europe.
To quote Time Magazine .... "Mikhail Gorbachev
By gently pushing open the gates of reform, he unleashed a democratic flood that deluged the Soviet universe and washed away the cold war."
what the hell is this crap???? nThe poles started rebelling against communism in 1981. Before that it was the Potsdam rising as early as the 50's!!! and then the Hungarians and the Czechs you make it sound like if Gorbachov one day got up and said "I am fed up wit communism so i am going to start..."the reason he started Glasnots and Perestroika was because the Russians couldn't keep up the arms race with the West
someone forgot where it all started ?

Can somebody explain to me WHY u thank Europe? U can thank:
1. Mikhail Gorbachev, who refused to use troops in Poland, Hungary, and Germany, even though he was begged by their own governments.
2. USA, that pressed on EU to accept Eastern Europeans into the block.

Truth is that NONE of Western European countries had to go through humiliation of fulfilling some stupid criteria before joining the Union.
Only Easterners need to prove their "Europeanness". It's pathetic.

capitalism is credit card
credit card is you have what is not yours
you dont have 100 procent sure job, some are rich, many are poor, THAT IS YOUR FREEDOM
I mean yes poles where killed, and everything, I respect all of that, but people, there is no future with the capitalsm...
you can speak what you want, you can do what you want if you have a credit card, but you pay for that for the rest of your life...
in comunism its all about the worker, not about the one capitalist...

Against whom?
The greatest threat to the EU is EU itsefl, and in that case you wouldn't have been spared either way.
But the thought is silly if anything.
The EU's 1 purpouse in modern times is merely economic.
Which is why (according to irish) that the Irish voted yes this time around.
Last time their economy was up, now it's down and voila they decie that it would be a nice economic boost.
sevendarkdays 2 years ago 3
you should be ashamed of your lack of knowledge and not of your fellow country men...the irish have finally decided to stay in europe and not to isolate themselves from the rest of europe which would have weakened their country...the time of single national states is pretty much over in europe just get over it and move on with time. and europe won't wage any war at all jesus christ

Poland 1956 - "for bread and work"
Hungary 1956 - council communism in practice
Czechoslovakia 1968 - leftist student's uprinsing
Poland 1981 - yet libertarian socialist worker's union fightings
So it was about "anti-communism" or for real socialism? Think about it.

Every communist country worked hard for freedom, so we don't like to be seen as passive victims who had to be 'saved' by the Wonderful Western Europe.
darkladymiru 2 years ago 6
Freedom in Europe has started in Poland, spring 1989 and with elections June 4th, 1989. If this is about the boy that is born Nov 9th (what a coincidence!) the tilte should refer to 19 years of united Germany, not 20 years of free Europe...
That clip is misleading. Protests in Poland in 1988 caused wall falling down a year later, six months after elections in Poland. This clip is not about free Europe, but Germany episod with wall :(

Communism started to fall thanks to the Gdansk movement of workers, but this video is about something else... So stop the whole negative thing.

This video for Us - Poles is only a stupid joke and taunt.
We started liberate central Europe - not Germans.
Your impudence to crediting someone's contributions is unbelievable my German and European friends.
"Solidarity" - 10 million national dash - only one in Europe, only one in the world - only they had balls to destroy that red, ruskie plague.
You only destroyed the wall.

So if anyone deserves a mention, its Gorbachev.

what the hell is this crap???? nThe poles started rebelling against communism in 1981.
