This is the commoon motiff of the poor boy marrying the rich girl because she pitties him and wants to brin ghim "up" in the world, but instead the poo rboy ends up bringing her down because he doesn't want her to have all that she has without him. Thi sis repeated throughout literature and life.
Why cant Shelby just think for her damn self. When it comes to love your not suppose to let others influence your decision based on race, income or etc. Its all about whats in your heart. But Shelby is too immature to realize that, she needs to follow her own sisters example. Meade in my opinion is to good for her. He refuses to let prejudice and financial desicions judge his feelings for Shelby, he loves her plain and simple. WTF is wrong with her, GROW UP and think for yourself.

Mead or whatever his name is...is way too good for her. He is surrounded by black people, think about how he feels left out - but nooooo Shelby has to complain like a little kid constantly.
