Not to take away from the performance, it is really incredible, but the light conditions are similar to what my High School band practices in. Around 8:30 pm it is about that dark and we are doing run-throughs of the show.
@SHOTiRiGHTi 1. This was about 9:30 and pitch black, yes you see city lights in the background, but there was nothing behind the front sideline after the stadium. 2. This was a performance 3. This was the first performance of the year. 4. This is not high school band 5. If your high school band is practicing in complete darkness on purpose, it wasting it's time, putting its members at risk, has poor time management and probably not very good.
@a53mp I understand your points completely. But, that is not what I was saying at all. The field we practice on does not have lights, and when the practice is almost over, it is dark. We do not deliberately practice in the dark. The point I was trying to make was, that if a high school band can complete their show in the dark, a drum corps should not have a problem, considering that they have years more of experience and practice considerably more.
@VerySnowy no.. we pretty much couldn't see much the entire time. The only time it really adjust was once the power came back on, not long after the show was finished... but yes, your eyes do adjust however we were half way through the show when the lights were out.. there was only a couple minutes left, not really time to adjust.
DCI field performances are copy-righted material and has been that way for decades...It's usually enforced at the beginnings of shows...even back in 1999 :)
I was there. I remember being able to see the moonlight reflected off the brass horns and the silver sequin on the uniforms. That was all you could see.
I would have loved to hear the judges tapes to this

7:15 - the greatest part of DCI history. You can't really hear it here, but it is Godly.

Their eyes could adjust after a couple mins or so. But still, Very, VERY impressive. Good job men!

One word... RESPECT. This is amazing. They've must have had a lot of confidence finishing in the dark.

@betaomega04 A lot of people had camcorders back then at shows.. if it was illegal I never heard of it being enforced
