It happens when an underground or semi-underground band has caught the attention of the media, goes mainstream and soon after their music progressivly goes to shit for whatever reason. I seen it happen time and time again to bands like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Korn, Lacuna Coil, Metallica, Lamb of God, Nightwish, Rammstein, and so on. This usually happens 95% of the time I notice. Their music goes to shit. It happened to Dimmu on their 5th album.
