I have the 2TB version of this hard drive from 1,5 year ago and in the last months i experienced several problems with the USB conexion, and even on my new laptop i just cant acces to my data...im trying to buy a USB 3.0 to eSata adapter to transfer and save my files before i send this to the repair on the store i buyed...i have a guarranty untill 2015 so i have time...but can somebody tell me if i can somehow transfer the files, since the USB port is the only afected part?
Are you sure that the cover is aluminum or just plastic? I was ready to buy one of this FreeAgents in Mexico City but im afraid that it was counterfit, the one i saw is plastic and the box is just cardboard, not the Seagate box that im watching in this video, damn pirats...!!!
got the same model n been having it for about 2 months n when i turn it on its just making noise n it won't go on.any one have a solution for this problem?
i really want it to work because i got alot important data on my external.i regret buying this external n yes it does not work on 64 bit
the drive does work on 64-bit. Their software might not, but as long as it is formatted properly it should work without a problem. I know mine does. I still have had no issues with mine. You should call Seagate and they should be able to help you out.
Seagate has admitted they had an issue with firmware...They have since repaired it. Also...it works fine with 64 bit. Just format it for your operating system. I dont use the hard drive software from Seagate. I have it formatted in HFS for the Mac.
Well it's not working with 64 bit. Go to seagate forums and you can read what people say there. And my drive just dead is not a software or firmware issue, is a hardware issue and can happen in Macs too. Good Luck with yours
oh man, I think I got to you too late. I just got the same drive last friday and it died on me on sunday. Really unrealiable HDD for many other people too, don't put anything too important in it, and get ready for it to die on you for no reason..
I bought a Western Digital 1TB instead and it ROCKS. Everything works smoothly and so far it lasted 3 weeks... it doesn't look like it's going to stop soon either unlike the 23 hour Seagate one XD
You can just copy over files. The software is on the drive if you want that too. If you plan to use with a Mac, you are probably going to want to format it to hfs prior to using. Otherwise you can use it as an extra drive with no problem.

seagate don't cover data lost.
they charge too much $ for data recovery.
this is the worst external EVER!
freestylelover 2 years ago
I think you will find that no company covers data loss. They will cover the hard drive, but that is it. I don't know of any company that does.

I bought one and last 43 days. Seagate is the worst brand ever and they do not care about you losing your data.
DO NOT BUY THAT THING. You'll lost your data.
And DO NOT works with 64 bits.

I was wondering do you have to install the software or can you just start saving selected files to the drive without the backup software? Thanx
