Thanks so much for making these videos. They are really easy to understand. Now I'm going to try making some of these recipes and see if I can land myself a husband! :)
@starfishey1001 i don't think it can be cooked with an oven. if you don't have a steamer, you can just put the container with the batter on a stand in the Chinese wok/ large sauce pan when the water is boiled. but make sure that the water doesn't touch the container. :) this is how my mom steam the food...
@girlymoomoo888 No the evapoarted milk is not sweet, you may be thinking of sweetened condensed milk - this is not the one that is used in this recipe. I only used the plain evaporated milk :)
Hi, I have long been looking for this recipe for I love this steamed 'sponge' cake. However, it is not easy to find evaporated milk here where I live. Could we substitute it with condensed milk and leave out the sugar? Tks! :)
i love this cake its so delicious!! lila dou you know how to make cookie egg rolls? there so yummy! i tried some of the wing wah brand cookie rolls and there so yummy but id love to know if you know how to make them!?? or they might be called biscuit rools im not too sure!! thanks!
I actually don't have a recipe for these. I'm thinking they may be similar to piroulines. I do have a link to a recipe for those which I'll send you through youtube mail :)
i love your videos. i dont know about everybody else but for me i would like it if you showed how the stiff eggs looked like. i mean.. i see it but it would be nice if you showed me the texture of it with a spoon or whisk. also when you were stirring in the shortening with the oil, i wanted to see how it looked like when you were finished. these questions were probably asked already but can you bake it? will the texture of the cake be any different? why do you steam it rather than bake it?
This is just a traditional recipe in which the cake is steamed. I have baked it as well, but I left out the shortening and oil. It comes out a little spongier, but it seemed to be missing something. I definitly liked it better steamed :)

Instead of shortening, can we use butter/margarine?
linlovesyou1 3 months ago
@linlovesyou1 Actually lard would be the best substitute for the shortening in this recipe :)
AsianCookingmadeEasy 3 months ago
But the cake doesn't seem to rise?
eagleyige 4 months ago
I just tried this.
Instead of 3 TBSP of shortening, I changed it to 2 more TBSP of vegetable oil, so in total I put 5 TBSP of vegetable.
My 5 years old nephew love it!!!
Thank u for sharing. Appreciate.

What do you mean by SHORTENING?
jawad384 1 year ago
@jawad384 Here I used Crisco Vegetable shortening which is a solid form of vegetable oil. For this recipe you can use lard instead :)
AsianCookingmadeEasy 1 year ago

Evaporated milk is canned milk, similar to sweetened condensed milk, but without the added sugar :)

ericwongjh 1 year ago
@ericwongjh That would probably work for the texture, however the flavor will be a little different since the brown sugar adds to it :)
