this cover is ONLY that - a cover, although it is rather god it doesn't even come close to comparison with the original - God Bless one of the best R&R band of all-time, Mott the Hoople!...
Traci is playing a Hendrix kinda vibe with lots of unision bends ,the neck pickup, tone down and wah thing, kinda lazy sounding solo compared to shenkers pentonic stuff. I love hendrix's guitar playing but it really doesnt help your hard rock or metal chops.
REALITYCHURCH, where do you find such good drugs? Saying Tracii has more tricks than Schenker is HILARIOUS! I didn't realize "tricks" are what make good guitar playing. I'm going to go check out David Copperfield now! I guess John Mayer is a lot more skilled than Uli too, huh?"
It's like Schenker is playing through a Marshall stack and Traci Gunns is playing through a practice amp. The solo at the end kills Traci's. No comparison.
Schenker TOTALLY takes that cat to school hard!!!! Hahahahha,,,Tone, execution, feeling, ability, the whole fkn package....not even comparable. I could take Tracii to school (even if I haven't sold any records).....
I bet you don't play guitar @ all. Traci has a much more ecclectic bag of tricks. Schenker borders on ALWAYS sounding the same! Both are great, but Traci is better!
well, I do play guitar, and all I can say in your defense is that perhaps I am biased as Schenker is one of my favorites. HOWEVER, read the other comments friend: "the proof is in the puddin"
I apologize then for the "you don't play" portion of my comment. All respect. They are both favorites for me, but I see too many great guitarists to name/know. This isn't about puddin, or even amature public opinion (wich seems about even). It's about 1 guitarist staying in his safe, well rehearsed and (for some) overplayed zone. While another pushes his sound, boundries, and is constantly expanding his bag of tricks/phrases.
its like Dairylee Versus Mature Cheddar - same product but worlds apart. Nescafe Vs Jamaican Blue. Pan Rustique Vs Mothers Pride Sliced White Loaf. A wank versus a Blow Job...
ur high. u play? I think not. Or you would realize traci has a much larger phrasebag. Schenker is great.... but he always sounds the same. Traci's leads are ever changing just in this video! Listen to Schenker play the same style on every1 of his lines. Great, but safely within only 1 style and sound. Salute to both.
Yea I saw Schenker's leads. Mostly minor pentatonic, and natural minor scales. Big deal whaa.... Traci's are more ecclectic. Subjective I'm sure! But Anyway ... I didn't realize that the leads in this cool song were all the total accumulation of both thier careers. If you knew UFO AND LA GUNS, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP ETC..Then we might agree. Traci could lay down MANY more leads than M,S, B4 they started sounding the same! Traci has more in his gigbag. But I will Agree 2 enjoy them both
Because I've heard the tone that Guns is getting from a lot of different guys on a lot of different records. It's a nice Stratty sound but not uncommon. I've not heard anybody else get a tone like Schenker's. As far as I'm concerned, MS is the Gold Standard for great tone. No disrespect to anyone else, there are plenty of great tones out there but MS is the top one for my ears.
Schenker-tone, taste, and technique wrapped up in one extraordinarily melodic package. He's one of the VERY few guitarists that can hit me both on a cerebral and emotional level. His soloing on this reminds me a bit of his approach on "Feels Like a Good Thing" from his first MSG release. Beyond stellar.
Too bad they never got a chance to do something great. The curse of SHARK ISLAND - They should have been a huge band - Richard Black was an awesome singer.................................
Ha ha ha! I know what you mean man. When I first discovered YOuTube, I was a kid out of control again. This was one of those tunes you say HOLY SHIT...there it is!
The solo on this song by Michael Schenker is timeless and proves is and always was in a class by himself
