  • after 11 flops in australia, the Gibb's left on a boat back home to england the day Barry's 'spicks and specks' hit #1 in australia (what luck) in 1967. so this was their first of a very long string of hits - bee gees 4ever! thnx for posting ~ kc

  • first song so old

  • catchy song, thumbs up if you agree!

  • still had australian accents here

  • Why is robin jumping around the stage? I wish Robin was singing instead even though the guy singing here is really good. Robin in my opinion is the best!!! :)

  • @TheDellanator the guy singing???? he's not just the guy singing.. he is THE guy singing and also he is Barry Gib!

  • I think as he got older his voice got even better than it already was!

  • wow

  • How did I manage to go 44 years without hearing this fantastic song?

  • @badgerbozier

I'm 47 and in the same boat :)

    Just love it!

  • @badgerbozier I, too, just found out about this song at the age of 41!!! Great song.

  • This is the Little One's (age 5) and my favourite Spicks and Specks performance from the Bee Gees. Barry is so happy and energetic we can't help but dance and sing along!

  • The Bee Gees rock in any era

  • Wierd thing about this song is that the tune is happy and upbeat but the lyrics are the opposite.

  • 2 notes = all you needfor a awesome song

  • Its funny you never hear them mentioned when it comes to "60's Music" like other legends.

  • hands up if you hear this every wednesday :)

  • This was there first hit if i am correct i am I? in australia correct me if i am wrong lol

  • I never tire of this beautiful, simple song. Barry 's voice and style make it amazing!

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeear <3 x3

  • I love this song!!!! is simple but great!!!

  • 7 persons don't have life! (thumbs up)

  • this song is redundant and simple....their songs got better as the 60s progressed.

  • my fav BEE GEES era - there 60s music was amazing :)

  • Mo whit one finger aan the piano, great song from The Bee Gees !!

  • so simple so GREAT

  • actually hacking the intro into the piano. grnad!

  • I love "Spicks and Specks". It's simple, but it's great.

  • Back when you actually had to be able to sing to be a singer.. haha

  • Opfer

  • @Graffstuff Lass uns unnsere Musik und wir lassen dir dein Hip-Hop (nehm ich mal an).

  • great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • man I heard that they were around 17 when they wrote that

  • the masters!

  • mmm that was music ... and it even was before I was born ...

great, I need a playback now XD

  • The best song of the Bee Gees

  • Wow, Wow, Wow, this song is really takes me back to my time, wonderful !!!

  • I love the song. Bee Gees - great.

    Many thanks for the video.

  • I love this song and I think it's great, but the word "spicks" within it always makes me a little uncomfortable. I realize that what it means within this song has nothing to do with its other racist meaning, but I'm still always a little hesistant to say that word when I sing this song to myself. I wonder if they were worried that it would be misinterpreted when they were recording this song.

  • @stitchesful

i doubt they knew the meaning you refer to when they recorded it in the '60s, though perhaps they did. i am puerto rican and am not the least bit offended by the use here - nor does it make me uncomfortable in any way. the whole p.c. thing is killing our society & making it exceedingly difficult to simply communicate. do you feel uncomfortable using the word "cracker"? i hope not, but it's a derogatory way some to refer to caucasians! we need to get over ourselves. rule 62

  • @TheMC1215 I agree with your point about the whole p.c. thing and it making it hard for us to communicate. Still, people have become so sensitive that you can so easily say the wrong thing on accident and maybe get yourself killed. I don't agree with people being that hypersensitive, but because they are, that's why I get very nervous using any term that could be considered racist. Yes, we do need to get over ourselves, but I doubt we will any time soon.

  • Real talent sounds much better live and unaided by electronics. 'cn Billiant!

  • Brill!!

  • What a Beatles' audience reaction. Love the song!

  • amazing song

    however, i lol'd at 1:23

  • Thumbs up if this is the best song eva!!!

  • @manutdarechampions One of the best. They did so many memorable songs.

  • Fabulous! I especially appreciate Barry's sweet hot pants action. Thank you!

  • That's really great!

  • Grerat, 5* from Hamburg !

  • I wish I had seen this video when I was in high school in the 60s, although nothing would have been better than being there live! Long live the Bee Gees!!!

  • This is the first BeeGee's song I ever heard when I was young and it's definetely the best. Simply that key note in the beginning makes you recognize the song, even if there's nothing played except that note.

But one thing I don't understand: What exactly does the name of the song mean?

"Spick" is after all a rassistic word, even though I think it's spelled "Spics".....well whatever, who can tell me the meaning?

  • @Allroundmoviemaker spick and speck is jargon for very clean. so my guess is that spicks and specks are the bits you need to clean to make something spick and speck.

in other words spicks and specks are little bits. in this sense little bits of his memories of life left over in his mind.

    i hope that helps.

  • @stupidnamenoonecares Sounds good to me. Thanks for the explanation :)

  • @stupidnamenoonecares spicks and specks does mean the little bits, like specks of dust, but i believe the phrase you're thinking of for very clean is "spick and span," and the 'spick' in that has to do with nails, not bits of anything.

  • This is EASILY my most loved Bee Gees song !

  • This song made them famous back in 1966 its absoletly beautiful and a good song to dance too.5*

  • Una vez la escuché en misa hace tiempo, claro que decía con otra letra y en español : "Danos la paz......" jajajaja

  • Comment removed

  • @angel22896343

Ironic, considering the subject of the song.

  • @ridethelapras

thanks for your advice!and we have broken up last month...

  • Fantástico.

  • This song shows off the power of Barry's voice. I will FOREVER love this song, just for that....besides his trying to coax the audience into joining in...too bad the audience hated them....LOL (joking, folks...don't attack me)

  • their work post 70s is brilliant also beautifull balads. on still waters , one , esp ,size isnt everything and also this is where i came in all brilliant

  • Ehey.. I love this song.

  • Lol robin he's not doing much but he has the best voice

  • @m3rcinaries Robin is my fav. I agree! :)

  • Robin looks as if he's auditioning for 'Confessions of a Trainee Accountant'.

  • @Widmerpool99

Yes, but back then even musicians knew how to dress professionally. Doesn't fit now but it was respected back in the day.

  • For me (by Bee Gees) - the BEST song EVER!! I LOVE it!!!

  • Prb my fave ever song. Should be the Australian National Anthem one day. Btw do NOT watch the Australian Spicks & Specks TV show, only good at making the music business in to a legal spectator sport.

  • That doesnt even mean anything ya knob head!! Clearly its a negative jab...some of the most talented names in Aus miusic have been on that show...cant be too bad!

  • I was referring to Men At WOrk. They turned their opinion in to a court case. That's Spicks & Specks for you. It should celebrate music, not turn it in to intellectual diareah.

  • @ilsy74 It's very unlikely Men at Work 'accidently' used the kookaburra riff, it would have been homage to Australian life at the time, along with other references such as Vegemite. You should also know that the current copyright holder for the Kookaburra song seeking retribution, is not the original copyright holder and never represented the original artist.

  • @rovemcanus If you understand and have an appreciation of how the Creative Process works, then you will know that there is no other way. Artists rip everything from everyone... John Lennon said the same thing! For example, the stranger at the 7-11 store, a dictum they had read, or an accidental uttering.

  • @ilsy74 Spicks and Specks is a good show and shouldn't be held responsible. Many people never realised the connection between Downunder and Kookaburra, and infact on that episode of Spicks that question went unanswered.

  • Dedicada a mi querida amiga Verena de Alemania. Espero estés bien.

  • This song shot the B.G's to international fame.

  • Hardly. ;)

It shot them to fame in Australia, but at that point, they were already in a boat to England. Due to this, the success of this song meant nothing. It wasn't released until years afterwards outside Australia

  • Love the start, it's great to bonk to.

  • i just love the three of them together with their younger brother, andy.......... GOD BLESS THEM!!!!!

  • Such a funny tragedy song!!

    I love it so much.

  • greatest from poland .

    i can't stop listen it.<33

  • @aitstoskate = das ist Robin

  • best song!

  • The video response is of me showing how to play this on piano.

  • ito ang pinakapiburit ng mama ko ..............kasu lng patay na siya

  • If you like this song: Marlous Oosting - Jij alleen jij!!!!!!

  • lol wer ist der Typ der immer so gschwürig klatschend über die Bühne rennt? x D

  • Awesome, proper Bee Gees, ie before the shrill 70s stuff!

  • Well this was filmed in the '70s...

  • @01782644468 And what a historic venue - good old Festival Hall!

  • Barry keeps repeating the "where are the girls I left far behind" from 50 onwards.... Count'em....5 repeats

  • 2:02 did he check the lyrics??

    Awsome song though

  • Robin was so happy !

  • Hi Quiggsy!

  • Pachelbel's Canon in D major!

  • It is a beautiful song, it's brings pleasing recollections of my first love (Sorry mi english's very bad...)

  • Your english is fine man

  • Around the mid 60's saw the Bee Gees's Sandy Shaw, PJ Probey, Billy Thorpe and the Aztec's, Denise Dysdale and more at the Shepparton Civic Centre, she was full on, you couldn't get much better!

  • me encanta ver los videos de años de inicio de bee gees por fin bailaron los hnos gibb felicidades

  • Molly Meldrum was involved with the production and recording of spicks and specks which was the launching pad for The Brothers Gibb. Shame that Molly did'nt cling onto them long enough. He would'nt be wearing that silly hat and he could of had a decent hair transplant. I just love this song.

My son and his mates did this for a school concert and it bought the house down.

  • Great song !

    Thanks again !

  • LOVE This song!

  • ..god those are some tight pants...

He must have had fingers of steel playing the piano like that, really banging away.

  • Brilliant performance! I love how Barry and Robin are moving around on stage all the time here!

  • I love the older videos .

    Thanks again !

  • Where is the sun.?

  • Wow - Barry's dancing! And Robin actually jollying the crowd along instead of just standing there like he did in later performances.

  • I agree! the only time I've ever seen Barry dance during a song is during his single " Fine line "

Reminds me alot of Andy :)

  • wow i like robin's attitude...

  • love this one, and the live performance is so amazing!

  • thank you : ) love this song my do it in the concert at school ...Broken hill Australia
