I saw the film 'Please give' at the weekend and realised that the intro song was by the Roches. I love them too. especially Hammond Song and Quitting Time, but I really like this one too...!
@leolon2 and @toptico It's at the beginning of a movie called "Please Give" with Katherine Keener and Amanda Peet...This song plays along with video of women getting mammograms...HEE HEE

I found this on a sampler CD and fell in love with The Roches right off. As great as this version is, the version from Krempf (youtube) called "No Shoes by Paranoid Larry, Arranged by The Roches" is SOOOO awesome. Check it out. These ladies are wonderful singers and hilarious at the same time.
I've been listening to them since 1991. And though I'm no authority on music, I think that some of their songs are more beautiful than any other music available on or off the market. I've never detected the 'witchy' factor.
Your personal approval of them as individuals or human beings is not required. Or maybe you are a journalist, Rick, and you are compelled to pull them apart.
The Roches are great, and even if they do have arguements amoung them, that is typical sister stuff when you dont preform toegether let alone when you do. And now a days most don't know of them because the generation sucks with what they think good music is.
Just listen to their music. If you have a comment to make about that then make it, otherwise let them insist on hard cookies. And if they want to argue, scream and shout, so what. They are incredible artists.

I saw them in Austin and would have enjoyed them. Unfortunately, I had friends who helped with the show and saw them out of public view. If anything was not just right (including soft instead of hard cookies backstage) they unleashed screaming, filthy harangues on the promoter. Then they screamed at each other. I noticed that during the show, they never spoke a word to each other while acting so sweet. The "I have no heart" line in this video is clearly on target.
And this is a criticism? They're sisters, of course they fuck with one another! Their attitude is what has always made the Roches greater than their peers.
Hate to pop your bubble, but look at their calendar. They used to fill concert halls, now they are barely getting gigs on the Unitarian Church circuit. They are angry, venomouns, washed up and, I expect, tragically trapped with no other marketable skills. You should maintain your delusion about them; they need the help.
Actually, all 3 are very comfortably off (nice houses etc) and play for the love of it. Met, chatted, seen them many times, but never at a Unitarian Church strangely? And are they really 'venomouns'? Oh dear... I hear there's cream for that.
I'm sure a little cream would help whatever ails ya, Nellie.
All joking aside. I know your type. There were about 100 of you at their big show that had about 103 people. Most were loudly singing every word out of key...oblivious to the fact that NO ONE who wanted to could hear the only talent in the house...the women on stage. My friends, who I talked into going, had to tell some idiot behind us to shut up several times. Yes, the Roches foster star worship in their few remaining fans.
They are clearly talented and have snowed their fans. This also is common in music. I would have said nothing if the distance between their peace/love/ain't life beautiful songs and the reality of their witch-like personalities didn't make them absolute frauds.
Though fraud does bother me, I have to have some compassion. These women hate each other; I cannot imagine how bad it would hurt to despise one's siblings.
i think the roches are great, and concerning their personalities, if you look at 90% of celebs nowadays, they're all total pricks.
and i know a load of people who would jump at the chance to see the roches, all of them wouldn't even know who they are, but after hearing their music ("no shoes" in particular) they immediately fall in love with them :D
Thanks for the post! I love these sisters.... had the pleasure of hearing them perform this song in San Diego last December. They're as brilliant now as they were when I saw them for the first time in the 1980s.
booooooooooooooooooooooring

@symewinston Yes, you are *incredibly* boring! The Roches, on the other hand, are incredibly good and I thank the poster for putting this up!!

I came here after watching Please Give... awesome song. I'm wondering what kind of reaction it would get if I sung this in a hospital.

What's with your sourpuss attitude?
Jealous or something? Huh?
I think they're great.
Who cares if they might scream if they don't get their hard cookies?
What did you expect, I mean really?
That they're some sort of saints?

No, just decent human beings. Is that too much to ask of them.
