I have it on vinyl as well, John Peel got me hooked on it by constantly playing it on his show. It was his favourite album. Unfortunately when I uploaded it I didn't have my USB turntable back then, so this is from an (unremastered !) CD. The sound quality is pretty good anyway, and I don't want to lose 38,000 "views" by re-uploading it !
this IS the best LIVE performance I have ever heard.....I am now 48 years old and Ii have NEVER heard a better live band in my life...I had a new toy..Sony Walkman..Circa 1980 (nobody else had one) I used to walk (or FLOAT) for MILES ..listening to this album .. I will listen to this to the day I die ..THE MOST INSPERATIONAL LIVE MUSIC EVER MADE..LOVE U MISTY..ROOTS CONTROLLER!!!
I bought a Walkman in 1981. 4 x AA batteries it took, and it ate them in about 2 hours.
I saw Misty In Roots in Aberdeen in 1982. They had ditched the brilliant organ for a brass section. It was still a great gig though. Despite some other good music, nothing beats "Live At The Counter Eurovision 79" ! John Peel's favourite album, and it was him who got me so hooked I just had to buy it. I've still got it on vinyl, but didn't have a USB turntable when I uploaded this clip from CD.
@roddy76to86 You are so favoured. Thank you for posting. Interesting what you said earlier about them not playing in the UK due to NF. Did you ever hear their song "Do you remember Stephen Lawrence". Yet another piece of brilliance
No, I don't remember that song. So I'll have to search for it !
The other thing that I think "Misty In Roots" got a "kick" out of by playing in Scotland was that they were playing to a virtually complete white audience, who were jiving away to their music, and not caring a damn that they were a black band.
@roddy76to86 Sorry please accept my apology. I now see I put UK. Please understand as a Hungarian we tend to think of UK or GB meaning England and Skot and Wales being separate. We get confused by this thing very often
That's quite all right, and thank you for the apology. The constitutional status of Scotland within the UK is confusing !
Scotland has its own Parliament in Edinburgh for most internal Scottish matters, and the UK Parliament in London for foreign policy, defence, etc. And of course it's the UK that is represented at the United Nations.
i think i,m in on that statement too... with so many best songs in my mind ...unbelievable, outstandig ROOTS... thanks and praises to the most high (and thx f sharing this)
Yes, it's fantastic. Sadly when I saw them in Aberdeen in 1982 they'd ditched the organ for a brass section, which wasn't nearly as good. It was still a brilliant gig though.
Fecks sake mate. Think I must have seen them in the Glasgow Barrowland same tour. Bought weed off one of their roadies which blew me and my fellow 17 year old Glasgow mates into 2009 and back at same time ! Happy daze
fucking made my day . . .me and my mate asked them if we could get on their guest list coz we weren't students and couldn't get in, we carried speakers and they were so nice to us ,gave us records, bought us food and drinks and gave us a big cigarette.the loveliest folk EVER, vegetarians with bibles in pockets and 'can You get me a drambui? but dont tell the rest of the band . .' ha ha they were all at it and big Clarence Baker the manager was maybe the coolest guy I ever met
When I saw them at Aberdeen, it wasn't at the students union so was open to anyone, and was packed out. And not a not a black face in sight, which I think they got a big kick out of, with all these white folk jamming...rather badly !! I seem to remember the only part of the UK they would tour then was Scotland, because of all that NF nonsense further south. Anyway, as you say, a great bunch of guys, and it was a brilliant gig, despite the blue fug, no doubt due to those "big cigarettes" !!
have this one on vynil...still awesome

Of coures it is ! But lyrics and songs don't alway mix very well. And I dont' mean this song.
Try "Under The Floorboards" by "Magazine". How the heck Howard Devoto managed to mix that music with those lyrics is a mystery...after 30 years.

John Peel used to often play reggae at about 11.30pm on his show. It worked for me every time; I used to go out like a light.

@roddy76to86 The song is called "cover up"
shuffleknuckle5 1 year ago
On my 1980 vinyl LP of "Live At The Counter Euorovision 1979", it distinctly says this song is called "See Them Ah Come".
roddy76to86 1 year ago
@roddy76to86 I meant the other song I referred to about Stephen lawrence. It is called Cover Up. I was listening to it today

Well I think I mentioned somewhere I had to get nearer the front to see them because of the thick blue fug !
roddy76to86 2 years ago
At that point they would only tour Scotland because of all that National Front nonsense down in England.
