there is an added cut, if you go south from the springs to the screen with four exits, 2 in to the west, one to the south and one to the northeast, go northeast and to the top of the path on the second screen you get to you should just be able to make out the glimmer of the added cut materia. the next screen takes you back to the hot springs.

there is also a ribbon in the first cave of the actual cliffs that isn't mentioned in the game guide

It doesn't make you better at the game. Any idiot can waste time leveling up, and training that much early in the game only makes it much easier and takes the challenge and fun out of the rest of the game.

At the Great Glacier.

From the signpost entrance go Right 2 screens, take Upper Right fork, go Right 4 screens, go straight ahead to the upper right of the screen, go Left 1 more screen, the Added Cut materia is lying on the path in the snow.
