the original - to my ears - has much more clarity, almost a mid scoop .. giving a good seperation of highs and lows that work well to give the wah its depth. The v2 sounds almost nasal in comparison. Though - if Johnny switched it up on us at a live show, i doubt anyone would notice so.. meh
@arex82 Well John couldn't have done that while with the Peppers cause V2 came out in October 2009. And to me I don't even really hear the difference.
I had a WH10 and I was running out of gas on the ride home from a gig so I traded it for $5 of gas. :( I remember it being a wha pedal, plastic, not that big a deal. I remember back at the time that they were considered no big deal, Cry babys' were the wha you would want. these were plastic and cheap. I had no idea that they had turned into anything that someone would consider a)vintage and b) worth paying more than 100$ for. That said, I wish I had mine.
Ok. So I bought the wh10v2. I plugged it in and was playing with it, and it sounded like my guitar's tone knob was rolled off,, whether the pedal was on or not. So I went to guitar center, told them what was wrong, and traded it in for another one.
Same problem. They just have HORRIBLE bypass. The WORST. I usually don't notice or care about these things, but it was literally unusable. Maybe it was just the way it reacted to my set up, but I suggest you guys stay away. Anyone else?
@popomczowzow yep this happened to me also in the shop i tried it in, but i just couldnt help buy buy it :P by the way im on my third wh10v2 first 2 broke. but now ibanez remade the switch on the latest batch! :D its great now!
Some of the parts may have been discontinued that were used in the vintage model. The thing to remember is that when re issuing a pedal they really never sound like the original. while they come close there is always a subtle difference between the 2. This is why the vintage stuff has the allure it does.
They sound different because the original one has aged, you can't effienctly compare the 2. Aging changes the parts inside of the pedal, use and abuse too.
You must take the age of the original WH-10 into account when comparing the pedals... Why does everyone forget about this
10 thumps up to that man! people pay hundreds of bucks for a 60s fuzzface in order to sound as hendrix, the thing is that nowadays, a 60s fuzzface sounds really diferent to what it sounded nearly 50 years ago... a reissue with the same exact components will sound pretty much similar
I think the newer one is better, the vintage one has a louder pot, newer one has smoother sweep. The vintage one is a cooler artefact though because it looks older
is the WH10v2 great for high gain?

Hi man... let me ask you something:
How it fells the new WH10v2? I mean, it is like the old one?
A friend of mine said that it breaks easily (the internal part). Is that true?
Thanks!

In this demo, the new ones sound alike.

and the old version sounds better.. especially you can hear it with overdrive.

Why would the pedals sound different if they have the same circuit
vizcacha5 2 years ago 4
@vizcacha5 Because some parts might not be in production anymore (pots, capacitors..)

The re-issue is a little darker. I still like the way the reissue sounds though. Would you recomend buying it?

I agree, the vintage one does sound a bit fatter. Thanks for posting this!!!

I can't tell very well by the video, but does the reissue still have the volume boost when the depth is up high?

oops didn't mean to do that whole double post thing
do you prefer either one?

I prefer the vintage one.

I thought so, but they're both great.
What's your favorite wah? (sorry about the endless onslaught of questions, last one, I promise haha)

That's a tough question!!:)

wh10 has more high end and is still fatter. both great though
what do you think vintagegeardemos?
popomczowzow 2 years ago 2
I agree the vintage has more quack to it and more high end. Seems the re-issue is darker sounding and a little bit more synthy.

Sounds pretty much identical to my ears.
Is the reissue PCB the same awkward shape as the original?
